I loved the character of Lucas that Alfonso Moreno created in S6. The writers now have turned him into basically a wimp that lets Elizabeth walk all over him. And then there's Elizabeth who just seems selfish and doesn't care what he wants and tells Rosemary he's a dreamer like its a bad thing. The entire problem is they're not communicating with each other and Elizabeth seems more interested in Rosemary and Nathan's feelings than she is with Lucas's. Last night show was so disappointing and honestly I've enjoyed very little of S10.

I hate the writing this season. So simplistic and empty. It started for me with the scene with Faith and the bandit. She doesn’t seem surprised or alarmed . Even what she says is empty and silly. The plots of each episode are not developed at all the way they used to be. There have not had one good scene with E & L. I wonder if the poster for the season is the hint that this season is focused on her and not on them. I am tired of her emotions being the focus. It needs to be richer in dialogue and in their relationship- so frustrating

Really good insight to yesterday's show, ladies. I don't want to be rude, but it almost seems that the writer who wrote the scenes for Elizabeth & Lucas hasn't watched Season 6- 9. I felt like Lucas & Elizabeth didn't seem as smitten with each other as they were before. As for Rosemary, Lee & the baby....they waited for so long to give them a baby that this episode was too overdone. I hope the next episodes are better.

The foundation of their relationship has been broken down. Lucas has been beaten into submission. It's an entirely different relationship than where we left off at the proposal. I am having such a hard time wanting to even watch. The new show runner clearly has her own agenda unraveling all the progress made in prior seasons. What has happened to our beloved characters?

Why in the world would Erin be ok with the way they are writing her character and her whole relationship with Lucas? Seems like she should have some say in it. There hasn’t been anything even close to the “what the heck” kiss this season. The touching, close moments have been very rare. The story arcs and writing have been awful. It’s like none of the writers have an inkling how to write romance or develop relationships. I was also furious with the “never be home” comment and her subsequent conversation with Rosemary. I don’t know if it is the writing or editing, but most of the scenes are cut short or meaningless. Also, I do not find the Bill storyline compelling and hate that they are wasting time on Madeline. So angry!

Yes 5 episodes & not one decent kiss .the 2 or 3 kisses I’ve seen are just little pecks on the lips . The kisses they used to share were beautiful & even just outside when they met. What happened?????

Div that is a great point about Elizabeth and Rosemary overkill. But I don’t see anything that Elizabeth is doing for Lucas at all. What efforts is she making for him? And she is upset about moving away from Rosemary? How about that Lucas is her home??

I know that you are just on episode 5 here but as we all know your hopes have been quashed and we are now at the finale. In my opinion this has not been season 10. It is season 1 of an entirely different show from what I knew. Seasons 1-9 are a beautifully written and crafted show of characters. 10 is a complete rewrite of storyline and characters. I feel like the only characters that stayed the same are Henry and the kids. All the other main characters are unrecognizable. The show I knew does not exist.

I agree with so much of what has been said here, both your video and the comments. I’m hopeful the Lucabeth story will get back on track in the next episode, because we all really know and love this special couple, and we want to keep them true to themselves. The last thing we need right now is a repeat of all the angst in season 8. I really struggle to watch that season.

Elizabeth needs to realize there's two people in the relationship! She should realize Lucas might find it awkward living in her house and sharing hers and Jacks bed! They need a conversation about little Jack and what expectations she has for the relationship between Lucas and little Jack.

I am all for couples having obstacles and angst and challenges to overcome and grow. I want that for Lucas and Elizabeth to see angst and so on but the scenes last night could of been better and in depth. It was like Lucas thoughts and future plans don't matter. To just dismiss as a grand gesture is so wrong. The man who loves you and starting a marriage soon wants to build a home for them etc. Lucas deserves so much more. He is the best the way he has been and is!!!

100% bang on. You covered all the frustrations and the writing none sense. I started watching this show at season 6 bc Lucas. Never bothered going back to previous ones. What we all liked was his confidence/mysterious & different . Had an edge to him. It Made him so attractive. Now, he absolutely needs to man up. The “I would give you the world” and “I’m sorry” are getting boring.

Rosmary is in total control of Elizabeth's life. She was afraid that Lucas would take her away then she wouldnt have any control. And Nathan is becoming the same thing. He and Rosemary have to approve or disapprove of every aspect of Elizabeth's life. And Rosemary plants things in her mind to scare her like when she said she that Luccas was her 'safe" choice. ... Totally Rosemary!!!

Do you think Elizabeth is on the verge of thinking or scared that remaining last bits of Jack will be gone or something. Leading up to the wedding the big questions and situation are coming up. Jack the father to LJ. Lucas will be a father too. Changing surname from Thornton to Bouchard (not having Jack's name). Not wanting to leave her home... She did share with Jack. She hesitated saying 'our home' to Lucas imo. She just dismissed his thoughtful gesture for their future as it dont matter. Elizabeth loves Lucas no doubt but i feel like maybe some of jack grief has opened up in letting the last bits go... And talking about him too. Lucas understand but he deserves more!!

Speaking of ASSUMING...We have been asked to ASSUME that Mei and Nathan after a whole season of attraction decided (in between seasons) that they are not right for each other. They had us ASSUME that Molly no longer cares for Bill. (between seasons). We are to ASSUME that Faith and Nathan had something happen between them (between seasons) but we don't know exactly what. The whole S 10 so far is all about ASSUMPTION. And that is not enjoyable as fans. We want to see the progression. With Lucas and Elizabeth it's been 5 years of progression. Until now.

Excellent Podcast Ladies!!! I was so disappointed with Episode 5!!! Tired of the interactions between Nathan and Elizabeth not necessary and they don’t make sense! Ugh!!! Is it now a character flaw to want to build a new home for Elizabeth and LJ? She never acknowledges his feelings! It drives me crazy! I really believe that Lucas needs to speak up not just give in every time. Patience is a virtue but it’s time for him to know his own self worth! Really hoping the writers turn this around…I am sure there is a plan. Fingers crossed!

Agree, with how they are portraying Lucas this season, just very disappointing. Elizabeth is acting very selfish and it’s causing me to not like her this season. Fast forward a few episodes and now it seems like the triangle maybe back, it’s just exhausting. They are bringing back her grieving after we went through seasons of that, then she got to a place where she took off her ring declared her love for Lucas and last season was moving forward only for the writers to make it all go away this season. I just don’t get it. Do they want people to get exhausted with that storyline and stop watching because I’m there. I canceled all upcoming recordings of the last four episodes, just not interested anymore and I needed to write it all down, now I feel better. So done with the show.

LOLOL!! 😂😂 Golly, the writing this season has been all over the place, weirdly disconnected from previous seasons, and overall disappointing, I do agree!! 😕 I still love the show and am having fun, but I sure hope there are lots of pleasant surprises in store to make up for the disappointments thus far!! I am so glad you gals addressed this episode. I am in full agreement with your thoughts on the issues that arose. I used to be a full on team Nathan fan, but was swayed over to Lucas (actually through this podcast). However this episode is not making me happy with the pairing. I guess the roller coaster of frustration and confusion is to keep fans coming back for more??? I honestly don’t know what to think. Like really? The Nathan and Elizabeth scene with the muffins could have totally been with Faith, like after a house call with the Coulters. Like really?!?! You ladies have done it again. I was hoping all day there would be a podcast from you because I was so annoyed last night. It’s like Lucas lost his backbone. Elizabeth seems to be wearing the pants in this relationship and it’s time for a shift back to basics. If she can spout off about all the reasons they can’t have a big house then he should give a little pushback of his own. When is he going to stand up to her. It’s like he’s afraid if he doesn’t agree with everything she wants, she’ll leave him. Aaaaggghhh! The conversations with Nathan have got to go. I think they are just giving the Nathan/Elizabeth fans a crumb to cling too. She needs to stop trying so hard to be his friend. She chose another so give it a rest and move on. The writers are so out there this season and twisting storylines around. I miss the intimate moments they had last season. The only things they discuss now are the guest list and cake. Lucas should have been upset when she said “It would never be my home.” And Elizabeth running to Rosemary to gossip about Lucas is completely out of character for her. She has always hated gossip. Jillian, your last note about Nathan and the muffins had me laughing out loud. It’s all good and I have decompressed. Thanks to you both once again for another great podcast. 😃

This season has been very disappointing in terms of Lucas and Elizabeth. Completely agree with your insights. The new show-runner/writer is dismantling what Lucas and Elizabeth worked through last season. Elizabeth’s expression while dancing with Lucas was ridiculous, especially if they were using it as an arc to their dance from Lucas’s first season. If so, this couple isn’t headed for the altar.

Yes, the proposal was beautiful. But, it seems that Lucas and Elizabeth are playing tag with not being as loving as they should towards each other. In season 9 in my opinion, it seemed Lucas wasn't acting as loving. In this season Elizabeth is acting that way. Looks like something happened to their onscreen chemistry. I'll keep watching. Does anyone know if the showrunner was/is team Nathan? I kind of get the feeling that they are backpedaling. It almost feels like when we were dealing with the triangle and how they are making sure she has these meaningful moments with Nathan. She hasn't had a very meaningful conversation with Lucas about what's going to happen when they get married. It seems the only characters that have a real storyline this season are Rosemary, Lee, and Bill, which is fine, but not at the cost of the rest of the characters. It seems like a lot of the characters have been put on the back burner. Even the Elizabeth and Lucas storyline seems to be on the back burner. I know there are more episodes left, but it seems with how they are writing things Elizabeth and Lucas have a lot to resolve before they get married. Nothing is really being addressed. It's all just these little tidbits of things. Lucas only seems to care about whatever Elizabeth wants. Elizabeth doesn't seem to care at all about what Lucas wants. This relationship is seeming more and more one sided. She was never like this with Jack. Am I wrong? Also, wasn't she excited when Jack was going to build her house? Lucas wants to build her a house and she's acting like it's the worst thing she's ever heard. That face she made when they were dancing was really upsetting. I understand she's gotten really close to Rosemary and Lee, but Lucas is going to become her family too. I am a little worried they might not go through with the wedding. Elizabeth doesn't seem ready.

Exactly what I have been feeling. It seems that the showrunner is definitely pro Nathan & is turning Lucas into a different person. I really depth that after Sundsy night's show. I love Lucas but he is not the same guy this year & almost is shoved to the background. If this was the showrunner in season 9 Nathan would have been the one proposing. Not happy with sesson 10. I hope its not too late to have better writing in season 11. 😢

I have loved this season and really enjoyed episode 5. I don't really know what everyone is complaining about. 🤭 Yes, so far E/L hasn't been as romantic as the past couple seasons, but they are busy working, planning a wedding, and helping friends. It's the season of life they're in. Elizabeth is still the main character. She's having more diverse storylines than just kissing Lucas onscreen. We're seeing more teaching, her helping RM during the baby shower/labor/delivery/post-partum. Helping Henry and her students, etc. Now it's hitting her that by marrying Lucas, she will have to let go of a lot of things that she built and she's processing it. It doesn't mean they won't work through it. But it does seem that they are not communicating well right now, and Elizabeth is not compromising much. Hopefully that will get better. Also as TN, I've accepted that they want them to remain friends, so they will continue to have friendly conversations together. That includes giving advice. Nathan has raised his niece since she was 4, and he is a Mountie -- I think he is qualified to give advice about discussing a deceased Mountie father. Do some things not make sense and fall in the HV black hole? Of course, but that's what happens when a show switches show runners every couple years and have multiple writers. It is what it is.

Fyi, I don't think they are breaking up or switching to Nathan. I noticed my fellow TN bringing that back up and they are just going to be disappointed. I would much rather Nathan have one-on-one screen time with his love interest (whoever that is), than more with Elizabeth. I agree that Lucas puts her on a pedestal. That needs to change. He needs to speak up for his wants and needs. He has said before that "you're all that matters", "you are my home", etc. And she doesn't reciprocate to that level. Neither one is necessarily wrong, but being a married couple is about compromising-- and right now she is definitely not.

Thank you ladies - Love your podcasts. So not happy with Episode 5. But so glad you did an interim podcast to address. 100% agree that there are way better ways to create angst and stuff to work through. It will sort - I have faith. I think Lucas will use his grand jestures and dreamer side to save the town this season. They will address the post wedding home and daddy issues and Elizabeth will compromise as appropriate and back her man. Lucas will "man up" for the town but maybe not as clearly with Elizabeth because it won't be needed - if that makes sense. She will check herself and realize that Lucas has needs too. Gosh I would love to see a scenario where E is reminded how much of a catch he is. Strong women are fabulous, so I would like E to stay that way - so she is ok to push for her needs too it just can't be ridiculous.

I love Henry, too!!! His character arc has been so satisfying!! Not gonna lie, I wholeheartedly disliked him at first! I remember jokingly calling him "Mr. Potter" throughout the first season or two because he just seemed so greedy and callous and reminded me of the Mr. Potter character from the movie It's A Wonderful Life, LOL. But now he's totally sympathetic and awesome, and Martin Cummins' portrayal of his evolution has been spot-on!! 👏👏 I would argue that he's the most interesting character on the show. And yes, definitely one of the bright spots of Season 10!! 🥰

Talk about confusing I just watched the interview with Niell Fearnly on the Office Hearties page........Apparently what we saw is not what the writing was about. They writers are so disconnected at what they are writing and what we're seeing........and her not wanting to leave the house doesn't have anything to do with Jack.

Continuity and character writing hasn't been true for this episode it lack romantic energy for the lead couple and it seemed like this episode had no foundation involving prior episodes saving Bill/Madelyn and Rosemary/mother issues, maybe this Ayala Glass should stick to comedy writing and why Lindsey Sturman would approve this episode is beyond me, I think Hallmark is playing towards team Nathan with these Elizabeth & Nathan scenes/promos to keep them or bring them back while frustrating everyone else, I'm hoping the powers that be(writers, directors, producers) see everyone's comments and view the aired episodes as fans see them not what they were aiming for. Great podcast Ladies

I usually give the shows a number of how much l liked them and usually they are from 8 to 10. However, so far this season hasn't gotten over 7 and this episode ranked a 6 or I would go down to a 4 to be honest. Horrible!!! Can it go lower before I laterally stop watching?
