I bought your kefir grains and started with a tablespoon daily. After 1 month I'm up to 1/2 cup. I'm experiencing flu like symptoms. Also, doing an orange juice fast, since they're in season. I'm looking forward to better days ahead. I'm glad I found your channel.

Hi Donna!! I recently purchased kefir grains to have kefir milk on hand for cheesemaking In a few months. (Our cow will freshen again and we will have wonderful, raw milk and I wanted to be ready 😀) I've never really researched kefir but I knew it was wonderful stuff. I've had kefir in the past, but never took time to care for it/research. I stumbled on your page and I'm so SO glad! I went through a healing crisis over the weekend after drinking one cup kefir daily for 5 days. I didn't realize that's what it was until a bathroom visit this morning. I will spare details here, haha, but it was bad😱😱. I had terrible headaches over the past two days and unexplained fatique. Then, after my horrifying bathroom visit, it made sense that I was coming out of a healing crisis. I am an avid kombucha Brewer (around 7-8 years) and drink about 2 quarts a day. I think if my body wasn't already "primed" with kombucha, it would have been a lot worse! I just wanted you to know that I appreciate you and the wealth of knowledge about this amazing drink and other cultured food you so freely give!! It is truly a miracle drink and I'm looking forward to reaping all the amazing benefits!!

Hi! WOW! you dove right in! 1 cup of kefir is SO powerful and loaded with good bacteria and different types then you've been getting from kombucha. Certainly not a bad thing to have that much right away, but as you can see the detox/healing crisis can be not so fun for a bit. My daughter did a similar detox like this years ago (she is hardcore haha) but for most I recommend doing it more slowly. Even a 1/4 cup or less of kefir in the beginning is a lot and you can gradually increase.

What’s the best way to deal with constipation when starting fermented foods? Also- how much should I be eating a day if I’m having symptoms?

Hi Donna,I have LPR and I would like to add kefir to help me with LPR. I also have leaky gut so last time I tried saurkraut I had phlegm in my throat. Any suggestions to what I can do to start fermented foods again ? Thank you Donna

They gave me two hospital infections using camera's so I was on antibiotics along time, just started Kefir 4 days ago and I'm hitting some waves so this was good to know.

Ive been on kefir and kombucha for a week now kefir everyday. And the diarrhea has come and is almost gone. I have this pressure in my mouth it's almost like nausea but I don't have stomach discomfort. Just wondering if this could be a detox symptom.

I have a question. When I drink kombucha my lips skin gets dried and peel off. The inside mouth feels also strange with a weird sensation. And I haven’t drunk too much, just a table spoon in half glass of water. I drink a lot of kefir but nothing similar never happened. Thanks.

A friend gave me a case of Arizona drinks, later I checked it out. And the first ingredient is corn syrup. I've been fermenting my food. If i fermented this drink, would it be safe to drink. I tried one of the drinks and it did ferment, but, is it healthy now?

Hi John, It depends on how you are fermenting it. I would avoid anything with corn syrup in it. When I talk about fermenting it is with LIVE active probiotic starter cultures. Fermenting is a broad word. All alcohol, pickled foods and more are technically fermented but that doesn't mean they are cultured or probiotic as most are made using high heat and vinegars and do not contain any live active probiotics.

Donna Schwenk I had some fermented lemonade left over and some kombucha tea I added them to one bottle of Arizona drink. I let it sit for 5 days. It's full of fizz, and tastes better then originally. But the sediment looks slightly different. And I don't want to drink corn syrup. So, i'm hoping the bacteria changed it. I'm definately a novice. But, I'm really getting in to the fermenting. My health has been poor for a long time, however I am doing somewhat better now. I believe it's mostly the fermenting that's helped me. Thanks for your help.
