Jaiden had pretty much worse luck in what her opponents had... And Frosslass is one Pokemon who gave her tough time in Platinum one too!

And ironically, had Jaiden used the Froslass she caught against Jan, she could have completely countered Hitmontop and kept her the Darphel pair alive (since Counter wouldn't work on Froslass due to her being a Ghost type). Froslass caused their run's first deaths, while she could also have prevented one of their most devastating deaths later in that same run.

In their defense, even if they hadn’t accidentally killed all those good pokemon (like Charizard, Suicune, Deoxys, etc.) they probably wouldn’t have been able to catch them anyways. Think about it: the randomizer changes levels, but it doesn’t change catch rates. And when you consider that at that point in the game, you only have access to weak pokeballs…well, it’s like with Houndoom all over again.

You can change the catch rates btw. They just didn't do it. It's just one click in the randomizer.

I believe Jaiden has a 2nd channel (or maybe I saw it on Alpharad's 2nd channel) that has more behind the scenes stuff and they have actual gameplay from this video where you can see them struggle capturing these encounters and what usually happened was due to the low catch rate they had to try and get it as low into the red as possible to even try and catch it which is hard to do without killing it.

One thing you need to know about Alpharad, is that his luck is the type you only see in legends and Danganronpa

In Jaiden’s defence, even as someone terrified of using physical attacks on fighting types, I probably would have lost Charizard there. It had the level advantage and a super effective stab move that you wouldn’t expect Hitmontop to be able to tank there, even if you got a low roll. So that counter death sucked.

Personally, if I knew a Hitmontop was coming, I would have tried to negotiate for a temporary swap to put Froslass on my team, so that her Ghost typing would counter Hitmontop's Fighting typing & moves, and even if Froslass somehow died, she wouldn't have been as major of a loss as Darphel was. Ghost types are the best way to deal with a Fighting type that might know Counter.

True, but it's kind of impossible to know what's coming in a Randomiser.

@@Shay96 The randomizer itself wasn't the display of luck. It's how often each of them had to release a Pokemon they wanted to keep rather than one of their "release fodder" Pokemon. And after a certain point they decided that at every milestone they would flip a coin to decide which of them had to release a Pokemon while the other was safe from having to release a Pokemon. And that just wound up showing off the luck disparity between them even *MORE* !

The Mewtwo wasn't a gift that's the shuckle encounter that a trainer gives to you for safekeeping but you're supposed to give it back, only depending on your friendship does the trainer decide to let you have it when he sees that his shuckle is happier with you, if not he just takes it back. You can refuse to give it back but that's you being a sussy baka Also no Dratini encounter, after getting the badge from Claire you can head back into the dragon cave and if you answered the questions from the old man perfectly, and have an open slot on the team I think, he gives you a Dratini (or you can swim around the caves for one, takes longer) seeing as it's randomized it could have been some cool encounters

Yea they killed a bunch of really good pokemon early. But bare in mind alot of those would been incredibly hard to catch with just poke balls. Not impossible but very hard.

good video, the one minor thing i will say, that really only affects people listening with headphones, is your voice specifically is coming in a bit softer on the left side. i don't think it's my headphones because the actual video from Jaiden is coming in fine on both sides. nothing major, just a thing i happened across because i was wearing headphones at the time

Just a suggestion, but to get an idea for the disparity in luck between Alpharad & Jaiden, you might want to check out their Charity stream, where they did a Randomizer Race, but at certain donation milestones they would have to randomly choose one of their active party Pokemon to release. Just see for yourself what happens....

Jacob had 5 legendaries by the end, (4 when you said 2 and Jaiden said 3) He had Regigigas, Kyogre, Suicune, Azelf, and lastly Regirock.

This was a good Nuslocke and it was funny that Jaiden who usually played as the female player in her two other videos May and Dawn but their she was the male player Ethan while Jacob was the female player Lyra and I think Jaiden had the worst luck in this video.

Both are unlucky, in their own way, Alpharad was accidentally kill some really good pokémon, few encounters and Jaiden is with lots of encounters, Gym Leaders and the Pokémon League

Sheesh, this chick seems pretty judgmental on their performance. Even Jan's reaction was very lighthearted and understanding of their performances (he even went on a diatribe about how the chicken sandwich part was just how most nuzlockers lose Pokemon in their runs, that being because their focus was lost for a moment for whatever reason, and how this section of HGSS is so boring that he almost definitely would have had something similar happen to himself on the regular due to that). Obviously it's all ultimately in good fun but I dunno, it sometimes struck me as being too mean-spirited when she probably intended to just come across as impish.

I think I figured out why this run bothered me near the end. By their own rules they shouldn't be able to use Bibarel and Dodrio because they are are both Primary Normal Type.

Thinking Dodrio is primary Flying is a pretty easy mistake so I don't see how it matters.

The Type Clause typically factors in that literally all Flying types before Gen 5 are secondary types, so when Type Clause is in effect it treats all Normal/Flying types as if Flying was the primary type. If it is another type + Flying then it factors the actual primary type instead.

The real error they made was with Abomasnow as Jacob has Torterra and it is not in fact Ice/Grass, but Grass/Ice and no one I have seen watch it has caught this, I have only seen a few comments catch it. I realised the Bibarel and Dodrio one myself but as Dodrio being primary normal is STUPID, I can see why they opted to ignore that and pretend it was Flying/Normal as it would make more sense for it to be. Especially as they were both on Jacob's team.

@@ss.surprise Yea. Especially when literally. Only 5 Primary Flying types exist(Tornadus, the Noivern Line, and the Corviknight line) and none of them are in gen 4 so I can see why people would consider the Normal/Flying types as Primary Flying
