The title is made for a game that receives the most votes from the players themselves, meaning that that one game was special to all those people, who can now be more happy to have a GAME OF THE YEAR version of their favourite game. If that game didn't receive game of the year, they would never have that special title as it's only yearly. Meaning if it's from 2018, it can't be made game of the year in 2019. It's meaning is special to a lot of people.

Resident Evil 2 is easily my GOTY for 2019. It's just so polished in every aspect: game design, mechanics, narrative, pacing and presentation are all top notch. It's also a sublime example of how a remake of any work of art should be. It perfectly captures the essence of it's predecessor but its presented through a completely modern lens.

Daniel Spencer if i were you i wouldnt buy death stranding. I started off loving it, still liked it about half way through but i started to get a little bored, then by the end i just wanted it to be over. Nothing ever really changes as the game goes on apart from having more equipment to walk with and new inconveniences. Watch a lets play if you're really interested or just wait for it to go down in price. Again, just my opinion.

Agreed, I loved it. Was so sorry when I completed the main story quest. Then they add the Eden trial and the Nier raid!! Omg, I’m in love with that raid. I was in shock when I saw the final boss, now it nearly brings me to tears every time I run it. The emotionally manipulative genius of Yoko Taro continues.

My personal pick is kingdom hearts 3. I've been waiting on it for so long and it just made me so happy. Was it perfect and everything I wanted it to be? No, but I understand and appreciate the work that went into it. My top two best games of this year are sekiro and death stranding. Need to finish them but sekiro is tough and lord Girishiro is just relentless in his pursuit to make me cry.

Tough year, re2, sekiro, mhw iceborne...but dmc5 wins in my book. I know it's a many-games-result buuut from a technical standpoint it has no peers. Other action games may have better level design and maybe more epic boss battles but not better gameplay; Dante's moveset is INSANE, the way he can engage with enemies is a feat of game design. It blows any other game out of the water. An action game could be built just around the Balrog and it would be a solid game. Then add up the other weapons, styles, Nero and V and it just steals the gameplay prize away. I haven't seen much praise around it but the amount and detail of the animations, enemy reaction to specific attacks, and synergy of dante's moveset left me in awe. It's not as easy to grasp as a huge beautiful open world map, it's like a concentrated kind of awesome. It's a blast to play.

Personally Kingdom Hearts 3 was my game of the year, but for recommendations I would suggest Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order even to non-fans of the franchise, as it is the perfect action-adventure with great balance between narrative, mysteries, mass battles, boss battles, action sequences, exploration and parcouring. In addition the difficulty levels are well balanced and can make it very challenging. Despite of some technical issues and being not "that innovative" it is an awesome mix of features from different action franchises combined to a fully satisfying experience :)

My second child was born towards the beginning of the year. This gave rise to a year of gaming in which I played many games but finished very few. I finished Kingdom Hearts III, Secret of Mana, and earned platinum on MLB The Show 18. Most of the year was spent catching up on big titles from previous years, so I think the best thing for me to do is share my favorite game that I played this year, not necessarily released this year. And that game is...... Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. OMG what an amazing gameplay experience. I haven't finished it, in fact I have quite a ways to go. But of all the games into which I've sunk an appreciable amount of time in 2019, MGSV:TPP has been my favorite gaming experience this year. It was a free download for PS Plus a couple years ago, and probably the biggest PS Plus steal to date. That being said, I'm currently about 8 hours into Death Stranding and I'm finding it incredible! I just haven't played enough of it to directly compare it to other games with which I've spent more time. AND I still haven't touched Jedi: Fallen Order.

My favourite was the logic game with the different-sized containers. Something really compelling about decanting water between them to end up with a specific volume. I enjoyed the main campaign, Comparative Cups, but the real fun was in the DLC, Proportional Buckets.

I feel this is one of the few years I haven’t had a game of the year. Maybe it’s cause I’ve not bought many games, my television broke or nothing has really piked my interest in comparison to next year with Cyberpunk, Avengers, FFXV and Animal Crossing. That, and I spent the first half of the year playing really old games. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Guess if I had to pick it would be RE or Kingdom Hearts.

@@joshcooper9043 I actually beat it in 3 playthroughs. I beat the game with 1 ending and had to replay Shura on NG+ and last 2 endings I spam saved on NG++ since i didnt look them up until after i beat the game.

Return of the Obra Dinn is AMAZING!! I'm so glad Elle has mentioned on the channel and named it her game of the year. I finished it in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down! I still listen to the soundtrack from time to time. The music is SO good!

I think my favorite game of the year is Outer Worlds. New Vegas was my favorite of the Fallout games, and I have been waiting for this game ever since it was announced. I'm really enjoying it. But honorable mention goes to Astro Bot Rescue Mission. It's a 2018 game, but I only just got PSVR this Black Friday and I can't stop playing Astro Bot. It is adorable, the music is fantastic, and the worlds are so beautiful and immersive. It's such a delightful game. Dave, you MUST get the platinum, if for no other reason than to see another Astro Bot livestream. That was one of my favorite livestreams on the channel!
