Episode description:
Mental health is a hot topic these days, especially considering the current COVID-19 pandemic, and the enforced social separation and isolation many of us have experienced over the past several months. Even though things are starting to open in many places, we all are facing a world which is dramatically different to the one we knew before the pandemic-so many things are uncertain, which only exacerbates our collective mental distress.
Thankfully, as I discuss in this week’s blog and podcast with world-renowned psychiatrist, brain specialist and best-selling author Dr. Daniel Amen, there are ways we can take our mental and brain health into our own hands! The human brain is remarkably resilient: over time we can heal our minds and find freedom, purpose and renewal in an imperfect world.
Indeed, Dr. Amen has spent his professional life witnessing this resiliency. As he describes in his excellent new book, The End of Mental Illness: How Neuroscience Is Transforming Psychiatry and Helping Prevent or Reverse Mood and Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Addictions, PTSD, Psychosis, Personality Disorders, and More, the technological advances in the field of neuroscience have huge strides in our understanding of the brain and what mental distress looks like on a biological level. Rather than just look at someone’s symptoms and giving them a “pill for every ill”, when we take someone’s whole story into account and look at their brain using the latest neuroscientific technology, we can give them practical and powerful tips to find healing on both a mental and physical level.

Helped me so much a mother with one particular child. This young man is now achieving all his goals in studies, choice of school and career path. So grateful God led me to each of these individuals and their research.

To help prevent severe covid, treat/prevent the 11 major risk factors that steal your mind: inflammation, not enough omega 3s, diabetes, obesity, brain healthy diet, lots of probiotics/good gut health, as your weight & size goes up, the size & function of your brain goes down (dont be a dinosaur), etc. Thank you, Dr. Amen for your incredible work. My family is tremendously grateful to you! We need to go to your clinic. 💖🙏🏼🕊️

I hope you also look into John Bergman, a chiropractor in California. He has many of the same views in that so many illnesses are just labeled as " unknown reasons " but, as it turns out, are totally treatable. Glenn

I'm a caseworker and so sad to see so many children and people just medicated their whole lives and living on ssi because they didn't know they could get better. God Bless the both of you. I pray that our healthcare system and government would truly start to care about people and do what needs to be done to actually help them.

I have had Bipolar disorder for years undiagnosed. I wish Dr. Amen had a clinic in Every state. I live in Utah. I know my brain is broken and I want to fix it but spect is not in Utah so I remain a guessing game. On medication that is not even for Bipolar II but every other medication they put me on made me suicidal or homicidal. I don't trust psychiatrists one good me addicted to Klonopin. In the end, it was my long time primary care provider who diagnosed me correctly when I was 52.

Absolutely agree with all your great work!!I would like to talk on behalf of a large majority of people like me though.I would love to take all of the wonderful advice on board but I do not have the finances to do so and this can be such a frustration when you know you need help but the only help I'd get for free would be from Government psychiatrists!!I have used all the advice I can use ie: diet and watching negative self talk but that's as far as I can go!!

Doing the "right" thing has nothing to do with Love. There is no such thing as the "right" thing. Whatever the "right" thing is to which you are referring is solely an opinion. Judging anyone or anything is never Loving. Love is everything and all things, there is no good and bad in Love. How could anything that is love be one or the other, is everything. You both are so very close but still missing a key component. The brain injury I recovered from is proud positive.

Brain is the organ of the human body. likewise, Mind is the Organ of the human soul. just I have a question? when people get sick emotionally or when they get sick mentally I am not sure their thought is functioning normal or not my question is this problem is related with our soul or brain? Thanks
