I am not nearly as educated and experienced as you or many of your followers and commentators Chris. It seems to me like Slovenia really. really wants to win. I would not be surprised either way but I'm leaning toward Primoz working for Pog. I doubt Primoz' form will match Pogs. Primoz doesn't like to work for anyone else but he's also a realist. If he's there and he's on less than stellar form I think he'll be working to bring the championship home to Slovenia, no matter who is wearing the jersey. But I'm just a fan, not an expert so I may be in the weeds on this. However it goes, I'm looking forward to the race. Thanks as always Chris!

What struck me is how lost Lotto looked with 3 guys in front. At first it looked like a winning hand. But soon after 2 Lottos dropped, Pog and De Lie looked at each other a little further up the road and everyone came back. It was a little strange. I wonder if De Lie should have let Pog go a little and wait for the sprint. The final sprint looked so slow everyone was cooked.

Chris, last year at the Giro Roglič crashed in stage 11 and got a 5 cm wound (hole) in his thigh. You can see the wound if you watch this video on YT called - Primož Roglič gives us some news after his crash during stage 11 of the Giro d'Italia 2023. In addition to that, his coach Marc Lamberts recently said that he was also sick ("covid") during that time. That's why he had "ups and downs" last year at the Giro. He was recovering and saving his efforts for the last mountain TT which suited him more than Thomas. Anyway, for the Worlds Slovenia will also have Mohorič, Tratnik, Novak, Mezgec and Govekar.
@ivanj86
@ivanj86 3 күн бұрын
He did well in fighting to stay very close in GC then, which is one of his feats, if he's not feeling great he can hang on and not lose to much. And he's a winner, he somehow manages to win almost every race he enters, if hes in good shape. Although probably that Giro the competitors could've taken more time on him in the middle of the race when he wasn't feeling good, but they raced conservatively until the last week

The 1990 World Championship Road Race, in Montréal, happened on the last full day of my honeymoon, in "diluvienne" rains (huge!)... the one selfish request of our two weeks in Canada... it was brutal. I'll presume the course is identical or nearly so? It will have that steep climb on the eastern end, which was "killer"! Chris, with your experience as a former rider...is it an indictment on Roglic that he has had so many crashes in big races? Is he or his team using knucklehead tactics that leave him vulnerable? Is it just terrible luck? Is it both? Great riders of Roglic's caliber in the past didn't seem to have so many crashes. It's a shame to see a great rider like Roglic have his prime physical years marred by crashes.
@ChrisHornerCycling
@ChrisHornerCycling 3 күн бұрын
I believe that some of the crashes are just from being in a bike race. But I also believe that a few of the crashes could be avoided but Roglic doesn’t read the race situation continuously enough to see the crashes developing in front of him and then being able to avoid a few of them. 🤔😱🦋👍
@newtoncountry5937
@newtoncountry5937 3 күн бұрын
@ChrisHornerCycling Thanks for the insight, Chris. Its funny how a grand tour can come down to fractions of a second when it comes to crashes. I'm always reminded of '03 when Lance cut across the field to avoid a crash. That fraction of a second meant he would go on to win the Tour. But in that same fraction of a second, that crash effectively ended Beloki's career.

Very gracious of Pogi to not ride the Vuelta so his teammates could go instead and **looks at Vuelta final standings** get their tails kicked by Primos. As I have said before, and am here again to gloat: Pogi should have gone for the Grand Tour triple. It would have been his-💯. Not to mention, because he was a top prospect in his teens, all of his school teams had won state titles. That was his only trip to the World Series for his whole career. I feel like for Roglic we haven’t really known what his peak form has looked like in a long time he always crashes out of the tdf so we don’t see him against pogi or Jonas so we have to kinda guess how he would look he crashed out in the vuelta when Remco won but Remco looked better when he was racing and in the giro Roglic won last year Remco left with Covid I hope Roglic has some freedom from pogi so we can see how he looks at peak form against the best

Nope. He’s #6 on my list of the first page best riders in the world. And I only have 6 riders in that page. The Netherlands team was not the top ranked team in the past worlds courses, so the topic of MVDP wasn’t relevant in today’s video. But there’s two weeks still to bring him up. 🦋👊💪🇳🇱

This was not a race Pog could have won, not hard enough. Historically this race was most won by smart, strong bigger dudes good at sprinting like Mathews and Sagan. Not a single time has it been won by a GT guy. Pog looked very good.
