“What if Luffy IS Joyboy?” Hear me out- what if luffy goes to the ancient kingdom somehow to fight against Imu, who has the ability to travel between the past via same means as luffy. Why? Because Vegapunk also declared that the war has not yet concluded - so maybe it means that luffy (as joyboy) is still fighting the present from the past with some advanced level of future sight. Moreover the joyboy panels definitely are foreshadowing joyboy and the silhouette to me look incredibly similar to Luffy!
