There's one thing to keep in mind about B-12 supplements - the specific form of the vitamin that's used. A common form is _cyanocobalamin_, and some people are allergic to it. I found out the hard way - after three days of fairly severe hives my research showed the supplement I'd just begun taking was the likely culprit. I stopped taking it and within two days the rashes were completely gone. I'm not suggesting B-12 supplements should be avoided, just that either cyanocobalamin should be avoided or that at least if you take that form and begin to develop a rash you'll know to see if stopping the supplement resolves it. For vegans like myself, the best natural sources are fortified cereals (which is probably what kept me from suffering from pernicious anemia), nutritional yeast (I need to eat more of it) and fortified non-dairy milks such as (soy, almond, oat, etc.).

Thank you for all the info you provide. How to eliminate parietal cell antibodies for B12? I have high levels of it and take sub-lingual B12 spray to avoid it passing thru stomach. Any nutritional info to reduce these antibodies?

Parietal cells could indicate pernicious anaemia , if you were diagnosed with PA just be aware that the neurological and cognitive symptoms may persist by just using the B12 spray as many people with PA will confirm . If you have had a diagnosis and notice these symptoms , or you have them and they are getting progressively worse (which usually happens slowly over time ) please speak to your Gp about injections . There’s a group called pernicious anaemia B12 deficiency on face book run by Pat Kornic with additional advice should you need it , there’s so much information there that a lot doctors aren’t aware of in the treatment of pernicious anaemia . (I honestly don’t think there have been enough large scale studies done on the sprays and sublinguals for long term efficiency if you have antibodies ) did your Gp advise you to take digestive enzymes or HCL with pepsin due to low Stomache acid . This happens due to parietal cells being damaged ( parietal Cellls produce stomache acid )

So I’m taking 5000mcg Sublingual liquid B-12 a day. I’m 63 and my husband is 59. Is that too much? That’s the directions on the bottle. Thank you

It is a little much, 2000 mcg Cyanocobaline once a week should be enough or like 1000 mcg twice

Over 65 years old the daily intake is 1000mcg (He showed it in another video). That is as long as there is no pre-existing severe deficiency. Taking 5000mcg will never harm you because any extra is excreted via urine.

I have been supplementing with methylcobalamin 1 mg sublingual first thing in the morning every day for 10 months now yet my test result for serum b12 came back lower than before supplementing, at 230. (Before was 260). What can I do to help with absorption? I've quit coffee and I don't take any antacids or anything. My folate was 28. MCV 98.

How about these online mail-in blood tests for B12 or other types of lab testing. Are the "consumer friendly" an affordable level of those worth using? Have they been tested? Are they more or less reliable than supplement manufacturing?

Are there no hazards of excess consumption of vitamin B12 or why is there no warning about it? I started vitamin B12 supplements on self diagnosis of deficiency, but a blood test within months of the decision came back with elevated vitamin B12. The cause of my troubles (painful and freezing feet) has yet to be determined, and in these clips I understand that there’s a chance I am deficient in the functional form of vitamin B12 despite the elevated result. Unfortunately I am in a new environment and unable to get an alternative test with the urgency it deserves. That’s why I wish I knew about the potential outcomes of over supplementation so I can evaluate the option of getting back on supplements, this time with the appropriate supplement, while I make arrangements for the correct test. Please address the consequences of too much B12 in blood, with any applicable qualifications since you have made the point that there’s a functional form and a separate form of the vitamin. I even wonder why there just wouldn’t be a different name for each, to negate prospects of misdiagnosis.

Good video except for stating that meat eaters aren’t as healthy as non meat eaters . But I kind of expect that from both sides of the meat/ plant promoters , both sides claim to have the same benefits , both sighting studies . Both promoting health which is the end goal . I have pernicious anaemia , so technically could be a vegan , but in reality my body functions better with meat, , as I don’t do well with grains , and so many vegetables give me digestive problems or set off arthritic like pains in my joints . Not sure if it’s the collagen in meat , the high vitamin A , or just the fact that meat and animal protein contains so many essential nutrients in a 100g serving that I need to eat less overall which lessens the digestive issues. My mental clarity is sharper as well and no more anxiety and depression. Even with the regular B12 injections I have if I exclude animal protein all my “b12” mood, brain related issues return, so I honestly think it’s more than just the B12 in the meat that some people like me need . I think the raw liver they used in the early days to treat PA , has much more in it than just b12 that saved people’s lives

Sounds like the problem is with digesting healthy plant foods. If you want to tackle that, do check out 'Fiber Fueled' and 'The Fiber Fueled Cookbook'. You may be able to increase your tolerance of vegetables and even wheat if you go slow (see those books for details). Being vegan or not is not as essential as getting enough vegetables, whole grains and beans.
