I mean, I don't think it would have mattered if they had sacced more lands to bounce more artifacts/enchantments. it would have only slowed it down for a turn, a turn where they virtually had no permanents or lands left to impact his board.

Interesting game! I brewed a Dargo Tormod deck that does about the same. I thought about using Silas instead of Tormod, but he also allows gravecrawler, and has some potential for midrange beats if there's too much stax to win through.

Sorry for the length of this question: Sometimes you guys have a large stack going and the person with the original counter spell receives priority again. This person will have more interaction in their hand, but let the stack fizzle then cast counter magic on the original spell. Why not just add to the stack if you have the interaction? What benefit is there to letting the stack fizzle first?

It depends. Sometimes it’s to make sure a pact resolves so that they have to pay for it. Sometimes it’s literally just easier to understand what’s going on that way.there can be some other reasons

So the 3 treasures sacrificed eternally lower the cost of the giant pirate to 1 red and with alter going off it negates 2 tax, and because giant boy was sacrificed it applies another 2 to the reduction cost? Each time is sacrificed? Is that how the tax negates itself due to both abilities? Or what is my puny brain missing? Each sacrifice reduces by 2 cmc applying to each iteration of tax?

Correct. The new Dargo in the CZ sees the previous Dargo as a separate creature being sacrificed, so the cost to recast him within that turn is 1 red as long as you keep sacrificing him.

Wait... 6:34 Why in the world was mental misstep cast here to counter swords? Does he WANT him to get another 12+ mana? I don't understand that play. Edit: I get now that chain would've fizzed had swords resolved, not allowing him to bounce dance of the dead. That being the case, I still believe letting dockside re-enter his hand is actually worse than elesh norn hitting the board, especially since Dylan was tapped out at that point. 2nd Edit: Yep, following turn he won the game. Definitely should've let that swords resolve, dockside is so much more of a threat than elesh norn is.

Quick question, im not that great with all the rules. At around 10:38 he stated "Every time a permanent is sac'd this turn, he (dargo) cost 2 less to cast, so he negates his own commander tax." Wouldn't sacrificing a creature be an additional cost? Therefore sacrificing him to Phyrexian Altar would not count towards his additional cost? To my understanding he was talking about going infinite on treasure therefore it doesn't matter, but I am asking in order to understand the interaction in case I would like to run Dargo and didn't have the infinite treasure outlet. Thanks in advance.

You don't have to sacrifice additional creatures when casting Drago, you can choose to sacrifice 0 (similar to Torgaar from Dominaria). The difference is that when you cast Dargo, it keeps track of all creatures and artifacts sacrificed that turn. When you sacrifice Drago to Phyrexian Altar to generate a colored mana (R in this case), it gets sent back to the command zone and you have to pay 2 additional tax for it. However, because the new Drago sees the previous Drago being sacrificed, it discounts the casting cost by 2, cancelling out the additional 2 cost. Essentially, for each new copy of Drago, he only has to pay R for it at that point.

1:20 I have a serious question and haven't found a good place to ask it but this is a good timestamp. Should I run teferi's protection in cedh and why? Angel's grace seems better, it's being used her as mox fodder and the times I have it and need it are few. I understand redundancy but is this card simply not as good outside casual?

Plus angel's grace can kill a consult player if they pivot to name a card and it's top 6 or bottom. But I do get what you're saying. The times I need it vs times I have it are few and far.

@@deant01 This ruling on Dargo from the Gatherer helps clear things up: "To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you’re paying, add any cost increases (such as the commander tax), then apply any cost reductions (such as that of Dargo’s first ability)."

The commander tax and the cost reduction are exactly equal. Every cast of dargo increases the cost of the next cast by 2, and every sacrifice of Dargo (or anything else) reduces the cost of the next cast by 2. Therefore, for that turn (and that turn only), Dargo continues to cost only one red.

just a question for all you commander players. Does commander even revolve around your commander? or u just picking them for the collors and then play all the big staples in those colors seems like the "commander" is pretty useless XD

Staples are staples for a reason; they're great or very efficient cards. Personally my two paper cEDH decks - kinnan and Dargo-Jeska - are very much built around the commanders in that the commanders are the primary wincon. I think what you're describing is more like revolving thematically around the commander. In non-cEDH commander I definitely do more of that, but in cEDH the explicit goal is fastest win. Running cards for thematic or cute synergistic reasons just isn't cEDH.

You can tell they are viewer submitted decks when you see they barely interact to stop each other's plays (Except at the very last turn). The stack was so empty and the field was so full. It looked a lot more casual than cedh in my book, and I come here to watch cedh.
