The thing is, Playstation hasn't been in first place for a while though. Think about it, they have to work twice as hard to make anywhere close to the same amount of money as Xbox, their consoles sales are actually far behind to Nintendo, Most if not all of their live service games have failed up to this point and PS Plus is failing to compete against Gamepass looking at the leaked slides recently. Mindshare is really the only thing they have going for them at this point and even then, mindshare isn't giving them profit anymore, they've actually been decreasing in profit over time. Heck, they don't even have a first party roadmap for 2024.

Sony needs those juicy Metacritic scores high, and invest money like crazy in projects that they know will sell like pancakes. This is their main problem: Safe bets and not much variety. They don't take risks anymore, they milk on the same cows over and over again until it gets dry. I miss the Sony from the 2000's and 2010's, the one that took risks to be in the place they're now and did weird experiments once in a while. Customers are forced to like superhero crap now, and knowing how PS fans behiave they'll defend it even if they don't personally like those games because of dumb brand loyalty.

Xbox have become a bulldozer in the industry with addition of ABK on top of Bethesda, Zenimax etc. Console sales is irrelevant as it's shrinking. Neither PS4 or PS5 will ever sell PS2 numbers. Consoles have a max limit of 100+ millions and it's impossible to grow a console market. A huge chunk of Xbox gamers plays Xbox and Sony games on PC instead, so it obviously hurts console sales.

Xbox has released 10 first-party games this year with most of them being a massive sucess, except Redfall but it's getting better. Starfield was the biggest launch of Bethesda history. And Spider-Man 2, their only game, was not so good as the first one. And Xbox has a lot of games set to release in 2024 and foward. Avowed, Blade, Fable, TES6, Clockwork Revolution, while Sony has NOTHING.

Final Fantasy 16 is not a first-party, so the only Sony game this year is Spider-Man 2. Also, FF16 was a flop from the financial perspective, and I even saw some PS fanboys channel here in Brazil (Drake Sincero, you case you want to search) that is a true FF fan, and hated the game completely. People also said that it didn't have so much RPG elements, so I don't know if it can be considered a massive sucess. And Starfield got 11 mixed review on metacritic, that's not "a lot", specially considering that sites like Meristation gave Starfield a 58 but gave Forspoken a 73, or Eurogamer, which has been attacking the game even before it launched.

Not really, AAA games aren't cutting it for Sony anymore, just look at their leaked slides from the insomniac hack, They actually make very little profit from these big games, they NEED to make more AA than AAA. The big issue is they don't have the variety advantage that Xbox has and they've only realized this far too late. Have you noticed how all of their games this generation have actually not been anything original or brand new? just remasters, ports and the occasional remake. Even Spider man 2 was a copy and paste. I just want to know how many times will PS be remaking the Final Fantasy 7 and 16? I have a PS4 glad I got it. I enjoyed Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn. All those games that are available for PS5 you can play on PS4 with the exception of a few games.i think Xbox is slowly making a comeback especially after acquiring activision/blizzard. They are sitting on a straight goldmine with the titles that have come from those studios. This is one of the reasons why I got an Xbox series X. If MS is on the trajectory I think they’re on then I think this gen Xbox will eclipse PS by a landslide.

Your comment is so wrong in so many ways. Redfall can definately be fixed with updates, it's a live service game. Starfield don't feel like a 10 years game, it's in fact the only truly next-gen game this generation, with mechanics and content that would never run on last gen because of the weak CPU. About sales NO ONE CARES. I play games not sales. About Halo Infinite, it never "looked like shit" in terms of graphics. In fact it's a beautiful game. The multiplayer is doing amazing, possibly one of the best Halo multiplayers ever.

I knew when I saw the title of the video that I was gonna end up disagreeing. I dont think PlayStation has lost its way. (With the exception of the price hikes).I think the PS5 started off with strong software such as Returnal, GOW, GT7, Horizon Forbidden West and Spiderman just to name a few. The popularity of the PS5 is possibly even greater than the PS4. Xbox on the other hand, their sales are down a whopping 52% in Europe. I think Sony is doing fine and I think Microsoft is hoping game pass becomes the next Netflix and continues to grow. We will see what actually happens.

We know from the leaks and layoffs that Playstation is not doing well, financially speaking. Their shift to all AAA for their first-party means that they arent getting enough money from software sales to recoup development costs in most cases, and there's about to be a big drought from their big ticket exclusive offerings with the cancellation of TLOU Factions 2. Jim Ryan cashing out most of his Sony stock before he's even out the door is a strange move if Playstation were doing well, and his planned successor is a guy Sony has brought in before to try and make failing divisions profitable, which is pretty telling. On paper, if you just look at sales numbers without expenses on their end, Playstation seems to be doing alright, but behind the scenes, things dont seem to be going well for them. And evidently, it's to the point where there are the freshly leaked internal documents that basically show they want to follow Xbox's Game Pass strategy with PS Plus and are aiming for "day and date" PC launches of first party games as well. SIE bet everything on AAA cinematic games for their first-party development strategy, and it hasnt been paying off. They dont actually make much on console hardware sales, and a lot of games they've paid good money for timed/console exclusivity on havent met forecasted sales figures either. They lost a lot of money on PSVR2, which had big R&D costs, but which never got off the ground since (like the Vita) they dont want to commit to supporting it (just today, they killed off one of their VR studios). There's also their big investment in acquiring Bungie, which hasnt been meeting projected goals lately. It's a very poorly managed brand and division, and while outside of the leaks it's not that apparent yet, we'll probably be seeing a lot more publicly visible signs of their bad financial situation in the next few years.

They spent 156 million on Miles Morales and got a profit of 104 million. They spent 39 million on Spiderman remastered and earned a total profit of 11 million. They spent 315 million on Spiderman 2 and got a profit of 75 million. How exactly is this them not even recouping development costs??? They know what to spend big money on and what not to. They are doing fine.

@@V8Supercar1 Those aren't great margins for AAA games, and the thing to keep in mind with Spiderman is, those are just the development costs vs sales revenue, WITHOUT factoring in the ridiculously expensive Marvel contract licensing fees (35-50% per copy, depending on the way it was bought), which I honestly dont know how they agreed to. We dont have figures on how many of the sales for their Spiderman games were digital, physical, or console bundles, but at a minimum, a third of the revenue per copy sold went to Marvel as royalties, and as much as half did. We dont know the actual ROI factoring in royalties, just the cost to produce vs amount sold. The first Spiderman game we know made Sony a profit, though that wasnt disclosed until after it launched on PC (where it sold 1.5 million). Miles Morales we arent sure about. Spiderman 2 though, given the royalties arent factored in, hasnt broke even yet with the sales figures we actually have
