The biggest idea for me today is the mental rehearsal practice. It is a very good guided explanation of mental rehearsal. I have read the book and it is really detailed explanation and as a result it helps a lot to understand it. See it in your mind and enjoy the experience of it is what follows. The enjoyment part is what it was missing form my practice. I could not let go. But I am starting to experience joy now. And this is what helps me to let go of old patterns!

Of all the self improvement steps along a journey toward self improvement and change, this for me seems the most difficult... knowing what one wants, having a vision of a better self (and life) even commitment, however that river as you mentioned, looks difficult.

Hello, Brian! How many books do you read a day?
@HeroicBrian9 жыл бұрын
Graziela Machado If all I'm doing is reading that day I can get thru 1-2 depending on length/density. Most days I do a Note (PDF + MP3 + TV) so I only have 2-4 hours to read tho!

Does DIspenza point to evidence that mental rehearsal helps? In Weisman's "59 seconds", Weisman cites research saying that mental rehearsal often becomes a substitute for actually doing the task that is rehearsed. I haven't followed those citations, and I don't know if Dispenza follows the research, but I'm inclined to ignore someone who seems unaware of relevant research.

+Tim Freeman I still need to read Weisman but pretty sure he references Oettingen! brianjohnson.me/philosophers-notes/rethinking-positive-thinking/ Optimize is now free! Sign up/tell your friends! www.optimize.me

Thanks for the pointer. I'll have a look. And to make it clear: Weisman concludes that mental rehearsal might be productive or counterproductive depending on exactly how you do it. My previous comment might be read to imply that none of them appear to work, and that's not true. The web page you cited and wrote about Oettingen's work seems very familiar after reading Weisman, so maybe there's a consensus about what works.
@HeroicBrian9 жыл бұрын
+Tim Freeman Yep. And Oettingen is the one who did the bulk of the research other psychologists reference. Optimize is now free! Sign up/tell your friends! www.optimize.me
