Higher order crossovers are a good idea. One caveat though, series resistance of the extra components. ie. The extra inductor in series with the woofer increases the series resistance which can increase the QTS of the woofer significantly. Another option is a tanked 2nd order. So long as you don't mind the phase rolling over a few times within the passband. PMC speakers sound excellent to me btw.

first order is the best idea, if the speakers can handle it. That gives the most transparency
@JesusISdaonlyway3 жыл бұрын
@@Tbonyandsteak Yep. However to reap the benefits of that kind of crossover the drivers themselves would have to be relatively high quality to begin with.

@@JesusISdaonlyway yeah that is thing really. Wanne spend your money on an high order cross over or on someting that really matters, the drivers.

The better design is an active crossover in the digital domain. This results in great precision that is easily repeatable and not subject to critical tolerances of every component. Multiple amplifiers are required. Add active equalization and you can control the system to whatever response you want with great precision. The cost of this alternative approach is falling.

this is what i have and the quality is unparalleled . you can actually hear the difference. the key is all in the crossover points in relation to the speakers and their distances

full of marketing BS. high end speaker with cheap lossy iron core inductor and cheap solen caps ? no, thanks.
@christopherward50654 жыл бұрын
truth seeker the difficulty is that inductors that are air cored will be very large because their flux density is low. Boutique capacitors are also enormous in the sizes and quantities that are needed. Boutique capacitors are also extremely expensive per capacitor. A fourth order crossover would be huge and require a lot of special fixings to hold oversized components reliably. The circuit would need to be mounted outboard in its own enclosure and would add hundreds of pounds to the build cost and then that would add thousands of pounds to the price. The small change in sound quality over and above what good engineering has produced would not warrant the expense. PMC is recognised for its excellent sound by people who use them in demanding professional settings and that should be an indication that their engineering instincts and choices are correct.

Look inside klipsch or jbl. The same cheap trash. Diy crossover parts are 1000% better

they dont even show active crossover , there are no transistors in it , just garbage

Czysto marketingowe podejście, nie ma tu ani inżynieryjnego, ani artystycznego podejścia, słabe komponenty deklasują całą koncepcję. Ludzie w garażu robią lepszą robotę.
