Hey opossum! I work as a waiter at olive garden and i bring pokemon cards to work every night and give cards to all the kids that i serve. They absolutely love it. They come in and when they see ill be taking care of them they get all excited and call me the pokemon guy. It really just warms my heart the way these kids appreciate it. I only give cards that have at least some value and i give commons to the little ones cuz they dont care. But where full grown adults get off entering "trades" like this with little kids to rip them off.. i dont get that at all. Ive given probably 1000$ worth of cards away because getting kids to enjoy the hobby is really whats most important i think. That guy should have given back the 80 cash and gave the kid more packs. Id rather have the bidoof than all the other cards and the cash but i wish some other adult would have stepped in to even out the trade.

I once pulled a Flareon gold star from 3 packs I bought from a vendor at a swamp meet back when I was 11-12. The guy at the vendor saw I pulled it and immediately tried to finesse me by offering 3 more packs for the card…. These scumbag poke vendors have existed since the dawn of time… Luckily I saw through the BS offer and went home with my Flareon. I graded it a PSA 9 in 2021 and it’ll forever be in my collection.

I’ve sold all of these cards at one point raw/graded. Dragonite 100 Charizard 40 Mew gold 40 Mew LO 40 Venusaur 40 Cash 80 $340 total He’s essentially asking for 15% over sticker price in trade. Which is typical for a trade deal. Yes, the sticker price is high, but we can’t see the condition as that affects the price greatly (even sealed you can tell obvious things). PSA 10s in the card go for $700+ with plenty of sales in the 1k range. It’s likely not a 10, but clean sealed copies can go for $280. The slabs are much harder to move than a sealed bidoof, are being comped high, and will not go up much in price. The issue here is not the deal. It’s that the deal was with a kid.

When you're trading 1 higher value slab for multiple lower value ones, $30 is not profit at all. Moment you sell any of those slabs on ebay, you lose 13% plus at least $4 to ship, that $30 would be gone after 2 slabs, hence why he got another $80. I think this is a lot better than most stores would have done tbh. Most of the stores I see would typically do 50-60% at best

I can't imagine doing this intentionally. one time I did mess up accidentally bc I didn't check prices before doing a trade -- I was just getting into the hobby and some little girl wanted to trade for my PokemonGo Radiant Charizard, and I wasn't super familiar with the post-WOTC sets, so I traded it for her full-art Mars card from Ultra Prism 😭 She was super happy with the trade, but afterward when I looked up the prices (back then it was only like $30ish, but still a lopsided trade) and I felt so guilty lol. I’m seeing some people say oh it’s a 50% trade or 60% trade like I understand that your LCS gives you a percentage for cash and for store credit but like come on this is at a convention space, this isn’t your LCS that you can basically give someone 50% market value for your cards (which I absolutely hate and didn’t believe until recently) my local LCS does 70% market value which I thought was insane but apparently that is good lol but anyway keep up the great content and maybe do more longer videos like 15-20 minute+ 🙏

As a business, I have discounted product for parents buying for their kids, gave some parents the ability to buy first during the pandemic, and usually include gifts for thie kids if I know they are buying for kids (such as battle decks, funkos, etc). I have never once said "Hey, let me swindle this young kid to get a better deal for my business". Those are PSA cards of popular cards.... they will not sit like people defending the guy are saying. He's also at a convention, where he most likely put an above market price and they still sold. So, I would say his profit was larger than you calculated. Lastly, I just hate how he posted this like he was doing this kid a favor. If you are defending this guy with dumb excuses... You are part of the reason why so many in this community don't trust LGS's and small businesses.

I get nervous trading with a kid at my LGS when they ask me for something, mainly because I’m not confident with trading in general, I often double and even triple check to make sure the value and trade is fair. Meanwhile that guy is ripping a small child off….. I don’t know how he sleeps at night!
