When Tommy said "Just because life stopped for you doesn't mean it had to stop for me" he was wasn't referring to his new life with Maria in Jackson. He was referring to Joel not being able to move on after Sarah's death. He even very subtly glances down at the watch that Joel still wears. Not sure if you listen to the official podcast but in this week's deep dive with Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, they talk in detail about this Tommy & Joel scene and you're pretty much right about Joel being jealous - Tommy telling Joel he was going to be a father hit hard for Joel because Tommy is going to have that life with his child that Joel was robbed from with Sarah. And that scene where Joel sees the girl that reminds of Sarah - in that moment, he's seeing what life could have been like if she had survived - Sarah would have been old enough to have child at this point; Joel would have been a grandfather. This was a beautiful and heartbreaking look at trauma and PTSD and Pedro Pascal was incredible throughout this episode. Nice reaction; looking forward to next week. 🙂

Yeah his jealousy is heightened by the casting of Maria to be black; Sarah was black/mixed, and it's likely that Tommy's daughter will be too. Pretty awesome direction choices I think

Suzie, they don’t have menstrual cups in the UK? Lol That was a Diva Cup that Maria left for Ellie. I love that they slip in the reality that women have a monthly period in this show…I’ve always wondered about that in other apocalyptic shows (i.e., TWD).

Not sure what a coil is, but that is a menstrual cup for your period! It would be much more practical in an apocalypse!

A coil is placed in the womb as a form of contraception and will stop women getting pregnant for 5-10 years. No idea how a coil was mistaken for a period cup as a coil is t shaped. And stays in the body and can only be removed and placed in by a doctor/nurse.

I feel like a lot of moments that people think they are missing out on from the game are mostly moments that don't necessarily translate well to a TV adaptation. For example the school with Bill in the game. That scene makes sense from a gameplay perspective because they need to add a goal and an objective to that moment in the game. Otherwise the player would get bored with that portion of the game because there is no conflict for them to traverse through. You don't necessarily need that same type of moment with a TV adaption. The goal and objective in a video game and TV series don't necessarily have to be the same thing. You can still achieve the same goal through different methods.

@CrazeeAdam
@CrazeeAdam Жыл бұрын
@@changingmind2522 i think maybe.. There could be a few more action sequences together with Joel and Ellie together. But.. It's a delicate balance because you don't wanna bog down the show with action when that's not the strongest part of the game even. I guess they could slow it down more with other things than action scenes. But it's hard too because in general the game moves quite fast in all reality seasons wise. And what not

Also I think people have to realize. Joel is 1 guy in his 50s. In a game it works, he can take what enemies give him and use health packs. How realistic is it that in a realistic looking show, that he'll survive 1 on 10, 20, more. Not super realistic

Agree that the show is compressed in some aspects, like with "Sam and Henry storyline", but we also have to understand that it was not given that this show would get 2 seasons... also from a tv perspective, the show will be more impactfull as a mini series rather than 7 seasons with 11 episodes where things drag out and it looses production value over time. like the last seasons of GoT.

21:03 Joel feels a type of way about his brother being married for a multitude of reasons I think: 1) He is Tommy’s brother. It’s kind of heartbreaking for him to find out such big news so late. And also in such a casual manner. 2) He is jealous. He’s out living a hard live traversing the country and losing everyone he loves while his little brother, Tommy, is married to one of the councilwomen of a nice commune and thriving without him. 😢 Tommy even comments on how much older and rougher Joel looks than his actual age while Tommy still looks pretty young even though they’re not that far apart in age.

This is the most vulnerable we’ve seen from both Joel and Ellie yet. We know watching from Joel the desperation to close himself off to preserve whatever humanity he doesn’t want to lose yet and him breaking down in front of Tommy is indicative of how much he’s barely keeping it together. Ellie, on the other hand, is a whole different kettle of fish. This is where her abandonment issues begin to boil over the more she loses her innocence; between being orphaned by her parents, being pawned off by Marlene, losing Riley, Tess, Henry and Sam, now she has to watch her father figure pawn her off and abandon her too? This girl can’t catch a damn break; it breaks my heart when she repeatedly tells him “Don’t leave me alone”.

The movie they show is "The Goodbye Girl," and it's a sweet Oscar-winning rom-com from the late 1970s. Creator Mazin mentioned including it because he loved it (it's a wonderful movie, seriously), and it includes a subplot where a little girl meets the new apartment lodger and realizes, "This guy would be a great dad to me," and then decides to make that happen. Which echoes Ellie instant recognition of Joel as "this is my future Dad now" even though it takes Joel much longer to accept her into his heart. We next hear but not see the scene where Lucy tries to comfort Elliot, the guy, after he is in despair and vulnerable, so it works as subtext throughout. Hope that helps! Love your posts as always.

It's a heavier snow, not the pretty white stuff you see in movies. It's pretty at first, then power lines snap and trees fall because it's so heavy. When it is melting away, it's a sludgy, muddy mess. Not to discourage your bucket lists lol.

The show runners have already said that the 2nd game would take at least 2 seasons to tell so it will not be shoved into 1 season (however the game is massive so even 2 seasons could be difficult). Also they weren't told how many episodes the first season had to be, in fact it was originally 10 episodes but they combined the first 2 episodes to make the pilot because they felt it was important to introduce Ellie in episode 1 and originally it didn't do that. If you don't listen to the companion podcast for each episode I would highly recommend it because Craig and Neil share a lot of cool thoughts behind their decision making process for any changes that are made and things like that.

Tommy pissed me so much I wanted to punch something. Poor effing Joel: he has fought always (even in ep 1!) to keep Tommy from trouble, and when he didn't hear from Tommy, his first thought was to go and find him even though the chances of finding him were slim - Joel would have roamed the entire country to find him! Like.... MAN, I just got upset again, the nerve Tommy had. :D (But thank you for the uplift immediately afterwards: as I was writing this, you got to the mooncup part and I started laughing - how have you not heard of them, Suzy? :D No shade, though, I'm just genuinely surprised.)

I think.. It's easy to get lost in what Joel has done to find Tommy because we follow him and not think about why Tommy left Joel in the first place. Because he wasn't happy, and he wanted to get away from him even. He wanted to move on, in any way, Joel wouldn't. Now Tommy isn't completely innocent either. He should have just been straight with Joel, but that's probably pretty hard with a guy still thinking about his daughter. Very complicated situation

Um. So. In a game, action and combat are needed in a lot of games.. But in a TV show it's not as needed. And in a game like TLOU anyone would say that the action and combat is actually the weakest part of the game (a bit better in part 2 but still) and the writing and story is more important. And in the last episode there actually was quite a bit of suspense and action scenes. But it'll never take precedence over the story telling in a TV show

You cannot do a 1:1 adaptation of a video game. You adapt the heart and soul, and stay true as best you can to a game that also tells its story through chest-high wall combat. The gameplay aspect is ONLY a narrative tool used in THAT medium. Shows will always be different (budget/scheduling/availability/wider audience.) You can't please everyone, but maintain realistic expectations. My only gripe would be, I wish it was a 10 or 11 episode season. But I understand, given the aforementioned considerations. We're getting an amazing product! Absolutely love the production. If I want the other stuff I love, I'll play the game. :-)

Which would still be possible in this instance as we've seen them do it in less serious circumstances. Good point with the horse though, could make the puncture worse I guess.

@@SuzySteejo out of curiosity why do they make you feel ill? They are quite effective and safer than tampons with no risk of toxic shock syndrome, which I’d imagine is worse in the apocalypse with old products and no real access to toilets consistently. I personally loved that moment in the show, it’s not often a show written by men will acknowledge biological women’s unique struggles in this kind of world.

I agree a lot with what you guys said about Sam and Henry in the beginning.(I’m not a skipper!!) I feel that in the game we get to live in the moments and take our time, and that helps the story. The show, while still amazing, feels like we’re trying to move on from one character to the next episode by episode. I personally think there was enough material to have Sam and Henry for two episodes. Edit: finished the video: agree even more. We were in the ‘fall’ section for just this one episode. It felt like we just moved on too quickly. We’re not living in moments for long enough. This show is great, but its pacing is quicker than I wished.

The majority of the in game time with characters is gameplay focused. If you want more time with them I understand, but that means changing the story and creating more drama where there wasn't any in the game.

@@pooty195 there wasn’t any drama in the game? The most dramatic moments in the show are from the game. Also, they’ve already added gameplay moments that work. They can add more.

@@changingmind2522 I didn't mean there wasn't drama, just that they would have to invent more of it to fill the episodes. And for all the crying gamers do about being faithful to the story I'm sure that would be well received 😅

@@pooty195 we can agree on people who whine with adaptations. I hope I’m not coming off that way myself! I genuinely enjoy the show SO much. It’s just knowing there could be more is a little frustrating (much like Game of Thrones, and that’s coming from someone who actually likes last few seasons). Especially because we’ve seen them add gameplay elements (like I said) and their own scenes (like those incredible openings). I just think about how there’s only 3 more episodes and there is still SO much material to be covered in that amount of time. So really I’m saying more episodes could improve this already really good show for me.

I think you are forgetting that the video game is only about 8-9 hours long. Not including DLC. Go back and look at at the sam and Henry part in the game and you’ll realize it’s only about 45 mins long depending on how much time you spend exploring.

This show is one of the most expensive shows ever made. They're spending ~15 million per episode, well over $100 million total. It took 13 months to shoot and god knows how long in pre- and post-production in addition to that. You can't just 'make more episodes' with a price tag and schedule like that. There would have to be a drastic reduction of production quality, where everything looks cheap and blue-screeny like a shitty network television show.
