I can’t believe Avast has the worst recency bias takes for these lists. Belittling Guxue’s career and pretending he was a Winston 1 trick is pretty much the only way you don’t have him in the top 10 and he should be ahead of Gaga.

Never ever did it say it was an all time list of greatness. Avast from the start said he like to rank his players more like a “best of all time” list. I think it's ridiculous to diminish a tanks performance because they were pocketed by incredible players (reinforce talking about Miro and ryujheung, Bumper and Twilight). EVERY tank on this list had an amazing backline. You simply can't shine on main tank without good support. That's part of why these lists are dominated by Shanghai and Shock because every player on the team helped elevate each individuals performance.

except in the case of Mano lol. as a perpetually disappointed NYXL fan I was crying for the healers to pocket Mano instead of JJonak, esp during GOATS meta. I'm certain it would've taken them farther than they got. he was cursed by bad supports, or rather, bad heal-prioritzation, in his career.

Well I'd argue Fate didn't have a great back line on Florida. Like Kris is not the best main support but he did up his game. Ganginjin of course is great. But with Kris I'd say it was a "decent" back line back then. And I'd argue the same with a few others. Where maybe they'd have 1 great support and 1 just like "okay" support. Which may be why some never achieved championship aspirations compared to the ones who did.

Plus he's one of the only main tanks to play on 3 teams, with multiple different staff and coaches, and different teammates. And he's stayed great on all of them. Anywhere he's gone he's lead teams to success of some sort at least. I'm not sure any other main tank has done that on 3 different OWL teams. Fissure is the closest. But his last season was so short. Do you rate higher Fate's ability to play at a high level from S1 to S4, playing the best tank in the final season? Do you appreciate Fearless' amazing carries in S3 and S4 as a solo main tank? Super or Smurf for the incredible double championship, being arguably the best players on their specialised roles, whilst also having a deep hero pool? Either way, really difficult list. Before watching this I had: 1 - Fate, 2 - Super, 3 - Fearless After hearing some of the arguments Sideshow made about Fate I can see why having him at 1 might not be justified, he and Shanghai had the Hammond strategies down this year with not much competition once they realised that Dallas couldn't match them in that regard and their Winston comp was just worse against them. Apart from that I don't remember much of Fate except the fact he was there either doing okay or had people doubting him. And I forgot about Smurf being so damn good becuase when you think of SF Shock, you instantly think of Super, his marketability as a player, his vocal, egotistical personality/persona and how he was considered the bigger deal as a main tank while Smurf was quietly the more well rounded tank player in terms of flexibility. After reevaluating, Smurf should've come in Number 2 or 3 along with Fate honestly. It's weird how you can quantify the main tank role, you can be the absolute carry but without a strong team behind you to follow into the abyss and support you as best as they can you could be an absolute feeder and the Shanghai Dragons this year as a team were elite, arguably the best OW1 team of all time. But Shock won the damn thing twice with an elite squad as well and I think after so long of other teams improving, the game itself changing and the Shock losing their talent I don't think either tank could've clutched a third title this year given the competition they were up against. Do you rate the accomplishments on the back of a god squad or the flexibility of the player to be able to adapt to any situation and support your team by doing so?

Ball hadn't been a serious hero really until this season when SHD made it good(minus some triple DPS stuff and Shock on control maps last year in playoffs). Although I do agree fate was extremely necessary for the dragons dominance towards the end of the year, I think it's a bit of a stretch to put him over super in a top ten overall MT in OV1 ( referencing some of the comments I see ). Aside from the back2back championships which he was relatively influential in, he was also a big reason why the shock made it so far and did so well this past season. It's a very difficult list because of how central yet unique role main tank is, but I agree with much of it. If I were to give my own ranking I think it would be this: 10 - Ga9a/Miro: I'm not much into the lore of APAC contenders, but I'm willing to accept the fact that Ga9a was crucial in reinventing the scene, and working as a much needed upgrade for Chengdu's core. However, since his career was so tail-end of OW1, you could make the same argument for Miro being here, even though his career was very front-end. Miro in his prime was incredible, and back-to-back Apex wins is no small feat keeping in mind it was considered at the time to be the OWL before the OWL. Of course, his incredible fall off going into the actual OWL is what puts him this low. 9 - Guxue: I remember when the Primal Blade meme first came out, and I've got to admit, no one else's Winston was getting me as hype as his (in a time before Fearless' prime). Props for him working in such difficult conditions, but I don't think he has the hero pool to compete with some of the other people on here. 8 - Fissure: Fissure is in a very similar situation for me with Guxue, working in difficult conditions(though maybe he did that to himself a bit) and having super flashy plays, I just think his hero pool is better than Guxue's. Wish we got to see more of him. 7 - Sado: Sado in his prime is incredible to watch, and he does have a great hero pool, including what I believe to be one of the better Orisa's of the tanks on this list. Of course, he's lower because of his sloppy 2019, but he still has some great plays to his name. I also think he was one of the better parts of 2021 Defiant, along with Heesu. 6 - Gesture: The top 6 on this list are so hard to rank, but the reason Gesture is this low is that even in his prime, his teams have been inconsistent, and his own consistency shifts around a lot as well. Even still, Gesture has a great hero pool, 2 championships (counting Apex here) and a runner-up. Great all around player. 5 - Fearless: OK HEAR ME OUT. I myself am a Dallas Fuel fan. I am so proud of what Fearless was able to do this past season, and for his amazing comeback going back to last season. He is the best Winston in the world, no question. His Reinhardt is also incredible. But the fact is, his career has been very tail-end as well. We still have much more to see from him hopefully, but as a fuel fan I was hoping he could get us a little farther than just 1 Hawaii victory. He's amazing, but a very condensed example of amazing compared to the longer careers some of the others on this list have had. 4 - Fate: I think much of plat chat had a longevity bias with Fate, being that he was such an OG, but I have to agree with Sideshow here unfortunately. I was so proud of Fate for making the comeback that he did, having the best wrecking ball in the world and spearheading Shanghai's dominance, but that's really the only standout performance he's had. He had early success with Valiant and Immortals, but never incredible success. He is consistent, but not consistently great. I hope we get to see more dominance from him in the future, because he is a very gifted player, but definitely not top 1 caliber. 3 - Smurf: I love Smurf so much, and he's an incredible player. He's the second best Winston in the world, has a great Orisa and Ball, and an underrated Reinhardt to be honest, it's just that super is so much better. He has always been a big part of Shock's success, and I remember being stunned at his performance against Dallas after they had just come off their May Melee victory. The only reason he's under the other top 2 is because of playtime. 2 - Mano: Of all the people who were done dirty by this list, Mano was done the dirtiest. He's another OG that has arguably been more consistently good than Fate, even if his team never got incredible results. I don't think Mano has a bad hero, which is why you never here anyone talking about him being more of a Reinhardt player vs. Winston player. He's just good at everything. He's been on some teams with some bad stretches, but I don't think he was ever a major contributor to that. Even in recent years, he's still been performing very well. I hope we get to see even more of him after his military service. 1 - super: super is such an enigma. As the face of the OWL, you'd think a lot of his praise comes from overhyping from the fans, or that his results are just from him being carried by better players on his team, but no. For as much of a meme he is, he is simply that good. The best Reinhardt in the world, with a great Orisa, Ball, Winston, and Hog. An OG Overwatch player. Consistency. Everything I have talked about and attributed to individuals on this list, super has all of them. The most main tank player to ever main tank. Just remember no caps when you spell the man name.

i actually think he is actually underrated slightly and over talked about, people have been tired of hearing about him and talk like he isnt an extrememly consistent and important player on his team, people say his winston isnt good when you never see it because smurf is there, its not that they had to get someone else its just smurf is so goddamn talented he got the playtime. and when 2021 playoffs rolled around he brought in a strong winston with his trademark leadership with orisa and ball not even being weak aspects of his game, you can complain his ego is large (although he definitely plays it up for the onstage personality) and that you hear about him too much but i think despite strong competition hes the go to pick for main tank

Fragi obviously isn't a top 15 main tank, but I think it s really unfair that he's laughed about. He was a Rein specialist unexpectedly thrust onto Winston after Sado's suspension. And while his 2018 stage 1 was truly just awful, seriously, he did get much MUCH better with time. Stage 2 was already a big leap forward; Philly managed to go 7-3. And by stage 3 he still wasn't a top Winston in the league, but he was definitely serviceable in the role. I feel like he's remembered exclusively for his first stage, new to the league, on a new hero; its unfair.

Too high? He was the backbone of the shock when they won 2 championships, he's the most flexible mt and all of his heroes are top teir and the heroes he plays are always top 3 (I'd go as far to say his rein is number 1 and his hog at least top 2)
@comareborn87342 жыл бұрын
Super is basically the reason Shock has 2 championships, and he an incredible leader. Fate is super consistent, good on everything, excellent at ball, and one of the best leadership figures in the league. He is a great personality with a ton of achievement and accolades. Any of the main four stated in this video (Smurf, Super, Fate, Fearless), could deserve number 1.
@mikedepacina85882 жыл бұрын
Are they forgetting that super only became flexible in the last season? Super was non-existent in season 1. OT Rein in goats (benched in playoffs). Mostly played hog in season 3(most of his playtime being in the playoffs). Season 4 was the only season where showed flexibility, but shock never even went to Hawaii. In contrast, Fate has been consistently playing at the highest levels across all MT heroes(maybe excluding the 2019 season). And sideshow's argument that Fate was unknown before OWL, can be said about super too; in fact, you can argue that Fate was more known than super pre-OWL.

i havent followed super's play that much, and im not saying he's not a great player... but hasnt he basically almost only played rein? maybe his winston, orisa and ball are top-tier, but didnt they usually sub in smurf to play anything not rein? aside from hog i guess, for that brief patch, which i think can be kind of ignored because that meta kinda made things a crap shoot. if it was played for a couple months, then i think that would be a big enough sample size to see who had the best hog, really.

Could be bias, but I think it's criminal Mano is not top 3. How did fearless who went 0-40 in his rookie year place way higher even though their peaks are similar (stage titles and highlight moments) and both have no grand finals appearances despite there level of play, but mano did that for 2 extra seasons. How did Roshan not make number 1? The greatest player in OWL. /s In all seriousness, I agree with these rankings on the whole. A few debatable spots, but not particularly controversial (at least compared to the previous rankings). Even if I don’t agree with the rank, I can at least respect the logic that went into ranking the players. I’m glad players like Gator, Miro, and Gamsu, while not cracking the top 10, still appeared in the later standings. Reiner honestly should have made at least top 20 for his Contenders career (looking forward to seeing him play in S5), which if it wasn’t for his age, he probably would have been signed in S4. And while Hadi and ChangSik were accomplished with British Hurricane and Fusion University, respectively, their OWL S4 performances left much to be desired. Honorable mention to Rio for solid performances in S2-3 with the Charge and for BenBest in S3 with the Eternal, as both took their teams to a tournament title.
