Well my theory on Sin is that this whole adventure is just his version of a flood to cleanse all the old gods so he can put new ones in there place who would all be subservient to him. And the Exile herself/himself is just the most advanced prototype for this new demi-god puppet that would help Sin to take over the world or multi-verse or whatever. Since Kitava was completely unreasonable and so I guess immune to the beast's corruption I guess he had to get rid of Kitava somehow and he was willing to sacrifice all the other old gods in order to do that. Thus this act of Sin being a hero. But really he was just testing out how to use the gems in order to create a demi-god aka the Exile.

Nice theory, I didn't realize there where this many red flags.

Counterpoint: Sin takes the Dark Ember, the essence of the Beast, and uses its power to destroy Kitava. That is why we returned to Highgate in Act 9, and you can see Sin throw the Dark Ember into Kitava's heart at the conclusion of Act 10's fight. There is no more Ember, there can be no more Beast. Tasuni can never attempt to meld with Nightmare because the Dark Ember has been extinguished.
@KittenCatNoodle4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that is what Sin tells us, and he definitely throws the Ember into Kitava to destroy him. We have to trust Sin that the Beast is really contained entirely in that Ember. But Sin also says "the Beast didn't want anything, it was only defending itself, people are bad" when we have evidence that both Malachai and Doryani were compelled to act by the Beast's instructions. We're also still able to use thaumaturgy, which means it's either a finite resource in the world now (only whatever gems remain) or that the Beast's power isn't totally destroyed. Depends how much you take what Sin says as truth, I suppose! But it is good counterpoint.
@alexseguin52454 жыл бұрын
@@KittenCatNoodle , I always interpreted the connection to Nightmare for Malachai as emanating from the map device. There's a piece of lore in the Solaris Temple that reads along the lines that he assembled the map device to communicate with whatever was in it. Come to think of it, I'm not sure how these two entities relate to each other. What started existing first, the Beast and the Nightmare, or the Atlas and / or Elder? Are they even related in their origin? Would be interesting to explore that in a future video.
@KittenCatNoodle4 жыл бұрын
@@alexseguin5245 I think the Beast's "Nightmare" and the Elder's "Decay" must have something to do with each other. There's many connections and uses of Nightmare and since we don't know the Beast's creation date, we can't really say who is connected or what the "origin" is. But Malachai says he hears these voices since his first touch to a Virtue Gem, which he concludes are "lessons cloaked in Nightmare...from the Beast." and is compelled to create the Map Device through these dreams and voices. On the Reverie Device in Act 3 (his map device) he says "I awoke....and set to drawing these maps through the sable hours. By morning my fingers ached, my eyes burned, yet still I found no rest. The Reverie commanded its rendering." and then says "I know now that which sent me this precious gift. It knows me, expects my return." which I interpret as Malachai being commanded to create the map device from the voice in his dreams. So I think the order is touches virtue gem -> hears voices -> knows it's the beast -> is commanded to make map device and maps -> realizes the Beast wants him to enter it
@neraphruneblade79034 жыл бұрын
@@KittenCatNoodle I believe that the Virtue Gems were a direct result of the Beast's power interaction with the gods. They are solidified divinity. They should be considered finite resources now, as the corpse of the Beast can no longer produce new ones. But the Vaal's experiments did show the powerful nature of sacrifice. There seems to be inherent magic in the world separate from Thaumaturgy that we simply haven't experienced much of.

@@KittenCatNoodle Something I wanted to throw in here. I have been wondering for a couple years if The Beast was truly dead and gone, and I believe the answer was revealed in the trailer for PoE 2. The answer is no, it is not dead and gone. The noble/lord that is ordering the execution of the exiles is sitting next to something egg shaped and glowing the standard red of nightmare. It's possible I am wrong, but that looks like a beast heart if I ever saw one. When you are in the black core in act 4 you get a good look at the 3 hearts there still encased in their carapace. The egg thing great reminds me of this. Besides, there are other powerful demons out there as seen by the breach demons. Corruption and thaumaturgy may have other sources besides the beast. And who says Sin didn't have ulterior motives by reviving his pet beast? I believe Sin only told us what we needed to know and nothing more.

This makes a lot of sense. Imagine Tasuni being The Ring boss, using other people for his instrument/replica research to find more means of controlling the nightmare. I always saw Tasuni as a very pragmatic, down to earth man. He knows he is corrupted and on the edge between two worlds. He may seem cold over Oyun and Kira's death but I understand that, what's done is done and if it means he now can change things, why grieve over it? Irasha makes some points but always struck me as well too conservative and vindictive towards outsiders, and borderline paranoid concerning Tasuni. I think those last words of yours are spot on: If Tasuni is given leadership, it all boils down to his capacity to stay sane. I like to give the feather to either of them depending on the character I play. Like, the marauder comes from a tribal and traditional culture as well and should be more inclined to give the feather to Irasha. The witch, on the other hand, would be more likely to give it to Tasuni since she has the similar mindset of a thaumaturgist with some understanding of the Beast.

I always hand Tasuni the feather. He's blind yet knows more, and walks in the grey areas, he might seem like the tactician villain to some extent, yet understands his own vices. If anything his view on idealism is correct. Also reminds me of a 'Harmonic Neo-Confucian'. scholar. Irasha was incredible idealistic of their tripe traditions, and idealism always leads to corruption. Also a tad bit self righteous and incredibly condescending, when you choose Tasuni as the leader, with a high load of spite or condemnation. Not whom I would call proper leader material. As Tasuni put it, she was stuck in traditions, unable to see what lies beyond the sandstorm, or fog.

I'm not sure I agree with your interpretation of Act9 having the Beast resurrected. "The Dark Ember. Never again shall it birth a life so magnificent as the Beast, yet a residue of that power still lingers. Enough to give us a fighting chance against the ravenous Kitava." It sounds like he's raiding the corpse and splitting and the 3 souls are to charge the dark ember's battery just enough to be useful. Tasuni's comment about feeling like he's on a cliff with a longing for the ground sounds like some "call of the void" stuff. He may have felt the unleashing and merging of the 3 tainted souls and it scrambled him a bit. Even Sin didn't like how they tasted. As for the feather, I suspect he has the hots for Irasha, got turned down by her, and is able to "see" that she thinks he's a creeper so he's been going full Red Pill and wants the feather just so she can't have it. He probably has some plans for what he can make her do for him if he gets it and all of his talk of a progressive future boils down to "turn this place into my personal harem". It's really a sad story. He has power fantasies and idolizes sociopaths but he is himself pretty impotent. He's an angry man in a matriarchal culture that feels compelled to tolerate him because he's slightly magic. As for his survival as a baby and being able to see Sin, you can't talk about any intention of the Beast without aligning it with Sin's Master Plan. Sin may have saved him as a baby to set him up to be a piece in his long game giving him special attunement to hear the Beast to help and direct any would be adventurers like us. His whole reason to exist is to give us some exposition we don't listen to and one extra skill point and he can "see" that. So he just acts all deep and mystical to look cool and cover up his inner pain. Tasuni is just a goth kid. QED
@KittenCatNoodle4 жыл бұрын
LOL I love this interpretation, even if I don't agree that Tasuni has the hots for Irasha. I think, if any of the Beast remains, it's definitely not "a life so magnificent as the Beast," and I do think we throw the Dark Ember into Kitava to seal the deal. Obviously it can't be 100% resurrected because all the gods are still awake. But I personally don't trust that Sin fully understands what he created, and I suspect that something still lingers. Tasuni is def an angry impotent edgelord though, I'll give you that

retcon? what are you talking about? the conquerors made sense and still make sense, nothing has changed there. and the masters' stories fit perfectly into betrayal. synthesis league didn't go core but all the lore in it still applies fully (i.e. nothing has changed with the war for the atlas, the elder, watchers of decay, nor zana's father becoming the shaper). what retcon are you even talking about?
@paranidherc Жыл бұрын
@@knaz7468 Woah, only took you 2 years to come up with this, huh. The retcon is the introduction of Conquerors by themselves. Originally the Exile was the only one having access to the Atlas as well as being able to handle it and going after Shaper, who in turn was trying to keep Elder at bay and has lost his mind in the process. The reason Zana helps us is to resolve this conflict and try to save her father, aka Shaper. They retconned this continuity into her first having had 5 other individuals preceed us and taking down Elder with combined efforts but being burdened too much by the endless slaughter they had to commit and eventually losing themselves to madness, not unlike Zana's father. Which is also why she becomes hesitant to send us out and why she becomes angry when we take on Maven't invitation, eventually leaving for good, since she can't bear seeing history looping and recognizing that the Exile is going the same path as the Conquerors and Shaper did before.
