Omg, before I started watching your videos I would play sims 4 in a “success focused” style, getting every sim to the top of their career and having every sim ace university, probably because of my own anxieties. Now I love watching sims fail… it creates so much more drama!! Who doesn’t love a good aspiration failure?

IMO not only does the sims need to update their whims system, I personally believe scripted events like in TS2 spin offs would also make the game far more enjoyable

Make your own scripted events then roll a dice to choose one THATS one of my unique special ways of playing the game. Like i told people the other day sims4 is very much like D&D you have to use your imagination to get the best out of this game hehe

Whims based truly is the best way imo. Otherwise all my sims end up being the same and having the same lives where everything is maxed and they reach the top of everything. I'm not the most social person in the world and I don't really understand how humans work that well so I have trouble making diverse personalities that have diverse experiences, they just kind of robotically accomplish things and I end up just being happy if they don't annoy me. But then I get bored after like one generation because doing the same thing over and over isn't fun. Whims forces things to be more interesting and forces diverse personalities I otherwise wouldn't think of.

I also play whims-based and rotationally, and in the BFF household, Travis kept switching whims between Liberty and Summer. Liberty wanted to lock it down, but Summer just wanted a bit of flirtation. And then they both ended up pregnant 😂

Reading these comments, I have to say: Cindy, I've been following you for a year and a half or so, since a bit before the Batuu debacle. I felt the same negativity towards the Sims 4 and I definitely felt satisfaction watching you rant about it, then you made that video saying you didn't want to be that sort of person anymore so you focused instead on Sims 2 and 3 (and your personal life) for awhile. I just wanted to appreciate how far your channel has come, where your comment section is now full of "You've motivated me to play again and/or play differently and now I'm having much more fun!" Bienchen means small bee 🐝 It's pronounced bien (sounds exactly like bean) - ch(the closest to an English reference is the beginning of the name Cheyenne. Like Sh but without pressing your teeth together) - en is pronounced exactly like it looks. You were pretty close actually when you said the name!

One of the things that causes me to get burnt out playing the sims 4 is how repetitive my gameplay gets. I feel like I’m always grinding the same skills and following the same path as my previous saves. I’m going to give whims based gameplay a try and add some more randomness to my game by using RNG instead of selecting my sims traits and aspirations on my own. Hopefully it will pushme to explore areas of the game that I normally don’t, and also give me the motivation to actually play through several generations. On a side note, something I have found helpful in making gameplay less repetitive is deleting the base game households and using MCCC to generate and populate the town. I use the dresser options to make sure townies actually wear clothing that makes sense and it seems to work quite well.

I think this video gave me a better handle on why I got tired of the Sims 4 much, much earlier than I did with 2 or 3. I tend to look to the game to give me goals, and have that create an unexpected story. The monotony of Whims and the checklist, unvarying nature of many other tasks got dull pretty quickly.

In my game I do the love triangle thing a bit differently with the BFFs. Liberty is gay and has a crush on Summer, Summer is straight and has a crush on Travis, but he has a crush on Liberty. I really love these gameplay advice videos. I think I'm gonna attempt to actually play TS4 again and not just build aimlessly anymore.

I know I'm 2 years too late but you're so right. I tend to micromanage my sims, it worked in the sims 2 and 3. The sims 4 is pretty much a dollhouse, traits and all other features don't matter as much in the end.I realized when things didn't as planned was when I had most fun. I was so confused when I found out that whims were desabled by default. I thought there's something wrong with my game. Even though I didn't have these amazing mods by then, and my sims constantly rolled the stupid 'buy bee box' whim, it just didn't feel right for a Sims game to not have whims.

I ain't gon lie, when this video came up in my feed, I was like, "I ain't gonna watch that, I know how to play whims based...😒," but continuing with honesty, I picked up a few things. Firstly, I didn't know about Bienchen's whim mod. I'm impressed ('😒 EA could never'). I have "More personality please" but since this only really affects conversation and autonomous actions, I'm interested in the personality mod adding aspiration trait rewards and whims. That was a good plug. 👏🏾😃👏🏾😉👏🏾 Then, I usually prefer my sims to succeed, but playing the way you play, especially in regards to dates (etc) will definitely refresh the goaled activities and events. Thanks, Cindy, this will definitely make this game I've been playing 7 years feel like something a little newer. 😘 This is what I thought it would be like when I first started playing. (Again, EA could never... but you found a way.)

I have been playing a generation of eight sims 4 household rotationally +whims based with these mods (and lots of others that I believe add to realism like woohoo wellness, kuttoe's career overhaul, etc lol) for the past couple months and it has completely changed the game for me. I think the reason that people burn out so quickly with the sims is that people don't rotationally and it gets sooo boring just playing one household for their whole life. I went from playing the sims as much as I could for a couple days, a week at the max, and then getting bored for a couple months before starting the cycle again. But since I found your videos and got inspiration from the way you play The Sims 2 and I changed to this type of playstyle, I've been wanting to play much more regularly. Having multiple sims that you are playing at the same time really makes it soo much easier to let them "fail" in life as well imo, because when you only have one legacy household that you play it feels like a lot more pressure for some reason. I never played the Sims 2 or 3, and honestly the graphics are just too rough for me even with overrides. So as a sims 4 only player, I can confidently say I would recommend this playstyle to everyone to at least try, even if they aren't just trying to relive the playstyle of those old games!

I remember when I first found your sims 2 videos, you explained why you love the wants and fear mechanics very similar to the vibes in this video. IT BLEW MY MIND!!! I played a little bit of the sims 3 when I was a lot younger, but I had the most of my sims exposure from the sims 4, so I new nothing other than the “success driven” gameplay style made popular by the biggest sims KZbinrs. This is totally game changing! I already use bienchen’s whim overhaul but the second mod (need to go back and check the name) seems so great! And I need to try wonderful whims. I always played wants based with previous games and always hated that the sims 4 makes it so hard and I have to keep coming up with what to do next to keep it interesting on my own. It’s so tiresome. I've had both these mods ever since you first mentioned them but I've never really focused on playing whims based. Yet again, you've inspired me to try! Btw, I'm sure you know about Carl's Sims mod that he's working on, but recently he announced the dating rework where it matches with Sims 2 (I think?) style rather than goals. I LOVE that because my problem with goal-based dates is 1) they're the same all the time, and 2) if you tell jokes before the goal pops up they won't count, you have to flirt or 'sit and talk to your date' first. If you want to kiss your date, you need to first both be flirty and tell 3 jokes. I want the freedom to do whatever my Sim wants to on a date, and focus on interacting as a whole. So, that aspect of his mod I think will be a must have for me (and you!) ;D

I have a similar gameplay strategy!!! I love using the whims since I’m not very creative with drama and I like to have things happen somewhat organically. I also use the Whims overhaul and I love using the First Impressions mod and the Wonderful Whims mod because that also helps with storytelling while meeting new sims. And the attraction system from the Wonderful Whims mod really helps with the romantic partner selection. They basically tell you who they’re attracted to.

I have only discovered your channel today. Your method of game play is incredibly interesting. I always play with sims that I make myself. The only time a sim of mine ends up with a townie is if they firt with one. If I have sims that are in relationships that flirt with each other I will actively pursue the relationship between the two people who flirted. I try and watch for these moments. The reason I don't play with townies often is that I only enjoy certain ones. Plus I don't enjoy the way alot of them are dressed and if I do play one I will change their clothes and or hair. Sometimes give them plastic surgery. I have never tried whims because I forget that they are there. I do play different legacy challenge stories. Your organization is impressive. If there are new names for children in my gave I write them down. And who their parents are. I also don't enjoyful how most houses that are just in the game are decorated. I usually find them with boring or too cluttered or aquard so it would not be my choice to just start playing. But I do like the idea of rotation game play. I do that a tiny bit if my family has now had family members move out and start their own family

I've spent years looking for the best play style for me. For a long time, I've played a very specific success focused way, sure to the fact that for several years, my primary save was the 100 baby challenge, so it was *always* about that checklist. Now that I hear you explain this type of play style, in sitting here thinking "how have I never thought of this before?" I play legacy mode with a loosely whims influenced storyline which I create. I have so many mods that help my Sims personality he more in depth and unique and I generally try to form their story around what I think they'd want. I think I'm going to try this hard core whims based play style though because the perfectionist in me tends to so the same thing over and over and over and not allow a heap of failing.

I’ve always played the sims with full control, so I’ve been playing the sims 4 with a semi-whims based play style (I focus on granting a good amount of the whims, but will delete a whim if I feel it doesn’t really fit with the sim). In my play through so far, Travis hooked up another sim, Summer was also interested in Gavin and hooked up with him, and Liberty got really interested in vampire lore and ended up wanting to become a vampire, then hooked up with Caleb lol. It’s been fun so far.

Hey Cindy! If you press 1, 2 or 3 on your keyboard, your game speeds up/slows down. If you press "p" on your keyboard you can pause and unpause the game. This also works in the Sims 3, 2 and 1 :)

I tend to get bored of the normal no storyline game but I also tend to get annoyed when I watch other lets plays where the “drama” has obviously been planned, just seems fake and unbelievable to me. Started a pleasantview and oasis springs rotation. Summer got fired and took up the athlete career, Travis got together with Liberty. Bob and Eliza have adopted two dogs but are having a trial separation. I'm moving on to play the Goths soon!

ok i had a really cool idea! using this method, playing with the scenarios can be more fun as the Sims will take the story to one of the scenario's objectives, making that every time you play a scenario the ending can be different! Or play a challenge like the Legacy challenge and each generation will end up being different from the other. This is a great method to play the game if you are bored with repetitive stories. 🤯✨

im always really hesitant with gameplay mods because of the fact that i play the game in my own language. the reason i do it is, tbh, because theres so few games that actually get a translation - so it feels special. But? from this video, it feels like the personality mod and whims mod wouldnt be that intrusive or take me out of the experiece, even though the new whims would be in english rather than my own language. i maybe would hate it, but it would be worth a try? because i honestly really do like using whims for my sims, i like if they want to get a pet or get married to their partner, stuff like that. i love to be controlling of my sims too but the lil divergences in what they want vs what i want is fun

I didn't know the personality mod changes whims. It's good to know. I like to play using mods about personality traits. I search them in modthesims or website lists but some of them aren't updated. I would like to know which are your favourite ones since there aren't so many funny traits in the game.

You have really open up a new world of fun for me, I have been really HOOKED on playing this way in sims 3! i have played this game since it came out, and sims 4 has been the biggest disappointment ever, but even the sims 4 can be a little (very little but still hahaha) fun with this kind of play style! Thank you so very much for all of your videos, and a extra thank you for stikk giving us so much content for the sims 3 and 2, those games are my life, and you are easily my nr 1 channel ! 😃💟
