Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching. This is another full 4K video!!! In this episode, we are hit by the recent "bomb cyclone" winter storm. We didn't get a lot of snow, but had extremely cold temperatures for our area. At the time of filming this video it was -6 F (-21 C) with a wind chill of around -25 F (-31.6 C) We aren't accustomed to those temperatures in the middle of the U.S., but we were prepared. I would not want to have to deal with those temperatures like some people do. Perhaps you get used to it?? Those people probably wouldn't want to work in the sweltering heat and humidity of our summers. Anyway, back to the job at hand, a customer was plowing snow and spreading ice melt when the wheel studs and nuts broke off one of the rear wheels. Ethan and Gavon take our unit #10, the Peterbilt 337 with a Miller Industries 4024, 20 ton towing & recovery unit to help out this customer. I take my personal truck in case I need to leave for another call. There is one part of this video that makes my heart drop....you will know when you see it. As a dad, it scares me that my son my be seriously injured. Thankfully, he was not. This video shows how quickly things can happen. I've watched that same section of video in slow motion repeatedly to make certain he didn't hit his head or his face. It is scary when you see it, but he is ok. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

A lot of people are concerned that I may have taken some keyboard warriors, couch commandos, or whatever you want to call them, too seriously and may have had my feelings hurt. Please be assured that the comment I made was actually made in jest. I do get called a micromanager, but I don't take it to heart. Please don't worry, I am just fine. My goal for each job is to get the customer taken care of and make certain my crew is safe. If some people want to call that responsibility "micromanaging" then so be it. That is their issue, not mine. My son Ethan and several other younger members of our team are now out doing jobs on their own, coming home safely, and all while causing no damage to our or our customers' equipment. So, micromanaging or not, apparently my method of training is working. There are always going to be people who want to bring others down for whatever reason. I know this and was actually being dismissive of that type of person when I made that comment in this video. Do I know everything????? Absolutely not. I respect comments and polite suggestions from my viewers and have learned a lot from people who are able to see things from a different perspective. When constructive criticism is given in a respectful manner it can be an excellent learning tool. Disrespectful, rude, and "know-it-all" type of people aren't worth my time. I choose to see the positive in life. Help me keep this channel growing and glowing brightly in this often dark world. There is much to come!!! We may not all share the same beliefs, however, "kindness is universal". Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

You don't micromanage. You're cautious. You want everyone connected to your calls to go home safely each time. You're a very good teacher to those who work for you including your son Ethan and your son in law Talon. You're good at your job and you have earned the respect of the people in your community who know you and the respect of the law enforcement and fire fighter crews you work with. Thank for your honesty, emotion, compassion, courage, and confidence. You are a credit to your profession. God bless you and yours, Mr. Pratt. 🫡👍🙏

There's a lot of ways to get to ten. But there's nothing wrong with having such an experienced operator watching over your shoulder, and having those tips and suggestions along the way help to ensure the job goes smoothly. It's a great way to learn. Plus, I'm sure you're not used to sitting back on a job, you're always the one leading the team.

With this type of job, in those conditions what could possibly go wrong? Obviously you need to consider the conditions, before and after the actual job as it is all too easy to fall over. Not the sort of vehicle you normally pick up with a 20 ton wrecker, but the set up made it different. Stay safe and greetings from Melbourne, Australia.

No you're not micromanaging, you're looking out for your fellow employees. I've been doing what I do for 42 years . Always try to help out the new guys. Most new guys don't want to be bothered, they say they know what they're doing. When things go wrong first question is, why did that happen? I just smile. When I was a young man, I listen to the old-timers and kept my mouth shut.

I was watching another video the other day, a KZbinr just starting out with a rollback, I watched everything this person filmed, and at the end of the video I was shaking my head thinking "that's not safe, that's not how Ron would do this" so thank you Ron for putting safety first, educating everyone, and for being so careful. You and your crew and family are wonderful.

From what I seen of you of your vids over the past few years.... Anyone would love to have you as a boss as the lead with a big heart and open mind, but security in your self to know that your plan is safe and best way to go.... Like you say lots of ways to get to 10 but they all get there in the end, so don't worry about how others would do it as you and your family (blood and work staff) get the job done respectfully... Keep being you Ron! Tho I do think its good to let the new guys get to make the idea, so they can build there confidence in there ideas but your there looking out for them on site or off site..

The balance between sharing your knowledge, teaching and not micro-managing is a hard one. You do a pretty good job and I'm seeing you take on the supporting role more and more as clearly you are trusting others to get on with it now. That said making sure everyone is aware of risks and safety issues is great!

Agree and every tow job is unique in one way or another. He has to have the confidence in his guys to know what not to do (definitive no-no's) and then see what decisions they do make and then (at times) show why one way would have had turned out better, easier, faster, etc. Very much a fluid situation and much to learn. Im sure Ron is still learning and always will to an extent. He has a very hard job trying to find that middle ground. Then you have personalities to deal with, as well. Most guys i have seen, seem to listen to him, which is good.

I believe Ron and crew. That Jesus said it best. And if any leads by example and kindness it's you. Whom ever thinks Ron Pratt is a micro manager. I challenge your keyboard oppionated butt. To come up here to Alaska and tell me when it's 20 below, trying not to get plowed into by drivers from the lower 48 who believe being so close to the car in front of you that you can't see the bumper, bumper humpers cause accidents. Ron is a mentor to so many. Micro manage this. In Matthew 7:1-6, Jesus taught us how to treat others: Don't judge, don't be hypocritical, and use discernment. This theme of treating others rightly continues to verse 12, the foundational verse for the section. “Do not judge lest you be judged,”

I, and my children, are unfortunate with my being a micro-manager, too. Fortunately, my middle daughter brought me up short several times so that I 'kinda' learned to keep my mouth shut unless I could see danger ahead. But there are 4 yrs separating my 2 girls and my oder daughter is not as outspoken as the younger and she took the brunt of my wanting to do things my way and my way only even tho most times there was another way. But I did learn, which also made me a better supervisor at my job.

I agree with your view on kindness 100%. It is a quality we need more than ever. I have been living in New Zealand for the past 3 years. When Covid 19 struck the NZ Prime Minister led the response, with the mantra ‘be kind to each other’. There were those who derided her but she was right. This remarkable woman has stayed true to her belief in the value of universal kindness through an incredibly challenging time in world history. As her time in power comes to an end I hope that her mantra of universal kindness will be her abiding legacy.

Lessons to be learned (by various people): 1. Do not run on ice. 2. Don't go all he-man and over tighten your lug nuts. 3. Don't plow when there is so little snow. You just create areas of packed, unmanageable depth in an otherwise large area of manageable depth. (Possible exception for drifted areas.) 4. Don't salt when it's that cold. The crystals may provide some traction while providing minimal melt, but sand provides better traction without rusting out your vehicles. 5. Don't be like me and be a Monday morning quarterback second guessing everyone! 😅 Good video Ron.

Just lost my left eye too-- and when that hit- I forgot all the other pain it hurt so much.. Now that it's gone- the other pain is back with a vengance!!! ha. Rough getting old!! :) YOu guys take care out there.

Great work in the brutal cold! It's colder there than here in northern NY. We got some freezing rain overnight but thawed some today. Glad to know Ethan is ok. Falls like that can cause injury and he might be a bit sore tomorrow. Hope not tho. God bless you all!

Ron, being the boss and dad, you want your son to learn the best way. Keep doing the same things you learned from your dad. These are life and death situations dealing with heavy equipment, if it not done the right way, people can get hurt. If you saw something that was done wrong, it not the viewers that will feel bad, but you. Don't listen to others, I was told a long time ago, "OTHER PEOPLE THOUGHTS OF ME, ARE NONE OF MY BUSINESS "! It has helped me in my life. I hope it also helps you in yours. GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL OF YOUR FAMILY & STAFF! Dave....

I had that experience 😂 I lived in North Carolina at the time and that winter was brutal, I drove a box truck delivering and picking up roll out carts, one storm was bad enough I had to shovel out my parking spot so I could get traction with my personal vehicle so I could get to work, the roads were for nothing all the way to work, I got my paperwork and loaded up and off I went, more than half the trucks were sitting when I got there and no residential trucks were out, I was only able to get about a quarter of my assignment done because the roads were so icy and slick, and even then I was sliding around, even got stuck on a incline in a subdivision because I stopped at the bottom of the grade to pick up a recycling bin from a customer, I spun the tires enough by the time I was able to get to the cross roads that the abs light came on and stayed on until I got back to the shop and turned the truck off for fuel, , turned the truck back on and the light went out, come to find out no trucks made it out the rest of the day, and the whole crew had to work that Saturday to catch up, I had over 60 hours that week lol

Just checked because l was curious. Missouri is a thousand miles or 1600 km south of "Winter"peg. Ethan is very lucky sir. The more training and experience he gets the better he will be. Even with the scares, you are honoured by the knowledge he has and shows, Ron. Keep training and he will be a safe, successful protege of the Midwest Truck family business. t

Good evening Ron, Wow, it looked very cold. I have watched your channel for many years now and you are too modest. Not only do you deliver ,repeatedly , a solid safe job, but you are also a great teacher and mentor. Above all, you continually demonstrate that the safety of yourself, family staff and customers is paramount. And of course, it all makes for a very satisfying viewing experience as well. Good to see that Ethan is also now a signed up member of the Pratt fall club! It looked painful. I hope it didn’t hurt too much. Best Wishes Roy W UK

My opinion for what it’s worth, this is your company, your liabilities, and you’re the hoss and the guy with the years of experience. Who cares if others want to criticize, they aren’t responsible for the safety of your guys, the trucks or the general public, you are. I can’t see you have done anything detrimental. You are a man who cares and has great morals and ethics and that’s why I love to watch this channel.

Ron, My wife and I grew up in Ct and then spent 35 years in NH. When I retired in 2104 we started spending winters in SC and in 2020 we sold our NH house and moved to SC permanently. Told my wife at retirement I would never move another flake of snow again and I've kept that promise.

Don’t let them keyboard warriors get to you Ron, they park their lazy a** up on the couch and hate on everyone, that is just what they do! They don’t own your business, you worked hard to get where you are and you are the very best, at what you do!! They can mind their own business, you can “micromanage” all you want!!! I’ve learned so much from you, and I’ve been in the same industry for 20+ years!! The knowledge that I have learned from you, has made me better at what I do!! Thank you so much for your videos Mr. Ron Pratt, and be safe out there! 😎

Hi Ron, don't let those negative folk's that claims your a micro-manager. If you weren't on top of what the guys are doing how else are they to learn. I enjoy your videos and have been watching for a good while since last year. It's great that your teaching them the correct way to do things. I'd worked within the towing industry for a little bit back when I'd lived in NYC. Keep up with the great work that you're doing. Bryan

Ron I think your very professional an always polite when instructing your employees on how best to do a job safely an without causing more damage to whatever your called to tow or recover I personally do not think that is micro managing I think that's on the job training from someone who's been at this profession a long time I do appreciate your videos an how professional and curtious & respectful you are ! I've learned a lot from watching your various ways of handling jobs ! I'm soon to be 60 and a person is never to old to learn something ! On the job training is better than a classroom in my opinion ! Great job ! Stay safe an God Bless you an your family an crew !
