An unusual mainline formation and combination would be the highlight of the weekend as Tyseley based locos 9600 & 5043 headed to Melton Mowbray and Harringworth Viaduct. The Great Western pairing are first seen at charging up the 1/125 bank to Arley with the pannier tank doing the majority of the work. Having watered at Humberstone road the gutsy pair are next seen at East Goscote and Rearsby and just like before the Pannier was the one in control.
Having now arrived at Melton Mowbray, 9600 had run round it's train and was now on the rear, this meant the castle was on the front and raring to go ! 5043 is captured departing Melton making plenty of noise as it headed to Corby on the shuttle service to Harringworth Viaduct. Unfortunately this video does not capture the locos on the viaduct, as the place was swarming with spectators and very little action is witnessed due to the 20mph restriction across the viaduct. Instead we capture the return section at Seaton as the pair head back to Melton Mowbray.
A good half a day out and nice to see something completely different for a change ! I hope you enjoy the video.

Liam and Phil, thanks for another superb video and detailed description. Wonderful stuff! That sequence of Rearsby complements the action shots perfectly. Best regards, Bob.

Love your videos....no jerky panning and every frame well composed. I don't bother photographing steam specials any more, I just enjoy the visual, aural and nasal elements and commit it all to my memory bank!

I would also like to able to watch the steam specials with my own eyes, instead through a viewfinder.

I sympathise. And I feel that my beloved cameras have got in the way of many things I enjoy, particularly motor sport, so I'm less inclined to haul bags of DSLR's and heavy lenses around now. With thousands of images on hard drives I'll probably never edit or print it's relaxing just to watch now! But please don't follow my example, you're just too damn good at what you do!

Hello, just found this. If you remember I was the other side of the track from you taking stils,( the first video ) just myself and you there. I have just put the picture on Flickr, Glynn Bates. Great video. We were very lucky with the sun, came out for just a few seconds. All the best.

Well covered as always Liam, judging by the way 9600 was being worked I thought Ray Churchill had come out of retirement lol, she certainly pulled her weight during the day and always a delight to see those flying con rods even at only 45(ish)!! Cheers, Brian.

Cheers Brian, the Pannier certainly pulled it's weight. There was a Ray involved, just not Mr Churchill.

Yes indeed & yes Ray Poole had a day out and also on the Shaky yesterday but I had other commitments so had to give it a miss this week. Cheers, Brian.

Excellent clips, thanks. As I used to come from Oakham and we did not have a car, the line to Leicester and Kettering were our way of getting about. it was always brilliant to look back along the viaduct and watch a freight going the other way.

Thanks John, while the viaduct is a magnificent structure, there's not a great deal of action across it due to the heavy TSR's.

I really feel sorry for the poor Pannier! Little wheel racing around at a seemingly unnatural speed! Piece from 8:30 seems more realistic.

The engine's are capable of hauling big loads, especially in the heyday of steam when on ECS moves. 45mph is the legal limit, though I've seen them pushing the 50 mark a few times.
