I'd be afraid to go under the trailer with THAT driver at the wheel. Tractor/trailer brake confused, didn’t seem to know about power divider, dropped pin, dumped suspension. Driver made every mistake he could. Excellent recovery!

It never ceases to amaze me as to how so many people and truckers too, refuse to pull over and slow down when there are emergency vehicles in or on the roadway.

What the hell was he thinking when he started to drop his trailer? Was he just going to abandon it if he'd gotten his tractor out? Also didn't seem to even know which brake does what. Some people shouldn't be drivers.

Quick highway safety suggestion: you and your father totally did the right thing using the other truck as a blocker and the CHP cruiser as the advanced warning for oncoming motorists. However, it would improve your safety if the blocking truck was a little further behind and the nose kicked out at an angle towards traffic, with the wheels cut. That way if the worst were to happen and a distracted driver plows into the back corner of the blocking truck, they should glance off and go off the other side of the road instead of into your work area. I'm a volunteer fire captain in the NYC suburbs and we have some terrible drivers around here. Stay safe and keep posting the awesome videos!

Back in the dark ages when God was a child (1957- 1962) I lived down there. I just had a 1954 Cheve, but I carried a shovel, boards, burlap, and other things to help me get out of that sand. it only would take your drive wheel to get an inch off the pavement and you were stuck. Well, maybe more than an inch. I only got stuck once, and that was right in town.

Drivers pull the pin thinking they get at least the truck out They have no idea that it makes the recovery much harder To recover the trailer with out the truck Or in this case get it re connected to recover it as one Just a dumb move at lot of tractor trailer drivers do Like Plaza said we got a pin puller here Now a simple winch out just cost him more money Correct me if I'm wrong Plaza

I am a new subscriber.. 2/3/2018. Just happen to see you on the menu board. I like West End and Hill, so I figure I'll like you too. I was surprised he was able to drive that rig at all with the wheels locking up, but the accident didn't look bad enough to rip an air line off. One thing I'd never do, is trust any driver to do what I ask, I'd either do it myself or double check he actually did as told, except for steering because you can see that easily.

It is a good idea for tow companies to have their own driver in the vehicle being extricated because it can be difficult to get drivers to follow directions. Tell them to turn left, they turn right. Brakes on they release the brakes. Put it in neutral, they have it in gear. Sometimes you don't have that luxury.

Some times I watch your videos and wonder; who the hell is driving these trucks and how did they get a CDL? Like this video, how did that guy get into the desert on the opposite side of the road and then he pulled the pin on the trailer? But the biggest thing is you asked CHP, and he just kind of shrugs it off! Don't get me wrong, this is totally nothing against you guys and probably accounts for a good portion of your work. But it makes you wonder, 'where the hell do these truck drivers come from'?

Asking that is like asking the same question to all "idiot" drivers in general, its easy to get your license and prove you generaly understand driving, but once you get the license after passing the easy testing parts its up to you to keep learning through your own mistakes and what others do that cause you to get into a situation. No one is perfect!

Probably next to know experience in driving semi trailers. Google australia 457 truck drivers and you will see there are a lot of inexperienced drivers in Australia mis-judging bridge and tunnel heights
@Joshua79C
@Joshua79C 6 жыл бұрын
mobiletransportvideo, there are more overhead accident drivers in the USA than anywhere else, due to the fact so many can rent/lease a non cdl vehicle up to 26,000 pounds and think they can go anywhere the car they drive goes but forget they are in a larger volume and weight vehicle, but Yovo68 is proof of how many do not get that height means actual height from road surface to lowest point of overhead. Except in NYC where they measure from above the road where snow builds up in winter to lowest part of bridge. I have only had one time where I misjudged the bridge ahead due to the signs being obstructed until I saw one but I stopped before I entered the intersection and pulled aside to let others pass, had to call police due to the amount of traffic to assist me backing up safely to get turned around and down alternate truck route. It was in a location in CT near NY.

We had to move a material handler out of Chicago. Couldn't do it at night and the police selected the route. They tried to take it under a 10 ft bridge then to a very tightly turning ramp. Had to reroute twice.

I HATE a twin screw that doesn't have spring brakes on both drive axles. It should be the law that both drive axles get spring brakes. I've seen so many situations (and been in a few myself) where only 2 spring brakes were a problem. I don't know what builders and buyers are thinking when they build or spec a truck that doesn't have 4 parking brakes. The weight savings is negligible when you have regular drum brakes. So what, it saves maybe 20 lbs in weight between the spring brakes, the valving and the extra hoses needed. 20 lbs is not a weight savings worth under-equipping a truck.
@Joshua79C
@Joshua79C 6 жыл бұрын
You do know or realize their are springs on air brakes? They are there for safety when air build up or pressure is lost and so the springs activate the brakes, disk or drum. If you do not get it then I suggest you look up commercial vehicle air brakes, same things used in trains but those are beefier.
@donborman6502
@donborman6502 6 жыл бұрын
He's referring to the fact that vehicles can be ordered with the spring brakes on only one axle. It saves a few dollars. I haven't seen spring brakes on trains. Air holds the brakes on. There is a valve that releases the brakes on the cars and fills the air tanks on each car. When air from the locomotive is removed, the air from the tank on the railcar applies the brakes. To move the cars without a locomotive, the air has to be bled off the car tank. There is a manual chain whinch to apply the brake when there is no air. A system like trucks and trailers use requires two air lines where railroads only use one air line.

What is a trailer break? Do trailers drink coffee and smoke cigarettes?

What the hell was he thinking when he started to drop his trailer? Was he just going to abandon it if he'd gotten his tractor out? Also didn't seem to even know which brake does what. Some people shouldn't be drivers.

Part of getting ones CDL is proving you know what each brake control pin is for, often easier to just say color unless they happen to be color blind then its left/right if they speak a different language than you.
