I really like the messed up doorway that you go to when you finish a puzzle. It implies that the Trick Master just does some very scrappy DIY job every single time he modifies his house for his shenanigans.

Hoenn was full of so many unique small attractions we just don't get places like this anymore
@lelouch73159 ай бұрын
It's mainly due to maps, the map designing in pre gen5 games were absolute masterpiece. For example hoenn map does not have linear path to follow like you don't go in straight line and reached the Pokemon league -the player has to go from dewford city-slateport to continue the game further. When you reached slateport city the game just forces you to come as full circle from where you started (yes back to your home) because in order to go further in game the player needs to visit places like verdanturf, lavaridge and fallarbor town. Then you again reach rustboro city from there go to your house alongside challenge your dad as well, however when you unlocked the surf you can just go your home faster by route 103. But not just that you could travel to pacifidlog by just surf and explore things on your own -the whole map gives you many options to return to the place which weren't unlocked before, so the feeling of having adventure gets heightened due this mapping. -While kanto map is also very great. In that map you don't have any direction or plot convenient story to follow it's very basic, the game just throws you into the world of Pokemon and let you explore on your own without any sort of help or directions.(something which today's game lacks) -now the see the f*cked up map of galar where whole region is in a single staight line. The whole purpose of map is for the player to go to random city complete the gym and then never return, reach the Pokemon league and never show your face in home again. Like the game doesn't give you any opportunity to come at you home town it is all just a straight line -the older maps used to be very spread out and felt like you were actually doing something and going on and unexplored adventure never seen before but nowadays that spirit has lost in modern games. (The maps really went downhill from gen5 onwards).

I miss actual puzzles even if they were easy they at least made you think more than following a path
@yesiam74819 ай бұрын
so true man, i feel like pokemon today is missing those small magic moments. The trick house was so random, it had no reason to be on that route, it had no reason to exist at all. trick house, pokemon contests, berry farming, shoal cave, mirage island, etc. They added SO many little things for you to discover and mess with in Hoenn. The dynamics of Hoenn was a huge leap from Johto in gen 2. They did most of these things because they were cool & fun... Now it feels like they just follow the cookie mold too closely, and even when they DO branch out to new things nowadays....... *yeesh* usually not their best work (i.e Dynamax) edit: how could i forget secret bases? Kids in 5th grade would show shove their gameboys in your face at recess to show you their treecko doll or whatever lol

I remember i did all the puzzles so i could get the red tent in Ruby and the blue tent in my emerald game. Then with the help of the Mauville center trade guy i put both tents in one game. I then later created 12 different secret bases using emerald and eventually transferring those bases into Ruby. the bases were based off of the original Kanto Gym leaders, Giovanni had both tents in his secret base. Gary had the blue tent and Ash had the Red tent. I wish i had named them Blue and Red. and then i also made a secret Blissey base with Joy as the owner and a gen 2 pokemon base with Wes from Colosseum as the owner of that base. whenever i find out someone still has the old Hoenn games ill borrow their game and do the record mixing so that my bases become part of their game so they can hunt down all the themed bases i created.

I like how the HM requirements make it so that you are expected to come back to the trick house over the course of the game Unfortunately for me, when I was a kid playing the game for the first time, I was up observant and never saw the sparkle in the trick house, so I never encountered the trick master until a long way into post game Doing all the puzzles back to back is not a fun experience, it also breaks the immersion that he can change his house so quickly, when in reality you are supposed to come back after some time has passed

My favorite part of beating the Trick Master is that he literally shits himself upon realizing how much you outclass him. If I remember correctly, if you check the cushion in the room after you complete his final maze and he teleports away, you'll find a invisible Nugget where he was sitting. It's not like Game Freak hasn't been this classy/disgusting beforehand. Can't forget about the invisible Nugget in the Miltank prairie in Gold and Silver. And yes, that is indeed exactly what it was implying. Gotta love wordplay.
@trianglemoebius8 ай бұрын
Personally, I highly doubt this was wordplay, I think it just worked out like that. In the original Japanese, the nugget is called the "Gold Orb", so the pun wouldn't work.

The very first time I entered his house, I definitely missed the twinkle. When the frantic music played, and the message came up that I was being watched, I was terrified! When I came back much later, I understood a bit better. Over time, I always loved the way he’d hide under a table or something and be like “GAAH YOU FOUND ME!” And then send you on some tricky puzzle before forcing you to profess your love/amazement of him in order to open the door. I found it funny how you’d then find him chilling in his house, probably having a cuppa, while you’re doing all these tasks. Trick Master is a vibe. As a teenager, I aspired to have his charm, charisma and creativity.

I faintly remember some of the NPC trainers in this place giving off the impression that they were either strong-armed into participating or couldn't figure out how to leave. Like the Trick Master was being at least one step too obsessive with his "cool local funhouse attraction,"

I REEEAAAALLLLYYYY wish they'd made this a staple of the games. He leaves on a journey to develop better puzzles which is a perfect set-up to him appearing in other regions. I know with X and Y they heavily downplayed the puzzle aspect, most of it just walking in style. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to make the puzzles easier since it seems like GF has been headed in that direction over all according to their interviews. The trickhouse could be a good compromise. We get some decent puzzles but they're optional so players don't get frustrated being stuck at one point in the game if they struggle with the puzzles.
