I hate the “1 item for 1 Pokemon”, it’s like being given locks and being told “oh, you need the [pokemon] key to evolve [pokemon]”. Ideally either the number of Pokemon specific evolution items is decreased or what Pokemon evolve from pre-existing Pokemon evolution items should increase. With Scarlet and Violet having an option to Use or Hold for almost all bag items, held evolution items should be able to be used like other evolution items (similar to Legends Arceus) and all Pokemon evolution items (besides evolution stones) should be able to be held and have an effect either in-battle or on the overworld. As for some other methods that annoy me, this is how I would change them Tyrogue, which stat is higher determines it’s evolution (Attack = Hitmonlee, Defence = Hitmonchan, Speed = Hitmontop) Eevee to Sylveon, use Shiny Stone Sliggoo, can evolve if the weather is raining in battle Inkay, learn the move Topsy-Turvy G-Yamask, this NEEDS to change but the best ideas I have are either Dusk Stone or Peat Block Gimmighoul, if Pokemon materials get removed then I can imagine the method being replaced with an item evolution (“ancient coins” with the sprite showing a pile of coins)
@browserjunior47077 ай бұрын

Sylveon is supposed to be a reward for tightening your bond with an Eevee. *"Sliggoo, can evolve if the weather is raining in battle"* Agree with this one as well. *"Inkay, learn the move Topsy-Turvy"* A perfect middle ground. *"G-Yamask, this NEEDS to change but the best ideas I have are either Dusk Stone or Peat Block"* Sorry, but no. This would turn said evolution method into a nothing-burger. Besides, I do not agree that the best solution to prevent this from happening would be to cut away lore by modifying how a Pokemon evolves. *"G-Yamask I think needs to change because it’s the combination of needing to loose X amount of HP AND have a location based evolution, if it was one or the other then it would be fine but having both is too convoluted"* I still fail to see the problem here. To me it sounds like you are just too lazy and don't care at all if lore is cut. *"people just find the obtaining of the coins to be the annoying part."* Then maybe they should stop being lazy. If they can grind levels, they can get the coins.
@browserjunior47077 ай бұрын
@@toumabyakuya Issue with Coin Grinding is that it’s slow and tedious and level grinding as a whole has been removed as we now have EXP candies. While you **can** just hunt every Chest Gimmighoul down in the map, that’ll take forever and you’ll have to deal with the standard drops of 25/50 coins until you get those rare 100/200/300 coin drops. You’d also need to do Item Drop Power Level 3 ghost to make it faster but again all that work for an evolution I do think it’s tedious. As for everything else you said I agree. Sylveon should stay as is as I think realistically it makes sense that it is a friendship evo + fairy move. As for G-Yamask I think just having dedicated ominous spots on the field would be a good work around, like how they did with the Mossy Rock and Icy rock for Gen 4-7 (and technically 8). As for Metal Coat, the reason they didn’t make it an evo item either is cause they realized that most people do not like Trade Evolutions anymore. We haven’t had a new trade evolution Pokémon since Gen 6, the most recent one we gotten is technically Alolan-Golem. Metal Alloy works perfectly here since now it could potentially be used in future games for Scizor/Steelix rather than the Metal Coat, which honestly doesn’t even make much sense to be an evolution item considering.

Actually I just did that today in Go, I was happy to see the method hadn’t been changed. Shelmut and Karrablast might be a pain, but it’s pretty cool the ways it ties the two Pokémon together and makes their evolutions’ designs reflect that too. When you come across a wild Pokemon you wouldn't normally care about, catch it anyway! It could be useful for this. This should increase your storage for the coins, and I'm pretty sure the boxes can hold about 960 Pokemon total, and with more of them never being used than being used, that's almost enough to hold coins for two evolutions, the first 999 just being in the bag!

a neat fakemon drawing challenge I thought of was to make another Pokemon for unique evolution methods ie: another Pokemon that evolves after landing 3 crits in a battle, or traveling through a stone gate after losing 49 hp or for unique items like the Galarica Cuff and Wreath, or the Dragon Scale

There is a person in a town that will hold extra coins if you already reached the max of 999, so you can still collect more coins if you are even at max. Can’t remember the town name but if you look up guides on how to farm the coins the guides usually will say the guy and town he’s in.

The gimmigoul found are not consumed, so you only need to hunt 999 coins once
@matthewkuscienko46167 ай бұрын
They technically are consumed, but there's also an npc that will hold onto your Gimmighoul coins once they are used to evolve one, which at least means you're not forced to collect that many again. Clearly, the developers realized how frustrating this would be, and so created the aforementioned npc to make it less of a headache. But it's still a pain to collect enough coins necessary to evolve it, even if you only need to technically do it once
@DetectiveBarricade7 ай бұрын
The 999 coins needed to evolve Gimmighoul are consumed, but you can continue to collect Gimmighoul Coins even after you've hit that number. They'll just be held by an NPC in Medali until you've used up or tossed the ones in your bag.

One of my biggest flexes is that when I evolved a tyrouge, I didn’t really care what it turned into, I would’ve been fine with any so I didn’t train it in any specific stat and when it finally evolved I got a hitmontop

Funnily enough, I've been duped by the same evolution method on 3 separate occasions. In gen 6, I had an amaura until the league In gen 8, I had a snom until the league Both require levelling up, with high friendship, at night.

When I first played X and Y I wanted to evolve Eevee into a Sylveon, which evolves via friendship. What I didn't know was that as I was training it and getting close to Sylveon, I had entered the area near a moss rock, leveled Eevee up, and thought it was evolving into Sylveon. Nope, Leafeon instead. It was a neat surprise, but a bit disappointing too.
@FRAPPEFIZZYY7 ай бұрын
im pretty sure you actually CAN horde Gimmighoul coins for extra evolutions! you can continue to collect coins after hitting 999, and a character in medali will claim to have “found” coins, which i believe do actually line up with how many you’ve collected since hitting the maximum!
@Minezum3 ай бұрын
18:41 just a correction/tip, you can hoard for multiple evolutions. The coins that you would have gotten once maxed out are given to a guy in Medali. It's a worker dressed with a reflectior jacket saying the coins keep popping out. If you talk to him after using the coins, he will give the ones that you didn't get before.

I want them to add more Pokemon with hyper-specific secret evolution requirements and never tell the players that they even exist. I imagine an evil dark type Pokemon that has some weak fairy type move at level 1, which evolves into a secret fairy type version if it uses that move after level 60. But the kicker is that you can't catch that Pokemon at a low enough level in the wild, so you wouldn't even know it has that move at level 1. So you have to breed one and level it up without ever unlearning the move. Then there are some sinister dark type moves that you aren't allowed to let him learn along the way. The third move it learns is own of them, so you have to teach two TMs before then to make sure it doesn't have room for it.

11:50 You know after I saw how the evolutions where changed in XD it just made me question why they don't just make you need a Sun Stone and or Moon Stone. Since they changed Gleaceon and Leafeon to need a Ice Stone and Leaf stone respectively, I feel like it would just keep that stone evolution theme Eevee has with its Gen 1 Evolutions. I don't think there is a pre existing stone that perfectly works for Sylveon though... maybe Shiny Stone? It evolves a couple fairy types already.
@Turtle-Soup6 ай бұрын
I’ve had conversations before where I’ve argued they should switch those evos to those exact stones. If they were to make the change, would even lead into a prime opportunity for evos that use the dusk and dawn stones.

as much as i love inkay, as a squid enthusiast myself, and think its evolution method is very silly, it annoys me that i always have to get my friends to evolve my inkay for me, since you can't evolve inkay if you have a pro controller connected to the console while flipping it upside-down for whatever reason. my joycons are broken so i can't use them and even turning off my pro controller as i level it up doesn't work unfortunately :( also this just made me remember i currently have an unevolved shiny inkay and now i'm gonna need to get my friends to evolve this one too.......

@@Turtle-Soup for what it's worth, the roaming ones can respawn several times a day. It's not guaranteed, of course, but if you obsessively memorise their hiding spots, you can rack them up pretty quickly? I think I got enough coins for an evolution in 3 days at the height of my obsession lol

Fucked up and evil evolution idea: a regional evolution that can only be done with a different region's regional form of a pokemon. (like if you brought an alolan vulpix to johto and it evolved into a fully new pokemon, despite kantonian vulpix already living there)

Just so you know for the future, there's actually a guy in one of the towns in SV (I forget which one, don't have time to look it up) who holds on to any excess Gholdengo Coins you pick up after 999. It doesn't make up for the nightmare, but it helps for evolving a 2nd or 3rd one down the road.

Im surprised vivillion didnt get a mention here. It has around a dozen different forms, and in pokemon GO, you have to be freinds with players from different countries, recieve gifts from them, and pin thost postcards to you postcard book in game, and you have to do it several times for each specific region before you get an encounter with a region specific scatterbug, which then has to be evolved with a total of 125 candies to actually get the vivillion that looks different.

Sometimes it makes you wonder how some people figured these methods out, like the specific amount of damage ones, without coordinating with others
@sonicrunn3r8957 ай бұрын
I think out of all the methods in the series, my least favourite has to be the location based ones. Still insane that in Sun and Moon, you had to lug around a charjabug for 80% of the game for it to evolve (and they actually addressed this in USUM by making an area on Ula'Ula also work for the evolution)

I'd like to take this moment to remind you that at +3 crit chance, crits become guaranteed. Easiest way to do this is holding a Leek, which gives +2, use a crit-boosted move, which will usually be +1.

hopefully Pokemon Legends Z-A continues the ability to evolve trade/trade-item evolutions like in Arceus, PLA almost covered all the ones from the first 4 generations (except Seaking, Slowking, Politoed, Huntail, Gorebyss, Milotic), coincidentally them and the rest of the trade/trade-item evolutions from Gen 5+ are in the Kalos Pokedex, so finger crossed!!

Trade evolutions drive me nuts but I’ve found some of them spawn wildly in some games and also transferring them from Go is a great work around. That doesn’t help for Finizen to Paladin, though, but I was able to get that one by using local instead of online with a friend so that’s a nice memory, especially since it was the last entry to complete the base game SV Dex and that’s also the first Dex I’ve actually completed and I completed it in both games!

Fun fact I saw somewhere. Mamoswine line can't learn Ancient power aside from egg move. So they couldn't evolve by themselves in the beginning. Barboach or dunsparce (not sure which one ATM) is like the only Pokémon in same egg group. So technically all mamoswines are descendants of that Pokémon.

Great video! If they’re going to keep doing complex evolution methods, I don’t have a problem with it as long as they give some kind of hint in game. It’s kind of like solving a puzzle, I don’t want to have to look up a guide, it kinda takes me out of the experience.

Big time! Karrablast/shelmet and Inkay for example have their evolutions’ designs hint towards their methods, which is nice. I haven’t checked in a long time, but it’d be nice if say the Pokémon labs or maybe libraries had books you could read that hinted/detailed some of the more complicated ones like galarian yamask, so while it’s still looking them up in a way, it’s still a way that keeps you immersed.
