Westbound Pacific National & SCT trains , climb the 2,2% grade past the tennis courts and round the bend to Mt'd Lofty Station. It's refreshing to see more trucking companies taking advantage of rail transport for long distance hauls. The benefits of "Intermodal" allow for cargo to be shifted via the most efficient and coast effective mode for a particular journey, and for a country like Australia, rail is the answer for long distance freight.

Cool. Love those G class engines. Especially with the FA livery. Don't believe there's to many locos left with that livery. Thanks.

pn has owned them for years and only now have they removed the former owner's name. they havent painted them blue and yellow yet. are they too embarrassed to claim ownership?

Hi Gregg. I am a long time subscriber to your channel. Love the videos you produce I would also like to take the opportunity to say thankyou for the excellent series of videos you did on using Inox to clean track. It has been a total game changer for me with reliability of running improved out of sight. No more IPA ever for me. Many thanks. regards Peter NSW

Hi Peter, thanks for being a part of the channel, and i'm glad you enjoy the videos! That's great that you got the results i promised from using INOX ! Keep the IPA for paint cleaning and the track rubber for wood sanding! Thanks for the update and I appreciate the support and views! Cheers Gregg.

It’s interesting how a majority of the trains in Australia are intermodals. Along with different companies running trains on the same track. At times I wonder what would happen to North America railroads if the same thing would happen here. Great video, starting to get colder here in Nebraska. Cheers from freezing Terry.
@FishplateFilms

Hi Terry! Thats one of the reasons I model US railroads...the variety of rolling stock and of course, great looking locos! The distance covered down here, along with a small population in a large country, makes it almost impossible for private track ownership. the downside is you have one company controlling the whole asset...but its still a huge improvement over having different gauges ! Thanks for watching! Cheers (sweating) Gregg.

@@FishplateFilms It does depend where you go Gregg. Around Newcastle you get intermodal, coal, copper, ammonia concentrate, logs (occassionally), sugar, cement, grain, steel. And infrequently; sleepers and powerpoles. Plus, operators include PN, Aurizon, SCT, Qube, OneRail etc. And regular heritage trains. I'd wager more heritage stuff than you would get in any one section of track in USA. Qld is boring....you've made the right call to get out of there for railfanning.😊

Hi Rhys, I'm actually down on Monday week ,27th , to hopefully get some earthworks done on the block ? No builder as yet but I'd like the pads to settle naturally in the weather for better compaction. If your around that week give me a shout. You're right about the noise....the noise nazi's have ruined our loco's down here..LOL Cheers Gregg.

I can imagine that using trains over trucks for hauling is also better for the environment since trains emit less green-house gas into the atmosphere.
@FishplateFilms
@FishplateFilms 8 ай бұрын
Yes Joe ,they are about 6 times more efficient . Did you know that Class 1's in the US can haul 1 tonne of freight 500 miles (800km) on a gallon of diesel!! .....thats pretty impressive! Cheers Gregg.

Need grease on inside of the flanges
@FishplateFilms
@FishplateFilms 8 ай бұрын
There are several greasers on the hill Arthur! The amount of curvature and the steep grade is murder on wheels and rails! Of course you have to balance the amount of wear with traction , so too much grease can cause more problems than it fixes! It also depends on the wheel sets and how good their profile is! Thanks for watching Sir. Cheers Gregg.

what you say about using rail instead of trucks is so true. there's even an intermodal at warrnambool. in western australia, however, the only intermodal is near kalgoorlie. everything else goes on trains - yes, triple road trains. there must be some golden business opportunities for innovative trucking companies at bunbury, albany, esperance and geraldton.

With Inland Rails "finally" getting under way , I am seeing more Intermodal depots beng planned , which is a great thing. Imagine a standard gauge line from Perth to the Pilbara??????? That would make way too much sense..LOL Gregg 🙂

@@FishplateFilms, i wish! how about i little leap and sg to geraldton? you want to get on to your shifty mate lord dardgauge to make it happen. seriously, if an intermodal to warrnambool is worthwhile then any distance greater than melbourne to warrnanbool has a sound business case. i eagerly anticipate your shifty mate's new year's message.
