I agree with this as well. I found some of the missions quite absurdly difficult, considering the type of game it is, but man… I kinda felt like I was on vacation while playing it.

I was surprised how bad Splinter Cell 3D reviewed. I picked it up on a whim without looking up any scores and I thought it was fine for what it was.

The 3DS's launch titles may not be the best, but they do feature some pretty sick uses of the 3D.

I think the first two things you mentioned, poor launch library and a woefully underutilized 3D mechanic built into the system, are exactly why the 3DS didn't land as well as Nintendo might have liked it to. I worked for Worst Buy at the time and was managing the gaming department when it came out, and Nintendo and Worst Buy paid me and my second banana to go from Buffalo, NY to Pittsburgh, PA for a week-long training for the 3DS and a few other things, and it was the very definition of overkill. We all thought the same thing. Yeah, it's cool and the 3D is neat, but you can't just use it all the time because sometimes it definitely impacts game play negatively, and I really hope you have more than the built-in stuff and augmented reality stuff to play with. I don't remember the 3 games we got to play with but one was the Kid Icarus game, and it really wasn't that great.

Love me some pilotwings. It was the only 3DS game where I HAD to play with the 3D halfway because the effect was just THAT strong it did hurt my eyes.

If anyone is curious, Rayman 2 & Splinter Cell 3D will run at a locked 60fps on new 3DS consoles with CFW. As well as getting totally locked framerates on older games that could run poorly like, Ridge Racer, MGS3D, Resident Evil & many more. Insane what running old 3DS games on “new” 3DS at full clocks do for them. If you enable to overclocks after levels load that gains the most success. Some games crash. MOST tho, most, run as you would’ve hoped more powerful hardware would. Even if Nintendo didn’t go back & patch support for upgrades. At least the community can do it for them.

I was VERY into the 3DS around it’s launch window so I’m ashamed to say I’ve played a large majority of these games. My one point to add is that I cannot believe that Nintendogs & Cats got such a poor reception. It was significantly improved over the already well loved DS Nintendogs but reviews ripped it apart simply because it targeted casual gamers. Casual games can be fun, as Nintendogs + Cats proves so elegantly. I’m glad we’ve moved on from those times where casual games would create a weird kind of rage amongst core gamers.

While I agree it really should have been done on og hardware, he would then need an flashcart or to then figure out installing them directly onto the 3ds. Or he could spend £60 to buy all the games from ebay. Then figure out capturing footage from the 3ds via a capture card or shitty camera capture the screen and have to turn 3d off otherwise we can't see. At the end of the day I can see why he didn't bother. Oh and if you didn't notice he already was playing a 3ds at the start of the vid ...

I got one at launch. The only game that held my attention was Street Fighter IV. I can't even really remember the others that I got. I did get Sims 3, I remember that, because I took it back after five minutes of playing. (Oh, btw the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon strategy game was actually pretty good, but I didn't get it till much later when it was on sale. A missed opportunity, as that'd be my favourite launch title)

I waited til the day Ocarina 3D came out, and also downloaded Link's Awakening on the same day. I was fuming when they announced the price cut but those 20 free games made up for it, especially as Fire Emblem Sacred Stones costs so much now.

Even if you could Emulate Face Raiders or Streetpass Quest you wouldn't be able to play them. Streetpass quest uses Streetpass and other people in order to play. Face Raiders requires you actually moving the 3DS and the camera around to attack the enemies.

With much I never heard of some of these Launch titles some are impressive what they tried to do. They may be eh quality but the efforts made are commendable. Pilot Wings is a tech demo but I assume pretty fun, Sims 3 use of the bottom screen is really cool having only experiences the DS and PC version besides the PSP version of Sims 2 Pets which did a good job besides Sim 2 the adventure game and the other handhelds are usually adventure games like the Sims Life Stories kind on PC. Nintendogs is what you expect of a casual title and adding Cats woo, yes I ignore the mic part working or time and place, no Steeldiver here huh. SF4 is impressive, the Ubisoft outings not counting Rayman 2 Dreamcast port to the 3DS (which is a good version but I mean yeah again they had to do that) are interesting when they gave up on AC for the 3DS but put one on the Vita. No one talks about them though. Asphalt is what it is a mobile phone racing game by Gameloft. The rest are fine enough I guess. A Musou on there sure, the RPG seems fine.

I understand why you’d use emulation to capture footage…but why didn’t you guys play the games on an actual 3DS for review purposes? I know people shit on the 3D nowadays, but it was the consoles major gimmick, especially in the early days.

Tbh I’m surprised LEGO Star Wars 3 on PSP got a lower score? Didn’t play them at release tho having a new 3DS/PSP go in front of me running the game & it’s near 1:1. 3DS definitely has better colored lighting/shading but with 3D off the PSP gains a resolution advantage. Anyway! Holy smokes, handholds are great!

They used the actual games for the 360 and ps3 videos but when they did the psp video they started using emulators due to footage capture and also because some launch games are expensive and they just use emulation ever since the only other time they used the actual games is the ps4 video

Most of those weird camera angles you mentioned that could be switched were there for the 3D you couldn't see in emulation. Weird video to do without being able to use the motion, microphone, or 3D but I get it wouldn't be worth it to actually BUY all these games.

They really aren't that expensive. This is 1 problem I have with triple jump, love the channel but the do the bare minimum alot since they put up a video daily. Not gonna kill them to spend a little money on videos to make them better sometimes. Esp on games u can't truly play/review using emulation
