Thanks for this, we were out kayaking and did not see the full pod (they were further out toward Robben Island), but a young whale ventured out to the coast and did a full breach out the water near our boats. Once in a lifetime experience.

Ha! This is insane. I was in a Zodiac boat and we were kinda trapped inside this pod. We turned of the motor when we saw the first and then so many extra came. Finally when the pod was away we turned on our engine again and went back to the shore. It was amazing and terrifying at the same time. So lucky to find this footage.

Hi Kieran. Brilliant video. Just a pity that youtube's codec pixelates very busy ocean shots. I made a video last week of surfers with the drone, and the finished video file was crisp and detailed, but once uploaded, youtube does something with it. THinking of rather uploading my videos to vimeo, it's just that cost tho....
@kdonnellyza8 жыл бұрын
Martin Coetzee thanks Martin. It is a pity, but I don't think it detracts too much from the spectacle of the content. Vimeo is certainly a viable option in terms of compression but the social reach just isn't the same.

Great video Kieran. Did you use a filter? Which one? Do you mind sharing what editing software are you using?
@kdonnellyza8 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, no filter, just made sure the sun wasn't blowing out any of the shots. I used Adobe Premiere Pro CC for this and for all my other edits - sometimes I run GoPro footage through GoPro Studio to remove the fisheye (if I need it to look more classy), and I often use Adobe After Effects CC for more advanced transitions, keyframing or animations than Premiere allows you to do. For instance, the animation that I used for the Sky Reel logo at the end of this video was done in After Effects.

Good job! What drone do you have exactly? What range can you get in meters?
@kdonnellyza8 жыл бұрын
Matthew Beckett it's a Phantom 4. This was 1900m out from shore and every now and then I would lose signal, but theoretically in an open area with no electromagnetic interference you should get 5km line of sight range

Looks idyllic......until you realise they are only a short distance away from the Moullie Point pump station from which the City of Cape Town is allowing millions of litres of untreated sewage to be pumped into Table Bay via a pipe which discharges a few hundred meters off shore.
