The best part about playing these games on CRT that people tend to not mention is, there is no motion blur on a CRT. So moving objects (which are everything in a shmup for instance) are crystal clear as they move across your screen. Allowing you to see and perceive what's happening much much much clearer and allowing you to react better in turn.

@OM19_MO793 жыл бұрын
Oh, dear. You have no idea how bad this is. You do get blur: worse, you also get distortion related to the luma intensity. Due to the downscalling, you add unnecessary lag twice, once from the process and twice from the field interlacing. And, to make matters worse, you get bad aspect ratios due to overscan and artifacting due to the superior resolution (haven't you ever played Dreamcast or XBOX on a CRT? It hurts the eyes). This is so dumb, you are like those audiophiles that claim that records are superior than digital.

For anyone out there just wanting to play new consoles on a CRT and don't care about scanlines, the Extron VSC 500 and VSC 700 is a great RGB/Component alternative. It only outputs 480i, but that signal still looks great on a CRT, and it has the same horizontal and vertical adjustments. It can even convert RGB to component and component to RGB. EDIT: So I didn't realize that these also SHOT UP in price over the last year. 6 months ago they were all under $100. Now on ebay they're all over $200... However, I've gotta say, S-video is absolutely gorgeous. I remember my first time going from playing Melee on a composite LCD to S-video on a CRT. My room mates and I were in shock. We IMMEDIATELY noticed how much SHARPER everything was, and how there was NO input lag at all.

I have probably owned 30 crts over the past 9 years. Including several pvms and bvms. Virtually all of the usa, consumer trinitrons made after 1999 accept rgb through their component. All you need is a cheap transcoder. No input lag, no video quality lost. I have a video on it. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3i5k519lNmNmac Virtually all sony pvms and bvms are curved on the x axis. However there are many flat-screen consumer grade trinitrons and these are what I would recommend for tate. That is what I use for my tate setup. The larger screen will improve your gameplay and it is really fun. I used to use a 36 inch crt but I am currently using a 27 inch. I miss the 36. The horizontal/vertical position and size can be adjusted on trinitrons by entering their service mode. Go to the time stamp in this video for entering the service menu. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIa7npJ4o7uFiJo However you have to be careful adjusting the vertical position. It can warp the image. The intro was hilarious.

LOL! Mark you had me fooled, the thumbail even got me. Once I heard your voice I thought "is Mark featured in this an episode of MLiG?" and then it got silly hahaha. I agree that S-Video is over looked these days, and it still has alot of merit. I used it primarily for quite a few years in my setups and its lightyears ahead of composite and RF. But I will say that most decent consumer CRT's after the mid-90's started supporting Component video, which is essentially equivalent to RGB. These sets can still be found fairly cheap, and not only do they have better I/O, they are also usually better built, and when you get into higher end sets they will have way more lines of resolution than what you are currently using, which will greatly improve the picture. Look for TV's made in the early 2000's by Sony (Trinitron) or one of my personal favourites the JVC D-Series. Most CRTs, including PVMs and arcade monitors have a curved front glass. But the curvature is far more pronounced in older sets. Great esoteric video as usual my dude.

No offense to you or anyone else who does this, but I personally don't understand wanting to play or watch HD content on a CRT. In my opinion, I like to keep things how they were originally intended. So GameCube era and below on CRTs and anything newer on LCD TVs, as was intended when designing those consoles.

That s-video converter: before you shit on a product, rtfm. You’re complaining about dull colors while feeding it less than a third of the color signal level it can handle. Learn gain structure and educate yourself before you criticise something designed by and for people who know what they’re doing.
