You've called it spot on with the design of the rubber shroud or light shield and why it looks the way it does. That fin design is for air to get in and out around your face to keep you cooler and letting moisture escape, whilst still being able to effectively block out external light. Its really clever. It also acts as a kind of dampener to fit more snug around your face and can squash down and deform better to do that. One of the things I've often thought about the OG PSVR shroud was why Sony didn't think of putting some kind of venting on that. Now they've done it. Pity they didn't go all the way with my other gripe, which is the front halo pad. I think that also needs some vents on there to let your forehead breath.

To me it looks like it can be pushed in and out to suit your face and if you need more space for glasses for example.

Great video, AJ! Another thing is that if you look closely at the lenses, they don't look like fresnels. It could be that this is just a mockup, or that the rings aren't visible from this angle, but it could also be that the rings are significantly less pronounced/noticeable. I love everything about the design EXCEPT that the cable doesn't look detachable. That's potentially a HUGE issue. Not only does it eliminate the possibility of a wireless add-on down the road, it also means you still have to replace the whole freakin' headset if you step on and break the cable. That sucks. Really hope Sony changes this before launch.
@legendp20112 жыл бұрын
the non removable cable could be a big issue. maybe sony can work wiith ifixi to at-least offer kits where you can replace the cable (unfortunately the design is most likely locked in by now)

Fresnel lenses are confirmed by Sony
@GreyMatterShades2 жыл бұрын
@@tomcat3900 Yup, I'm just saying you can't see the ridges in the pictures, which either means these are mockups with different lenses in them, or the ridges on the fresnel lenses Sony is using aren't as noticeable, which would likely mean less god rays. Sony filed a patent a while ago for a new style of fresnel lens, so maybe that's what they're using.
@GreyMatterShades2 жыл бұрын
@@legendp2011 Hopefully they can do something, yeah. It's possible that the back part can be fairly easily disassembled and the cable can actually be replaced, but I'm not holding my breath. That certainly wasn't the case with PSVR 1!

Honestly the only thing at this point I’m a little disappointed in is the cord. I was hoping for a detachable usb cord instead of a fixed cord. While I have been careful with my current PSVR headset, all it takes is one bad tug and you are shipping your headset off to Sony for service.

@@PSVRUNDERGROUND it's a common issue with not just psvr, but every corded vr headset. some people go through 5 or 6 cables a year. psvr1 doesn't make you turn around (becuase of the front camera with psvr1). psvr2 offrs full 360 degree turning.........however this means the cord will be put under a lot more twisting back and forth strain

I have a Quest 2 and luckily a PC that can run VR but, that headset is heavy and you feel it after a while. The cord on the PSVR2 is no longer a deal-breaker initially it was but on reflection, if that is the cost for the standard of visuals I expect to see and the low latency yeah I am cool with it. Take my money Sony! Oh, please show us something at GDC.
@legendp20112 жыл бұрын
I am fine with the cord, but it being non detacble is an issue (vr cords wwear out quickly, especially when using them with full 3360 degree turning). design wise the psvr 2 looks comfortable (I have the rift s, and it also uses halo head-strap, and light weight is very comfortable)

Looks great although I am a little worried. I could be wrong here but I believe PSVR 1 was optimised for glasses users, even though this may have been the case my lenses are pretty badly scratched so hope the same doesn’t happen with PSVR 2

I know a few people that have a second pair of smaller glasses for VR. The bigger kind are more stylish these days but yeah could also be tough to fit in there. These do seem like they have a ring around the lenses I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I am actually on my second PSVR for exactly that reason. I have the original with white scratched areas in the middle of the lenses on my PS4 Pro and the newer model on my PS5. @shapeshifter-theamorphousg32642 жыл бұрын
I just scratched all the rubber off with a small knife on the front and now it's fine, but the strip of coating on the back repeatedly got dislocated, no matter how many times i tried to put it back in place. It annoyed the hell out of me so i fully replaced it with a strip of microfiber cloth comparable with what's used to clean the lenses. It stays in place perfectly and is comfortable, so my little modification turned out very well. I hope PSVR2 has a coating with better durability but i'm confident that Sony is already aware of this particular issue.

Hi AJ this looks really great it’s sort of what I expected it to be nothing has really changed on the the design just really really impressive tweaks and of course the field of view for clarity and 4K immersion, The headset is a very well thought out design which removes a lot of the problems that we normally have had with the original headset we’ve now got ventilation hopefully this will stop the lenses from fogging up, also Sony will have to make this future proof so that it can still compete with other headsets in the coming years the cables never bothered me but we need the cable for the power for me I’m very pleased with what Ive seen so far I’m sure we will get more detailed reviews, especially how the synaptic feedback will operate, also I think we will see a difference visually in the immersion of virtual reality the reality will just feel that much more real and closer

Hand/finger tracking is just done with software, so there's no reason they couldn't have it. No AJ but there is likely a safety reason that the headset has a fixed connection but not the PS5 end: with the new freedom of movement it would be very easy to move too far, tangle, or merely tug the USB-C connector on the headset. The fixed plug may be just done for that.

I think it looks weird, but I know that won't matter when playing VR games!

Whats the point , can't even get a ps5

I know it’s not as easy as walking into the store and grabbing one, which would be ideal, but most people I know have one by now, in some cases more than one, it takes effort and proper strategy, but it’s definitely doable. I recommend following one of those Ps5 stock alert twitter accounts.
