Project Management Basics I’m in college now for a Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership. I am currently taking the course. I have only the final project assignment left to take. During the course we envisioned ourselves as the project manager. We had to give lots of details on how we would complete projects from the initial phrase to the completion phrase and how we would fix errors and issues as they occur. For instance, if a permit issue will delay my project. I will re- issue a fast track schedule to have multiple critical paths going simultaneously to finish by or before the scheduled date.

​@@kizmo1810, I see. It looks like you have some cool simulation there. One thing you might notice that I do focus on soft skills a lot. That's because behind each and every action in project management there's a human interaction between people. I always suggest approaching any project with one crucial mindset - "people owe you nothing". Even those in your team. Even those whom you pay for services. That's why empathy is one of the key skills you need. If you find an approach to a person you can influence him or her to do what you need to be done.

Empathy, and organization. I am quite productive; however, I have a tendency to get distracted/become fixated, or focus heavily on certain details. I have worked on looking at the bigger picture and I have improved on not focusing on minor details, though I still need to work on it.

These two are big ones. Good. Do you practice deligating right now? It helps a lot with the fixation on specific details. It also teaches you to accept "not so perfect" results (at least as the first draft).

Sometimes, I think it's an important part of the journey. It teaches you to be humble, to be a leader, and to value people. And the anxiety becomes a tool to measure your performace.
