Masuda is more worried about how many people start playing the game and how many people stop playing it than how to make the game good. Stop trying to create a formula that sells and makes you play the game from start to credits instead of a formula that makes the game good and fun

You know how they could make everyone happy? OPTIONS! Just give us difficulty settings, an option for wild battles or Go battles, an option to skip the tutorial and there you have a game that appeals to everyone. Masuda has no idea how to please the whole community for a while now. It all started in ORAS with the exclusion of the battle frontier. Masuda has to go, it doesnt work with him.

Karimawhet will go players even pick up the game though? Like imagine you might have played Pokémon in the past but only red or blue. Pokémon go got you back into the franchise, but you only really picked it up because it was free and you didn’t have to get new hardware. So now you’re approached with this game and on top of having to put down $60 for the game you have to put down an extra $300 for the switch as well. I don’t think a near $400 initial investment is really gonna incentivize a casual mobile game player who usually never has to pay an initial fee and maybe pays some micro transactions at most.

@@justin5600 no, the previous games are advertised and cosmetically designed for kids but the competitive scene is not, its delicate and and takes a lot of time and hard work to get your teams up to par and even then if your not smart about what your doing or you dont do it just right you will fail. That aspect of the previous games was very much put there for the dedicated veterans of the series. Let's Go is a childrens gateway game. The light at the end of the tunnel tho with it is its competitive scene will be a bit tricky to work around for the veterans because it will force us to think outside the box and go back to the good ole days style of play. RBY still had competitive play so I dont know why people are worried about it.

The 150 pokemon master sounds more tedious and boring than challenging. Catching mewtwo without a master ball with an underleveled team was challenging but satisfying and fun to do when replaying pokemon blue.

True but you just pointed it out yourself. The fun isn't in the challenges the game gives you, its the challenges your create for yourself that is the fun part. the game didnt tell you to try to catch mewtwo using a weak team and no masterball, you chose that and therefore it was more satisfying to you. If the master challenge isnt your cup of tea then dont do it, and instead try to create your own challenges that will blow that out of the water

@@SuikaNine I just don't see it that way. Its not like Pokemon as we have known it is canceled and there will only be Lets Go games from now on. He went out of his way to assure everyone that there will be a traditional in the vein of X/Y and Sun/Moon game coming next year. So this game being different does not equate to what you just said. It just means there is a game of Pokemon for one type of fan, and another game for the other. Its giving more pokemon to more people some just have to wait a little while longer. Honestly what would you have rather heard. "Pokemon on switch but you wont see it for 2 years" or "2 pokemon games on switch one this year thats kinda different spin off silly fun game, and the year after the one you always wanted" ill take second all day every day even if the first game was actual garbage (even though in this case its not)

You seriously have no foresight do you? Masuda's mentality towards pokemon is problematic so even if Gen 8 is traditional what's to say gen 9 will too? What if lets go sells so well that Masuda begins to start implementing Let's Go and the Main Series games together so he wouldn't keep his fanbase divided? At this rate that is a very likely outcome and that's why I want Let's Go to under perform If it does then The Pokemon Company may be more hesitant to try and appeal to a mobile market and instead focus on innovating the pokemon franchise in a different way.

@@SuikaNine but that is insanely selfish. I really like Lets Go and want it to do well because I would love to play that style of game for all the generations. Wanting something to fail because you dont like it is so self involved and just tells me that you were the one not seeing the full picture. Yes Matsuda is making a different game this once. Yes people have been skeptical of every game hes made changes too but each one has sold amazingly well, and honestly Pokemon needs something to refresh it at this point so if he decides to change it for gen 9 then I will trust in him to make it a worth while change. I personally thought removing Gyms was going to be the downfall of pokemon that no one would ever want to play it because that was such an integral part of the pokemon experience. guess what, sun and moon and their sequels sold beyond expectation of anyone. We know absolutely nothing about Gen 8 yet except its coming and that it will be like gen 6 and 7 was. Thats it. and here you are talking about gen 9 like it gave you cancer. maybe if you relaxed a bit youd find something to enjoy in Lets Go and even if you didnt you wouldnt begrudge people who do find something to enjoy in it their fun especially when something that is more you speed is just around the corner. For example, I am not wetting my pants to get my hands on Red Dead 2 this weekend like nearly everyone else seems to be online but you dont see me dumping all over their enjoyment just because I am not excited for it. If Gen 8 gets more details that make it seem like its going to be more of a "Casual" game than it should be then yes I will agree with you and riot with you. You mentioned there was no breeding in Let’s Go but you didn’t mention Misuda’s quote in regards to why there wasn’t any eggs. Basically, Misuda believe that a large portion of the people that plays Pokémon has devolved into just hatching eggs opposed to playing the game the way it was truly meant to be played. He literally said that. You acknowledge how this contradicts Megas being in the game but the Misuda quote adds a lot of contex into his overall idea of the “hardcore” Pokémon player overall. This quote is scary as it shows the disconnect between Misuda and the average person playing Pokémon. I really hope Misuda isn’t on further Pokémon projects as there’s no doubt he’ll continue to shape the games into a more casual experience due his delusions of how the average player plays Pokémon, how the average player plays video games in general and the mindset of the average person that plays games. This game wasn’t developed for fans of the Pokémon games. It wasn’t even developed for the hardcore Pokémon Go player. It’s actual audience is for that person who’s primary gaming experience is games such as FarmVille, Candy Crush, and those slot machines games that gives android phones viruses. 😂

These games are made in a completely different way to all other Pokemon games to date. They both remove old features and add completely new ones. No items, no abilities, no wild battles and no National Dex. New capture mechanic and Go implementation. Master Trainers. You cant run around calling people cancerous just because they are pointing out these differences, or because they're saying that the games are made with a different audience in mind. Actually, in saying so, they're right. Masuda and Game Freak themselves have acknowledged that. Let's Go is mostly for casuals and completely new fans, and the 2019 RPG is the next in the mainline series. I think people are comparing Let's go to the main story games way more than they should be. Pokemon let's go is an awesome HD console version of a historic game to enjoy in a new way. A great looking experience of Pokemon for both old a new players. It's not meant to be competitive. It's not meant to be dark souls. It's just a a bonus Pokemon game for the Switch to hold us over until the main story game is released! I couldn't be more stoked that they decided to give us this game rather than make us wait till the main story game. People who say this game is going to just be grinding that's always been a thing grind through the zubats (when you don't have repels), grind through wild battles to level your team, tediously cycle up the same path repeatedly till you hatch an egg with the right stats. To me these games kept most of the things that made Pokémon fun, story, finding and catching new Pokemon, battling gyms and trainers. The only thing removed I like was battling wild Pokémon but even then it's not going to be a case of just throwing the pokeball there's still choosing which ball to use then the pokeball mechanics of which berries to use and when to throw the ball. I may be in the minority but I'm looking forward to this and the 2019 game

For anyone concerned that the concept of Lets Go will be staying throughout the game franchise: The creators of the franchise and anime series are quite strategic because they usually stick to a formula that works. And I do admire that. There's been so many series and game franchises I've enjoyed where they decided to switch things up, however the base concept was fine and actually did worse due to the changes. I honestly don't think the concept of Lets Go is going to stay for more than two games. I'm pretty sure it's just a method to lure a larger audience in and then get back to the original concept.

I agree, Let's Go is meant to be a prep game. Its here to lure in more and younger players in preparation for the wider open world one we are getting in 2019, which I have to assume will contain the majority of the game mechanics we all know and love. I do hope in the 2019 release tho we will still be able to see the pokemon and choose to interact with them as we wish. It never made sense to me that they just popped up. Like how did our character not see that onix or that brightly colored pokemon hiding in that 1ft tall grass?

Masuda has forgotten what Pokemon made Pokemon. The grind, the difficulty, the long adventure going from city to city, gym battles, breeding, the competitive aspect, shiny hunting and so on. Pokemon made Pokemon because there are so many things you could do. With Let's Go they're obviously trying to appeal to a different audience, but even then: If a game is too easy with no challenge whatsoever, then people are going to get bored of it no matter what. That they're using Mobile Games as an example is so wrong, cause most mobile games are free, therefor they lack in any difficulty and are easy to pick up and enjoy it. However, with a 60 dollar game that is Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee; if the game is boring, easy to complete in a few hours and with no difficulty, it's kinda a slap in the face to all those Pokemon fans, wheter veterans or newcomers. I hope Masuda will be far away when it comes to the Gen 8 Games in 2019, because if these changes are moving over to the real core series (I know they said multiple times that Let's Go is considered a main series, but I don't see them as the classic core series like Red, Blue, Gold, Silver, Sapphire, Ruby, Diamond, Pearl, Black/White, X/Y and SUMO), then me and a lot of other people will be certainly dissapointed...

Pokemon Red/Blue were the first games in the series. They had little to work with, but still are considered a breakthrough in handheld gaming and with each generation the series evolved into something better. Now with Let's Go they are downgrading it to the point that a lot of fans are dissapointed. If Let's Go was truely for all Pokemon Fans, they included the features that are now missing or atleast gave us the options to have it in the game itself. It's a downgrade to appeal the more casual players.

Eh, the wild battles get boring after awhile anyway, seriously, 95% of players probably just spammed repels once they had all the Pokemon they wanted in a certain area. These games look ok, not great but ok. Yes, I would prefer a main line games but I would hate for them to rush out the main line games and them have them be mediocre. This seems like it will be fine filler until then. Now if they start putting stuff from this into the mainline games, that's when I will be annoyed.

Repels are to avoid random encounters with wild Pokemon, not battles. People get easily confused because random encounters got deleted in the same game that deleted wild battles. 95% will probably just avoid bumping into overworld Pokemon just like they used repels in other games.

Pokemon is not that hard to begin with. All you need to know is the type match ups which are easy enough to especially when it says "it's super effective!" when you get it right. I spent the longest time without knowing that burns have the attack stat and that evs and ivs existed. I still don't care about evs and ivs. So this approach is ultimately a very silly one as kids aren't idiots and are able to learn.

Yes, exactly! GameFreak is acting like Pokémon was difficult to begin with. It's not! Rom hacks like Pure White are difficult as hell, but that's another story. (burns use the attack stat? I didn't know that)

Burns used to affect the attack stat, but that was changed a while ago. It only affects gameplay slightly, so it doesn't need to be outright explained. I think it's linked to Gamefreak's main problem, most mechanics aren't essential for beating the game, but they break the flow of the game just to explain things to the player rather than having it written down somewhere like, say a trainer school *that's in every game* to be viewed if the player is interested. If the information wasn't constantly giving exposition dumps to everyone, it would be great for all players new and old.

My thing is, since Pokemon follows the same formula again and again and the real challenge is post-game, focus on that. Give us a game where after becoming champion it opens up the game 10-fold or more. 1.Invite us to crazy in-game tournaments like the show. 2.Training grounds with 90-100lv wild Pokemon waiting for us 3.Stop promoting the idea of giving us Legendaries and let us find them randomly in the wild or in select locations. 4.Stop focusing the story on Legendaries that we can't use by the time we get them. 5.Make trainer battles more difficult. 6.Allow us to tackle gyms in the order of our choosing. 7.Have the world of Pokemon and its trainers level up with you; Skyrim Style, so as you get stronger, the trainers become more difficult. 8.Bring back the World Tournament from Black and White 2. 9.After becoming Champion, have all trainers use a variety of different pokemon teams instead of the same type because Gyms are boring and easy. 10.Allow us to travel to every region ever created in Pokemon to collect every badge in existence. 11.Give us actual Rivals and not friendly buddies we battle for kicks. 12.Bring back every battling style from Sky Battles to Triple Battles. 13.Allow us to say "No" to trainer battles. 14.Bring back the Loft from Diamond and Pearl 15.Let the characters date. The “ Trainer Master” battle can be as hard as they want but of it’s still 1v6 then it’ll still be really easy. I don’t understand why Bird Keeper Toby is acting as if a Pokémon fleeing is a new idea, it’s literally the same Pokémon Go mechanics that was inspired by the Safari Zone. This is nothing new, we’ve literally been doing this since gen one. Misuda is really disconnected from what kids nowadays are into. Where are the analytics that shows kids play games for shorter periods of time based on difficulty? He literally pulled that out of thin air. The only reason why people don’t spend a ton of time of mobile games is because most of them are shallow and just serves the purpose of killing time oppose to drawing you in with hours of new content.

I think it really depends how they do it. If it's like you say and all Master trainers have high levelled versions of their pokemon, can you really see someone grinding a magikarp stupid high just to be able to battle them? I think it should be that the trainers levels automatically matches that of your own pokemon - but then the creators have the issues with having to make multiple movesets for each one - unless you just give them a good moveset regardless of their levels.

Having gotten the game yesterday and jumping straight in, the game is a lot of fun. Yes things are different, but people complaining about the game being easy...since when has it not been easy as all get out? Not since red/blue/yellow. Gold/silver/crystal and onward have all been way to easy. The original trilogy was actually challenging to get your pokemon strong. I like the 3D art, but I think adding master trainers after the story ends isn't a great solution to increase the difficulty of the game. It will become boring after battling a couple of trainers and it isn't fun to battle 151 trainers when the story has already finished. I hope they bring back the complexity of the previous (nintendo ds) games: you can play it as a young child, but you can also make it as difficult and complex as you want by using various items, taking stats into account, ...

I’m skipping this game. It looks boring, it looks almost like Pokémon go + walking around in the game instead of real life. The next gen Pokémon game better be really good next year, I skipped ultra sun and moon as well, game freak needs to step it up because their games have been nothing but let downs and garbage as of recent years.

Shattered Sentient I just thought it’s concept was lame. The islands were boring, and the z moves were dumb. I liked the story but after it was over there was almost nothing to do for me. I never played USUM so I can’t judge it, but I can judge SM.

Yeah, I'm probably the most worried about liking this game than I have been in YEARS about any other game. That's because I've been looking forward to this since it was announced and even before, really. I got a Switch for this and a couple other games, as well (and I don't have a whole lot of money lol, but my son and I don't have a video game console of our own so I figured since he loves games at less than two years old, it would be good). I just have a lot of...hope (close to the right , anyway) riding on this. I really, *really* don't want it to be a huge disappointment. The no breeding and the GO-inspired wild battles already gave me a couple hits of disappointment. Thanks for the video! Love your channel!

I used to spend a freaking lot of time battling wild pokemons to level up my team, so it is a deal breaker for me =( I really don't see why they wouldn't just make that optional (battle or berry/pokeball throw)

I'm 37 and I've never played a Pokemon game so I'm OK for this to be easy and show me how to play the game so when the harder Pokemon game coming next year I'll know what to do in the game. I'm not very good at games and I need a little bit of hand holding so I understand the game play.

Trust me you never really needed hand holding to begin with. All you really need to know is the type match ups which is based on simple logic and is easy to tell when it says that it is super effective, and what each individual stat does which if you played any RPG game, it should be self explanatory. Everything else you can figure out by descriptions. It isn't that difficult. If 10 year old kid can figure it out without much difficulty, then I am pretty sure you can as well.

Im voting with my wallet. I think no one should buy it if they have any second thoughts. If not, nintendo will have numbers to back up reasons for them to push this style of game even more. We still don't know how much this game will influence the direction of the "mainline" pokemon game announced next year. If the do not get money for this game or large numbers they WILL go back to what works. If its a huge success, us fans of the more difficult and nuanced gameplay will be left in the pokemon go player's dust.

@@victorford5047 x and y was fun. It was easier, but fun. This game is becoming a why not just have auto battles. It is a very unfair comparison. Eevee and Pikachu editions limit your pokemon, while X and Y expanded the pokemon you could use. As well as move pools.

Honestly I think the difficulty level of the core pokemon games is what made me such a smart child. It forced me to problem solve and learn new words. I was the spelling bee champ in middle school and graduated high school 3rd in my class. And I attribute most of that to pokemon kickstarting my brain from a young age.

I can see what you mean to a degree but at the end of the day my point was that the Intended audience for this game probably won't think it is that shit and at the end of the day I'm gonna wait till the game actually exists as a finished product and I have given it a try before I commit myself to a judgement. After all I was personally worried that mario odyssey and breath of the wild wouldn't be any good as there were so many changes and deviations from the norm and both of them turned out to be fantastic. I even wrote off the witcher three at one point due to my dislike for the witcher two and that game turned out to be one of my favourite games ever. Also I know that there is likely no comparison between let's go and the aforementioned games they were all phenomenal after all but I just think we should reserve judgement and try to understand that some a games can be aimed at an audience other than longterm "hardcore" gamers

I don't blame matsuda and the team if they want to get new target market, and this difficulties isn't the main aim in my opinion. tbh, i'm happy already with some of the new features where i can be personally closer to this generation ! feeling like nostalgia moments ! and it can be difficult if you don't have the right pokemon to encounter the Master Trainers,so it gives a difficulties on the team combination and make sure to train them well (even tho there is share exp things, supposedly) so excited to megaevolve charizard as well !!! can't wait to see if i got the X or Y version hihihi. I started with Pokemon Red back when I was 6. I was a little nervous about this game, especially after how fast I preordered it. After I found out about the Master Trainers and that there might be other post-game surprises I was relieved. At least for me personally, I know if the game itself is as easy as people are describing it probably wouldn't take people like myself much more than a day get through the story once (faster if you don't care to enjoy it) and just get right to the challenging stuff, and I'm sure that's why it's at the end. They want new players to have a sense of being "The Best", you can't be that if there are challenges you have to come back to.

This is the perfect first real Pokemon game to start on the Nintendo Switch. Pokemon Quest is also fun and a good spinoff but Pokemon Let's Go Eevee is a great way to start off the pokemon series on the Switch.
