Another interesting factor for Waterpon's rise is the prevalence of sucker punch (and now thunderclap) in S/V. Most offensive water types like Urshifu-R don't have any counter play to it, but against Waterpon it becomes a 50/50 mind game. Do you click thunderclap and risk it getting redirected and failing while the partner attacks, or do you click the safer thunderbolt and risk eating a huge ivy cudgel?

It's a fun, stressful format. It feels like you need to adjust your team daily because what was doing well yesterday is suddenly doing poorly today because for some reason, they decided Slither Wing is the perfect counter to the meta and it just so happens to counter your main sweepers.

This is the closest I've seen the metagame be at a stable viable and comfortable place ever. In the "1 restricted" rule format back in Sword Shield, you had an odd amount of diverse viability too, but it seemed to me matchup roulette with the different legends or core dynamax users was very strong. In this format, I don't see that! I can bring a compotent team and do well with it. That's a pretty important thing we want, right? For the most skilled player to win by good plays and good teambuilding decisions. It's just nice that there isn't 6 or so Pokemon that dominate those good decisions.

I always and I mean always use max speed ogerpon wellspring because the ogerpon 1v1 is so valuable and generally 124hp 4 defense 4 special defense is enough to handle enemy ogerpon and other meta mons like flutter mane and urshifu. 124 atk was for....smthing Either way max speed, super crucial in my opinion

I'm going to get slaughtered for this, but the best Urshifu-Dark switch in right now is tera steel Iron Valiant w/speed booster engergy. I have found the most success running a calm mind set with dazzling gleam and aura sphere. Paired with Landorus-T to take down the only type that resists you, poison, and a redirection user, I use tera grass Magmar, Iron Valiant becomes very scary.
