OPR is awesome. The fundamental basic rules are explained in two (and a half) sentences. 1. Move 6 inches and shoot or 12 inches which can be into melee. 2. To attack roll on your quality. The defender then rolls hits to his defence and takes wounds for each fail. Everything else is a variation of that. Simple, yet with the different abilities and army compositions still leaves room to be deep. Can be played solo or coop. Use whatever models you have. Combine your dream army of whatever you like best. In two words: HAVE FUN! I love it.

@@sillecnomak2309 Simple but strong rules will always beat complex rules that are complex for complexity's sake, or only exist to correct core faults in a system. If I can teach a mate to play in 10 minutes, go through a game in an hour, and have a good time, that is a superior system to one where a similar level enjoyment is achieved with a game that takes 3+ hours to complete and a couple of days or play-throughs to understand completely.

So I introduced OPR's Age of Fantasy Skirmish to two different groups, one was a veteran, old school group who still play Mordheim and WH Fantasy 6th Edition and the other one was a newer group that only fairly plays 40k 10th Edition from time to time. Both groups got instantly hooked to the system and, while I agree it may lack the rules complexity of old school skirmish or wargames, its fast pace and great accessibility make it very attractive. I think it's a perfect entry point for beginners, specially young children who are sometimes intimidated or lose atention when faced with more complex rulesets.
@ImperialGit4 ай бұрын
Complex rulesets are overrated.
@Mordred864 ай бұрын
@ImperialGit agree, what is the point of complexity when it becomes a battle of just remembering it all. Even professionals playing on KZbin forget rules to 40k and AOS and that is a sign of how bloated it is.
@iannordin52504 ай бұрын
@@ImperialGit Rules should always exist to enhance experience of the game. If rules exist that actively impede enjoyment to add complexity, or if they only exist to make up for a flaw in core design (40k's IGYG system is at fault for a lot of its issues) then they should be eliminated.

The real strength of this rule set in our experience is the epic scale that can be played seamlessly. Think epic 4000 points a side battles that fit into an evening. That is a unique spot in the hobby.

I'm sorry but I don't understand the appeal. The reason I like sigmar/40k etc is all the flavor and differences. There's already plenty of more basic games out there like many mantic ones and that's fine too prefer but why simplify another system. It's like wanting to play chess instead of checkers but rewriting the rules to make it basically play like checkers anyways.
@biobasher5 ай бұрын
The armies have flavour and the complexity of the game comes in a different fashion. Alot of on the fly adaptation as your order of activation is probably a far bigger part of the game than people give credit for.
