I know you have a right to have your own thoughts/opinions about the “skinwalker” topic. I am Navajo and I grew up with a lot of experiences with skinwalker as well as being witchcraft also known as “gushie” in Navajo. A skinwalker is not a fantasy to many natives that have experienced them. They are very powerful in the evil way. In the Navajo culture we have a beauty way, as well as an evil way. Skinwalkers ted to feed off of fear. Jenna makes comments about just being normal and watching Netflix but that’s not reality. People that become skinwalkers don’t ever live or ever go back to their normal life before. They hurt people whether that can be physically, emotionally, spiritually and some times even death. I would give a few examples of my family’s experience which are all very personal. Each encounter that we’ve had, we had to see a medicine for protection healing through ceremonies. Don’t get me wrong, no one can just wake up one day and become a medicine man. Medicine men are the most protective people in our culture. They can fix anything a skinwalker or person is trying to do. They can reverse it, and most importantly heal you. When I was a year old, I would have up to 4 seizures a day sometimes more. I was constantly getting sick with bronchitis, etc. My Shíma (mother in Navajo) had to drop out of college and quit her work because of how serious this was. Doctors didn’t know why I was having seizures, all they could do was put me on several different medications no baby should be taking. One day my Shíma couldn’t handle seeing me not being able to hold myself up because of the drugs. Her, my grandma and my dad took me to see 4 different medicine men. Normally you’ll be able to go to one for one visit but Whatever was happening to me was very powerful. I had to have 4 different and separate ceremonies. My parents told me stories of hearing growling outside the hogan or something walking on the hogan roof. Every time they heard something, the medicine men would sing louder and stronger not giving whatever, whoever it was what they wanted. I had to drink herb medicine. An herb used to drink to heal the insides of a body. My parents had to go outside in middle of the night to shoot a shotgun in the air to scare away whoever was causing this. The medicine man told my parents not to turn around because whoever was doing this was standing right behind them. He told them not to be scared. Told them to be angry and to get them out. My last ceremony was called a lightning way, the medicine did a sand painting which my Shíma tells me to this day was beautiful. After he sang the last song, he swept away the sand painting. Ever since that day I have never had another seizure again. I am 22 years old now. The Navajo culture is very beautiful. We don’t feel scared or threatened by skinwalkers. A long time ago skinwalkers were once spiritual protectors. When the white men would raid the villages, they would scare them off in whatever way that was. Over time they began to do evil things to families. I have many more stories. It is all caused by jealousy. They get jealous of a family that is happy, strong, wealthy (which doesn’t mean money.) it means having their own land, livestock, etc. the things a family owns. From what I know by my teachings, skinwalkers have to kill a family member in order to become one. In the Navajo culture, you are NOT supposed to whistle at night. Because that is the only time they are out doing stuff is only at night. They communicate through fire and as well as whistling. I have a lot to say but I’ve been going on long enough. All I can say is be respectful of the Navajo and other Native Americans culture and our beliefs. A’hee’é (Thank you)

I’m a Navajo and I just wanted to tell a story of when I had my first experience. I’ve spent most of my childhood at my grandmas house on the reservation and I do have many more stories that are more terrifying. I was raised in Colorado til about 4 yrs old due to personal circumstances with my dads side of the family we moved back down to New Mexico. I was sad I had to leave my friends and my PlayStation 1 with crash bandicoot and a place I called home. we moved back and fourth from my moms families house to my dads families house and slowly I got used to where we living. I remember as young kid thinking how cool it was to walk around my grandmas land it was beautiful and it still is. There I was a kid raised in Colorado now being raised in New Mexico and I was a grandma’s and grandpa’s boy. They taught me so much and I respect them both for teaching me the ways of being a simple man, human being, and a Navajo. I was growing up fast and by the time I was 8 yrs old I had my first experience and it shook me to the core. I was sleeping at grandmas house and I woke up to my grandma panicking looking for my grandpas gun which was a 12g shotgun. I also saw my uncles who were there blocking the doors and listening and had my grandpas revolver and a flashlight in hand. I watched my grandma blessed my grandpa and my uncles to give them strength because she was healer or medicine woman. They went out and told my grandma not to open the door until they find out who’s outside then my grandma locked the door behind them and held me close and told me that’s someone was outside yelling and knocking on the doors and windows when I was asleep. We were waiting and suddenly we heard the door knob twisting and turning as if someone was trying to get into the house and my grandpa heard my grandma yelling for him and he came running and said in Navajo “there it is!” Then they started shooting and they chased it across a field and into the trees until it disappeared. They came back inside and my grandma blessed them again. My grandpa said it was a old man that had a hunchback and wore a Navajo blanket with its face painted and wore a skull on its head. And my grandma gasp and my uncles said they would keep watch and stay up. We went to sleep and the next day my uncles said that was a crazy night that they would never forget they said the person was running on four legs then it got scared because they were close so it used the blanket it was wearing to fly like a bird into the trees. Hearing this as a kid scared me and I had developed a fear of the dark. Throughout the time I’ve spent at my grandmas house I found bravery and strength because when I got older my uncles would take me outside with them to hold the flashlight. I remember the first time I had to go outside my grandpa was getting old and told me to be strong and Said that this is life out here on the Rez and I had face my fear and help my uncles chase many different things away. I couldn’t breathe or stop shaking or my mind would play tricks on me in the darkness. But I got used to it now that I’m older I know that there is a fine line between good and evil and that’s where we live. To this day I keep myself safe with the teachings I learned from grandparents.

I have watched this particular video so many times. I loved the skinwalker stories and the reaction of both of them. But I also picked up something subtle like for instance, at 39:27, Jenna realized it's almost 40 minutes in and Julien hasn't mentioned any sponsors, so she uses the mouse to probably show the time stamp or something on the screen, but Julien didn't take the hint at the time. Then at 40:30, she turned to Cermit saying something with the ending "...you probably ask it for food huh", to hope Julien would use it to segway into "the Farmer's dog" ad. But Julien still didn't take it. So then she had to verbally remind him so he doesn't forget entirely about it. It was just so fun and interesting to see the way they express and interact through out the podcast.

But the Navajo legend- don’t say the name. Try not to think about it, if at all possible. My grandmother used to tell me the stories, and I thought they were silly, until I finally visited a reservation. So about a year or year and a half ago I was seeing this guy. We kinda lost the spark a few weeks into it and I told him (in person over coffee) that I just wasn’t interested in pursuing a relationship with him and that we shouldn’t see each other anymore. He said he understood, and things like this happen sometimes, and he was glad I told him in person (let alone at all because people ghost). So about a month after we stopped talking at like 7pm I was home alone with my daughter (about 1.5 at the time) waiting on food to be delivered. Someone rang the doorbell and me being stupid assuming it was the food I opened the door. It was the guy I broke it off with and I told him to leave. He said he didn’t want to leave. I told him I was going to call the police if he didn’t leave my property. He started to get closer to the door and as I went to close it he tried to force entry. Out of pure rage and mom strength I’m guessing, I was able to close the door on him and lock both locks. I ran to the back and side door as fast as I could and locked every lock including the “stay bar” and grabbed my phone and went to continue to lock the windows. I called 9-1-1 and the whole time he was SCREAMING at me on my front lawn shit like “you don’t get to leave me” “I choose when things end” “you’re such a bitch”. As he was screaming my food arrived and I guess he thought it was the cops and he ran off. I’ve never hugged a grubhub driver before but I think this guy saved my life. He even waited with me (in his car parked in the driveway) until the cops arrived. The cops got there and I told them where he went and while one cop went to chase him down another searched his car. They found a knife and rope and Xanax in his book bag in the car. He wanted to take me or something. I threw up when they told me what they found in his car. I called a few of my male friends and a few of my female mom friends to stay with me in case anything happened because I was so afraid. He’s been charged with stalking, intent to commit bodily harm, child endangerment, intent to harm the welfare of a child, and trespassing. He won’t be out of jail for 16 years.

_Peachy_ Avacados_ some sort.. he told me when he was a little boy he and his brothers were outside playing. It was night and it was so dark out but he said that the moon was so bright that he could see through the darkness. He and his brothers were playing with a dog (they thought) and when my great grandmother called them to come in to shower and go to sleep they were running towards the house, the dog was chasing them. When the dog got closer to the house the dogs head turned into a triangle shape head and the dog just stood there in silence as they were just staring at this animal. The dog then backed away slowly and disappeared. It still gives me chills when I think about it

I think that the wrost thing about skinwalkers is that you TRUST them. Like, It's your dog. It's your mom. You know? Like, dude. You can tell that something it's wrong but at the same time it's like "What's wrong mom?". You don't suspect it's something else until it does something REALLY out of character. So creepy.

So one night, in my neighborhood, I was gettin out of the shower and getting ready for bed when suddenly I heard a puppy crying. And that’s not too abnormal in my neighborhood, because my neighbors are always getting new puppies. But this one sounded distressed. And as I was listening, it got extremely distorted and sounded more gravely. I rushed downstairs and flung opened the front door and ran out, trying to find the puppy in need. It was silence. I went back in to my mom asking me what I was doing. I told her and she proceeded to scold me, saying people are always imitating animal noises to lure people out of their homes to kidnap them. Now my mom grew up downtown so I assumed she was just being as cautious as she was when she was younger, but now that I know that her father was part Native American, I believe she knew exactly what it was. My mother is a blessing 😂

I’ve been reading through these comments, and I read in someone’s story that owls, specifically white owls, are said to be evil and follow you around as a death omen. My best friend is part Native American, and when we were sixteen we were out walking home from a friends, and we saw an owl on a phone line. I was really excited because I’m a little Wisconsin girl who rarely sees any birds outside of robins and little sparrows. But my best friend grabbed my arm and started walking really fast back home, and I heard her mumble under her breath, “fucking witch,” and I was quite a bit less excited then.

My dad is a Native shaman, he smudges our house nearly everyday to keep away the bad spirits. We have had the same dreams multiple times. One time I woke up screaming being pulled under my bed, I went to my dad crying asking what it meant. He told me the sweater I usually wear to bed was his cousins who died in a tragic way and was coming to get it back. We are taught in western culture not believe in spirits and these creatures. We are not alone in this never ending universe, keep some tobacco and sage in a bag in your room and don't try to communicate with the darkness. Also know that your ancestors are always protecting you and watching out for you, you can speak to them for protection

When I was 22 and still living with my parents I as a major pot head, but I couldn't smoke in the house. So most nights I spent at least a few hours in the shed just blazing and watching KZbin videos on my phone. It was pretty chill. Until one night when I happened to be listening to scary stories from Reddit, and in the pause between videos I heard this high-pitched sort of braying, kinda far off, but clear as day. Like a donkey with a warble filter on it's voice. I had no idea what it could be, but it sounded big, and it sounded stressed. I turned my light off, and sat in the dark listening as whatever it was started getting closer. And closer. Almost like it was making a B-line right for me in my tiny shelter. Keep in mind that I was pretty stoned at this point, and already freaked out from the stories I'd been listening to. So I called my mom. She had been sleeping but answered after a few rings. I told her in panicked whispers that I was in the shed, and there was something outside. And like the trooper she is, she told me she'd be out in just minute. Meanwhile the thing had gotten so close I could hear its footsteps as it approached, and then passed my hiding place. My mom reached me about 20 seconds later, and by then I was having a full on panic attack. She'd brought the bright flashlight, and shone it towards the sounds as we walked back to the house. It was a fucking deer. A young foal that'd been separated from the rest of the herd we had seen the day before. It was just a lost baby that was probably more scared than I was.

I'm convinced we have a skinwalker living in our small woods in front of our house. We found a fox in our woods maybe 2 years ago. We find it all the time since then. It's only one, though. It often barks really early in the morning, maybe 3 am to 5 am. It sounds really odd, though. It walked right up to me one day, maybe 10 feet away. It's ears looked way too big for its head. Like the ears were three times the size of its head. Most foxes and wild animals wouldn't just walk up to you like that. I was just sitting on my porch at the time. It kept staring at me. I was already nervous cause there was a wild animal close to me, but the staring was really unnerving. I threw a few rocks at it from the bottom of my porch. It dodged all the rocks while looking me in the eyes. I stopped throwing them. The fox began to come towards me. I bulleted to the door, almost slamming it shut when I heard a voice like my little brother's yelling "No!" It wouldn't have freaked me out so much if I wasn't home alone, and if my brother's voice wasn't two octaves too low.

I'm only doing this because I am a Navajo which is is Native American tribe and have some dope insight on our traditions and culture. It's pronounced din-eh, btw lol. But omg skinwalkers are so common at home! I grew up on the Navajo Reservation and I believe I was 16, a rebellious teenager. I was in my room and tried to look for something to wear for this country western dance. I dug deep into the back of my closets and found a stick. It was black, it had a real eagle claw at the end, red white and grew beadwork done all the way down the side. Without you touching it I told my mom and she called the medicine man (in our culture he gets rid of the bad spirits and prays for your well being) he comes over and clears the room. He came out minutes later, stick in his hand and said he couldn't break it. We tried burning it and took hours to destroy. That night, I was asleep and I just remember seeing my room from my door view, in my dream. Perfect view of me sleeping. I'm walking closer to my body and the room begins to be engulfed in black smoke and you see me wake up but not moving. I snap back into my body and I realized I'm in sleep paralysis and this skinwalkers was coming back for what he left. My view I haf was the view of the skinwalkers in my fucking room! My dream ended with him leaving and I woke up to sunlight, crying uncontrollably and sweating. My mom came in and realized I has an Ash mark on my forehead. in a panic called the medicine man and he then comes back and we then planned a prayer meeting (tee-pee meeting) for me it our loved ones. I was giving eagle feathers and dreamcatchers that have been prayed over and I haven't had a dream or come in contact with a skinwalkers ever again.

I was looking for this comment. On Halloween in like 3rd grade our teacher read some scary stories out of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and I was fine until she read the one about the Wendigo. It was a shortened version of Algernon Blackwood's novella called The Wendigo. It has haunted my nightmares ever since then. In college I took a class on monsters in literature and I chose the Wendigo to do my final paper on trying to get some kind of closure but it's still the monster that scares me the most.

When I was 9-10 years old I had an “imaginary friend” named Kelly. Apparently she was a little girl with long, curly brown hair and a blue dress. I would play with her, but at night I would always try to sleep with my mom because “Kelly was keeping me awake.” One night, my mom woke up in a sleep paralysis state and felt a dark, evil spirit walking upstairs toward our bedrooms. All she could do was pray and she fell back asleep. The next morning she ran into my room and asked me why I never come to her room like usual. I replied, “Kelly wouldn’t let me out. She’s good, but her grandpa is very bad. She said I have to stay away from him.” Btw, almost 30 years later and I still have absolutely NO recollection of Kelly or any incidents involving her. But my mom, sister, and stepdad ALL confirmed the Kelly stories and that I played with her and talked about her constantly. The only thing I remember from that 12-18 months is going to school and always being afraid at night.

my youngest memory was when i was 3 years old & my moms car broke down & it was raining, & some woman pulled over & wanted to take us home. my mom took her offer but was scared & nervous the whole time. i remember sitting in the back with my mom & she was holding me tight & the woman kept asking me questions. she ended up not being evil & actually took us home & also got us food. god bless that woman!!!!

lol my youngest memory is the reason my family moved from mexico to texas .i just remember my older sister being on my moms laptop and i looked out the window and i saw my mom running to the gates trying to close and lock them while hearing the sounds of gunshots. turns out it was just some drunk in the plaza being stupid(my town was very small so everyone could hear it)

Mini skinwalker story: (Story that happened to my grandma) So my grandma is Navajo and lives on the reservation. Typically, my grandma gets up before the sun. She’ll make her morning coffee and sit at the kitchen table to look outside. One day she told me that she woke up early, as usual, to make her coffee and sat at the table. And while she was enjoying her coffee she saw our dogs (we had 5 at the time) running which would be normal. She quickly realized they were running from something. The sheepdogs were running from a larger, black dog, running on its hind legs like a human but not.

I’m Navajo. Like my family all currently live on the Navajo Rez. Deep out in the desert by the four corners monument, miles away from any main highways. The term skinwalker originated from the Navajo culture. It’s not debated amongst actively traditional Navajo people. A skin walker is just a person who’s murdered someone in their family in order to gain the ability to leave your physical body and use your spirit for evil intentions, including possessing animals to do evil acts against a specific person or family. My mother was a teacher in Shiprock, NM for almost 35 years. She has thousands of former students. Among them, are tribal police officers. One of these tribal officers told her a story that still baffles him. When you hear him tell the story you can see in his eyes truth and fear. He responded to a call in a rural area on the Rez in NM. When he arrived there were slashes tearing through the front door and the elderly woman in the house shouted at him through the door to go around back. He drew his weapon. When he rounded the corner he saw a bear-like figure go from being on all fours to standing on two feet and use its arms to climb over the fence. All of my friends, and family members have experienced terrifying encounters like this. The scariest part for a traditional Navajo is not just running into a skinwalker but knowing that someone intends you harm and is sending evil your way.

Also you should know it’s HIGHLY taboo to whistle at night in the Navajo culture. It’s believed you’re calling bad spirits and skinwalkers to you.

Also, running alongside a moving vehicle in the desert at night is a classic skinwalker story. I have heard a hundred different versions of that exact same story. All told by different people in different areas surrounding the Navajo nation. Coyotes are an omen of bad luck in the Navajo culture. It has to do with the coyotes role in our creation story. Seeing one is believed to be bad luck.

I've heard that skin-walkers are people who dedicated themselves to the witchery way. They blacken their souls to invite entities from first world. Eventually they'll kill a close family member to completely blacken their soul and spirit to thus make their bodies inviting to these first world creatures who hate the light because first world is pitch black. I've heard both Coyotes were very much the same way when they made their way from first world. I've heard that Coyote avoids skin-walkers as much as possible for fear of giving them a Coyote skin.

Nowadays I wouldn't even pick up a woman and a child. People are crazy. I sure AF wouldn't take a ride from anyone even a woman and a child. I've heard too many terrifying attempts at human trafficking abductions. A lot of them use women to get women because women let their guard down easier with other women. People are so messed up. I used to pick up other women to give them a ride, but i won't anymore. It's sad that bad people make it unsafe to do nice things for people.

If a woman is getting used by a trafficker to lure other women, she needs help even more than you would. She might be getting blackmailed and need you to contact the police for her...I would definitely recommend, if you are a woman, helping other women especially women with children. Take Andrea Dworkin's advice. This is what I do. The last time I did, there was an older woman (70s?) sitting outside the health food store after dark with all her food bags. It was late and the store was almost closed. I was getting out of my car when I saw her ask a man for a ride, who just said "nope sorry" without a shred of remorse. F*king a*hole...I knew he wouldn't help a woman unless she was YOUNG (and hot). So apparently she was supposed to get a ride from family but now they had flaked on her! She used ebt to buy food and didn't have enough for even an uber. God! She was a poor old lady who just needed a ride only a few miles away! I gave her a ride back to her home, then drove back to the store to shop. She was a very nice, personable, and grateful person. It was such a small thing on my part...but to think that poor woman could have been out there for hours with nobody having the conscience to just do a small favor for a senior because she's a woman and she's not sexy. That will be me one day. I do not look forward to the way people will treat me. If you're a woman, you're disposable and nobody cares.
