Glad to see someone else doing the swap and teaching others to do so I just want to mention if you have a really early model year car with the mk20 ABS/ESP unit the car wont go over 40mph or so due to the speed readings between the abs unit and tcu being incompatible. That would require you to replace the mk20 unit with a mk60 one which isn’t that big of a deal as the lines can be bent into shape if you’re careful , wiring consists of just swapping some pins around but the mk60 unit comes with either 2 pressure sensors and 2 esp sensors or 1 pressure sensor and 2 esp sensors but the best version has 1 pressure sensor and 1 esp sensor which combines the 2 that are known to go bad on occasion, the mk60 with 1 pressure sensor and 1 esp sensor is the best for ABS/ESP retrofits in older models as well since the wiring is the easiest. It also allows you to enable launch control in the tcu which is a whole lot of fun.

Brake booster and clock spring also needs swapped in this conversion? I have to do a MK20 to MK60 conversion on my newly acquired 99.5 GTI, would love more of your insight.

@@thirdgeargrind yes they need to be swapped as well, as old mk20 does not have steering angle sensor

😍 that is so cool! I have a 2003 Golf TDI Auto and that transmission will need to be repaired or swapped somer that later. I might have to consider a DSG swap now! 😅

Hi. I already done same swap on 2002 golf with ALH engine. Also I have swapped the cluster from 5.5 passat tdi. I have the file adjusted for the cluster . Everything working find. ABS airbag central gateway.... no errors on the dash. I can help you with this. I have a trouble with transmission if you can help me please. When you accelerating and keep pushing gas pedal no problems but when you fully relise gas pedal the transmission like go in neutral when you press gas pedal again. I think that transmission doesn't see torque from ecu on can. How it works on your car ? thanks in advance

You said reverse lights is on pin 12 on the transmission? There is no wire in pin 12, I have a wire in 13 which is power from the ignition. I'm swapping from 02J to DQ250 in my ALH

There are several versions of 02E DQ250. The first versions have terminal 12 available for R signal. Others only have terminal 12 and the firmware must be modified to enable this signal... other newer ones are already removed.

@@Compound-ProblemsI have in mind to use 2 methods. 1 add a limitswitch in the gear selector. 2 add a canbus decoder.... with this we control the reverse light relay.

Just curious I just got done doing this swap myself and was wondering how you routed the 4 speed line?

I didn't, the 4 speed power steer line routing is totally awful and not ideal for the DSG. I used the native mk4 DSG power steering line from the new beetle however you can also use an 09a 5 speed tiptronic power steering line. And then for ALH you just have to bend the end of the banjo fitting where it bolts to the power steer pump to fit properly.

Just wondering - I did a pd150 swap but from the factory my vp110 didn't have esp. So if I wanted to dq250 swap my car i would need to swap all of the ESP bs in the car?

With the harness I made, I pinned it into a speed output from the new beetle mechatronic, to the t14a speedo wire and it worked flawlessly.

This was interesting, I expected a larger improvement, but I think part of it is my commutes are long distance. I only noticed a 5% difference. If you're constantly in the city I would expect a 10% difference.
