That Joker announcement was perfect, one of the best in gaming history. It’s the Game Awards, so the platform of what’s getting announced each time is unknown, Persona 5 has clout there because it’s a GOTY contender from the year prior and it was Smash’s release night. It was literally 2 hours from the US midnight launch. It was a perfect storm.

I wasnt even a persona fans and I don't even usually watch the game awards, but I was in my room at college and all my friends were watching it so I figured eh why not and turned it on in the background. I was already waiting on my copy of Smash to ship to me from my preorder (I like physical games ok) and at first I was like oh ok cool Persona stuff. But when that envelope flipped i literally shouted my ass off at 11:40 at night and made my roomates question my sanity.

​@@logicalvibes9896 It wasn't really solely due to "toxic fans". That's just the typical thing that everyone says from an ignorant perspective. Etika just struggled with depression for quite a while and it had a lot to do with his popularity and growth, his fans didn't even get toxic towards him until he started doing the god complex stuff. A lot of people were toxic at that time towards him in October 2018, but that's not the reason he took his life. A lot of people that acted toxic. Admittedly, at that time in 2018 I was one of the people posting clown memes, but I stopped because I realized the community was being stupid. It was Etika having a mental breakdown, not some attention seeking shit. People stopped being toxic for months, even when he did other stuff in early 2019, around April and May. He had his own issues with being a popular streamer and KZbinr, he even said it in his video before he took his life. I'm just clearing stuff up so you know the real reasons. Rest in peace to Etika.

I have to be honest, I was expecting to see Etika reacting to "Everyone is here" + Ridley reveal. IT's by far the most extreme, insane reaction to a smash reveal. Even if you don't post another reaction video (which you could just do "reacting to Etika" because you can feel his passion) you should definitely watch that one at some point. His excitement is palpable.

Thing to keep in mind with some of these reactions is the context. Sometimes some characters were presumed impossible due to being heavily associated with another platform, such as Cloud since FF7 was the first mainline game in the FF series that wasn't even released on a Nintendo platform until 22 years later. Snake was in Brawl but skipped out on 4, and after the messy breakup between Kojima and Konami (Kojima had a lot of input on Snake's appearance in Brawl), fans pretty much didn't expect to see him back. "Everyone is Here" was big since in 4 there was a number of characters that were left out (Ice Climbers, Wolf, Pichu) or replaced (Young Link) from the previous games, or later added in as DLC (Mewtwo). Banjo and Kazooie were an often requested addition, but since Rare got bought by Microsoft, that also felt impossible. Joker just came out of nowhere, no one was even expecting a Smash reveal during The Game Awards.

Heads up for smash: You start the game with the Smash 64 starting roster and unlock the other fighters by playing story mode or CPU battles. Also every fighter from Piranha plant onwards are paid DLC

And at least one that'll become your main pick. Also on the main menu, look for the Vault. It's pink, can't miss it. In the vault you'll find a tab that says "Tips". In that you can find tips about each character that'll tell you what these characters can do and some of their quirks.

You should look at the Sans mii fighter costume reactions. "Sans for smash" had been a meme for ages, both because of how cool it would be and how absurd and impossible it seemed. There was one guy, I forget who, streaming the announcement live who kept playing the first few notes of megalovania whenever the video cut to black between segments as a joke, and then the actual video did exactly that. People went wild, to the point that it utterly overshadowed the actual new character announcement at the time.

I got to meet and hang out with Etika a couple times at his friends place. A couple months before the incident. This dude was a super humble and friendly dude. Living in NY, i'd see him a few times at conventions. He was kind enough to give me advice on streaming and just talk games. Megaman: This was one of the biggest hype reveals for so many people, especially with the neglect for Megaman at the time (at least I think that was the situation at the time), there are so many good reactions that I bet people can find. Everyone is Here: This was basically hyping up that everyone was returning and it has such good fun reactions to it. Ridley: He is infamous as the one character who couldn't get into smash due to being too big, but people kept hoping for him since the Melee days where he appeared in that one cutscene in the Melee opening. Max's reaction to Cloud in Smash imo, is the best Smash character reveal reaction of all time. Also, fun fact, the creators of FF7 Remake, whenever they were feeling down or stressed out over making the game, questioning if fans will enjoy it, they would bring up and watch Max's reaction to the E3 FF7 Remake announcement trailer, and it would pick their spirits back up. That is how big Max is in the FF7 community, and how big of a fan he is. And then the fact that they brought him in to meet the staff and try out the game as well.

If Dee hasn’t already, he should totally watch SuperWiiBros08’s “Internet Reacts To ______ In Smash” series. They’re edited together clips of a TON of reactions, and it’s done super well and perfectly captures the overall hype of the trailers. He’s done them for the Sans costume, for Banjo, Steve, the Cuphead costume, etc. That, and he should 100% watch Vinesauce Vinny’s reaction to Banjo making it into smash, and Vinesauce Joel’s reaction to the Sans costume. They both kept playing music throughout the stream before the reveal to troll their viewers, before nintendo absolutely wrecked them with the reveals.

Also, when you play Ultimate...WAIT till you unlock like, 5 characters before you get the DLC characters. It's a rare opportunity to see the character select screen at it's emptiest before it fills out with DLC.
