Sharpie fabric textas will give you a crisper finish. I love it!

I hadn't heard of these sharpie markers but I checked my local art supply and they have them so I'll pick some up before I try my next project. Thanks for the tip!

Wow Gini---looks great! I really appreciate that you mentioned your whole process & the challenges (I would never have thought about the bleed factor & probably ever fabric is going to be different) Totally inspiring project!!!!!
@thebigsewalong3 ай бұрын
thanks Beth, this fabric was pretty thin and not particularly tightly woven so I think that might contribute to the bleed factor but I'll see as I try different fabrics

It’s so interesting painting on fabric. I’ve never been brave enough to try this. Nice pattern for shirt! I hope you try more of this and share😊

@@thebigsewalong I ordered that textile fabric painting book you spoke about a few shows back now. It should be here this week.

Love it! You did a great job. Hand painted clothing doesn't have to be perfect nothing handmade is! I think painting the pieces before construction is a great idea. For designs that go over the shoulder or through seams you could line up the pieces at the seamline and draw your full design. You're an inspiration!

lining up the seamlines before painting is a great idea. I will try that!

Thanks Gini for the input and cute graphic design. I’ve been looking at block printing and I found a recipe for making your own fabric paint on Pinterest. It’s all still in the cogitation faze, atm!

I will look up how to make fabric paint. Others have also suggested Sharpie fabric markers so I'll try that too let me know how you get on

hi, hey I got a mention! So glad you loved Plumo, guessed you would. So very you, particularly with the heavy boots they model. Prices are for those who can…but, it’s great to see how we can adapt things for this unique style. Have a good week. Sally x

Painting on fabric is. Something I would like to do. I love your shirt dress? Why do you like the Japanese patterns. I’m retired and I would really like to change my very conservative way of dressing without looking crazy.
@thebigsewalong3 ай бұрын
I think I'm drawn to the simple lines and relaxed shapes of Japanese style. If you dress on the more conservative side maybe just try adding an oversized top or two (and not too oversized!) and see how you like them. I find these patterns are a good way to really feature a cool fabric. Also, if you haven't already, check out the sewing workshop patterns. They are definitely more interesting than your average but not so interesting as to be crazy if you know what I mean.

I’ve never done this but have been wanting to try some textile art. I have heard using resist will keep the paint from bleeding, not sure if that’s for fabric. Using a temporary adhesive with a stencil would give a crisp line, I have done that. Paint markers work great to go around the design to make those cartoon like outlines.
@thebigsewalong3 ай бұрын
thanks Jen, a couple of other viewers have suggested the markers too so I'll definitely give that a try. I have a friend who's used resist on fabric several times and it works pretty well. I think it's pretty messy though , or maybe that's just my friend 🤣

This turned out fantastic! Will you show us when you've finished the two thrifted shirts? I’d love to see that, especially as I have a few men’s shirts I found in the local charity shop sitting around, adding to the almost infinite list of Things To Do (sewing version). 😂

😂😂😂I have one of those lists too! Yes I will definitely share when I work on the thrift shirts.

Looks fab, I love your graphic design on your shirt 😍 there is some new Sharpie pens (creative markers brush tip) out that are brush tip acrylic paint for painting on fabric and other substrates, I really want to have a play with them, it might be easier than using the speedball 😀 thank you for the vlog, always great to see you 😊

WOW! Love your graphic dress! Perhaps using black construction paper arrows to experiment with placement would help decide where to put more arrows and then give a template to trace around? A blog to check out is The Insouciant Stitcher as she paints or prints her sewn garments and she shares her processes. I knew and love Plumo but Miel is, like you said, crazy good!

Hi 👋🏼, there is a forum on Sewing Pattern review called textile arts, it includes fabric painting, there are several pages to read. I haven’t followed it closely but I did note that Rivergum a member said the best way to get crisp edges is using a stencil. Hope this helps, Bridget R
