Maybe I'm reading into it too much but covering up Toccara in a robe just sends the message that plus size girls shouldn't be seen in lingerie. As someone who's always been plus size, it would've been amazing to see a full-figured woman rocking out lingerie. But no. They covered her up in a black robe and commented again and again that she was just too big for the items that they carry. Shameful.

They did this to Toccara a lot...I remember her being told (by a stylist, I think) something like "Do you think I'm going to have a rack full of clothes in your size?" The woman was so mean and condescending...There most certainly are tons of fashionable plus size clothing items available and if they couldn't accommodate her, it's because they didn't want to...And it was always the excuse of "That's how it is in the real world of modeling" but this is a competition, that they had control over...So either accommodate all the contestants or don't have plus size girls competing...They set her up to fail...

Back in the early 2000's, I went to Victoria's Secret to look for a bra. I needed a 38 C and was told they don't carry my bra size because they didn't cater to "large" women. I weighed 160 and they made me feel like I was more like 360 lbs. I left in tears. A LOT of companies didn't accommodate people with a heavy chest or higher weight until at least a decade later.

True, but in this specific scenario I think it's more ANTMs fault than the lingerie brand because in a modeling situation they should have absolutely already known her measurements and they did this multiple times that season. I honestly think they either didn't bother to give the stylists for the shoot measurements or even purposely lied about her measurements.

My biggest thing against antm was how much Tyra would go on and on and on about model exclusivity, and how they were trying to change the modeling world by having people of color, and plus size models etc etc, yet, they always shamed the girls for being different. Tyra would always talk about how she was considered a plus size model and how they treated her, yet, she purposely went out her way to ridicule “plus size” models on the show and purposely never have anything their size

Tyra seemed to be exceptionally bitter about experiences she had modeling and then took it out on the girls on ANTM, but used her struggles as an excuse to "warn" them about how the industry is. There seemed to be an incredibly skewed line between "guiding" them and having the opportunity to play up the mean girl to be "helpful", but in reality kind of seemed to enjoy it because, in a twisted way, it was somewhat "healing" for her. I don't know, but I don't like it.

the store carried Toccara's size, but I'm assuming they were using sample/display products for the models and didn't have her specific size available & they can't just allow people to wear the products from the sales floor only to put it back for sale (def not underwear). that being said they should have been informed of all the models size before hand by production so they could be prepared, instead they did Toccara dirty but it's not the first or the last time ANTM has done that to plus size contestants. I also think that Toccara was going to be eliminated when she was regardless because there was no way that Japan of all places would cater to her size (iirc she was eliminated literally the episode before).

La Perla most certainly did not carry her size. The lingerie collections would only go up to Italian size 4 which would fit a US 10/12. They could have found her a larger robe or sleepwear possibly. Also they are at the store so they could have had an associate pull the largest sizes and at least try them.

As much as obesity is a legitimate problem, people forget how completely toxic the 90s and 00s were when it comes to body image. There was no room for any body type that wasn't flat and stick thin, even if you were slender and curvy/athletic. I was a teenager then, and virtually all of my peers had EDs. It was bad.

They did it to so many women over all the cycles. These women had healthy bodies too. Nigel on cycle 4 said Brita was carrying way too much weight when she literally looked fine. Keenyah that same season was body shamed for daring to gain a few pounds. They made her seem like some lazy gluttonous woman when she literally looked thin still. They purposely made her pose as an elephant and the sin of gluttony for two separate photoshoots. Robyn in cycle 1 was often called huge especially by Janice Dickinson. Those are just a few examples. This show was disgusting trying to make these women feel bad about their bodies.

Unless those bras literally make me feel like im not wearing a bra at all, and they give an ungodly level of support, nobody can convince me that they are worth that much. Ill stick to my clearance aerie bras tyvm. Also poor Toccara, its like if you don't want a 'plus size' (she's still very slender!!!) model, then don't choose a plus size model to be on your show! it's such a bad look for their brand to loudly not carry something as, frankly SMALL as a 38DDD. but unfortunately, especially in the early 2000s, brands would happily exclude larger sizes because "he doesn't want his core customers to see people who aren't as hot as them wearing his clothing." (REAL QUOTE about the ceo of abercrombie and fitch in 2013 btw.) bodyshaming like this was so disgustingly commonplace. i mean, it still is now, but at least some kind people like you have the decency to call it out and fight back against it. the fact that now, she's selling a bra that goes up to a band-size of 50 is pretty iconic of her, tbh. loved the episode! oh, and to answer the question, i'd prefer the cash. after all, they probably wouldn't have had MY size either!

@@nellrose4699 ah, i'm not calling the actual cup size small (at least not in a negative way, hah), i'm simply saying their range is pathetic in terms of size inclusivity. a DDD/F is only about half of the current cup size range (they go up to J) so to not even have that is really annoying for a company to do. an F cup is "only" (again, not in a bad way, just in a "there are many people who have a more varied body than this" way) a 6-inch difference between the band size and chest measurement, so they fact this company couldn't even accommodate for that is just sad, and limits their buisness.

I know how this is because most stores don’t carry my size. Even in 2024 they barely carry my size. It’s a 32 DDD and Victoria’s Secret doesn’t have many options and other stores don’t carry it at all. My daughter needs to order a special size online because she’s a 28 DDD. They really did Tocarra dirty. The gong sound when she told her bra size, it was so disrespectful. For the models, when they are casted on that cycle, they won’t get paid. Once they got eliminated, they will stay at a hotel and be given a few bucks / day, but the girls confessed they use more than half for laundry and their essentials. They were struggling honestly. But when they are invited for the next cycles as guest, they will be included and get royalties every time in aired. Well done, Jessica. But Simon was very tame compared to the judges. He gave criticism but add bits of positivity in between. He didn’t want to hurt the model’s feelings much, as it seems.

Back then most of the brands catered only for “standard” sizing. I’m 60-65F/G depending on the brand, wearing 75D or DD. For some reason I was often treated like Toccara, like I was some kind of weird mutant, certainly paranoid because 75 IS my size. Your bra comes up when you lean forward? No it doesn’t, we know better. You like this colorful bra? Oh, no, that’s not for you, try this overly built granny one, it’s better to cover it all up. All with a condescending, almost disgusted tone. I remember feeling like a cow or some sort of gross deformity. I cried when I finally found a brand that measured me, catered for my needs and treated me like a human being. I still dread bra shopping though

An ANTM moment I think of right away is later in the season when Toccara and a stylist get into an argument over her basically not being prepared and having clothes for Toccara to wear. The stylist makes T feel bad and shakes her confidence, which was so sad, I wanted her to go further. The show failed majorly here. I remember the early 00s and I'm not excited to see body inclusivity reduce back to what it was then. In 2004, I had outgrown the store 5-7-9. And I had to silently sit through conversations while my friends compared what they bought over the weekend. I was a size 12, but department stores would only get 1 or 2 size 12s for a particular item so you had to just hope no one else liked that style. Size 12 in Torrid was too big. I just couldn't find pants or skirts period until my junior year of high school, 2008.

I'm a 38DD and have trouble finding Bras in any type of store like this. When I was in the navy I started just buying custom bras from the local seamstress. All of my tops had to be custom fitted. I also thought this was a trashy scenerio.
