I remember my shiny palkia hunt. I decided to name them freedom after the agonizing several days of hunting. I can't imagine any longer, but I've easily spent a month hunting a shiny rockruff

As a shiny hunter, I just found it funny when you initially thought Piplup would be sub 50 hours. Also, you were pretty lucky with Dialga. I hunted Palkia in a normal playthrough and went over 7000 resets trying to get it. All within a similar amount of time as your hunt... I really need a different hobby Lastly, I wish I had been around for that, cause I still need to get at least one shiny from the Grand Underground. I'll probably do that after I finish getting everything I can from the 3DS before Pokémon Bank potentially shuts down. Gotta have priorities when hunting 😅

Oh, I see, since the Egg isnt determined to be shiny or not shiny until it hatches, it's Schroedinger's Shiny until it hatches, so while it's in the egg it's always shiny. I love it

The egg already had its own ID in place. If that matches up to your secret ID, it will be shiny. If not, then not. And the egg shell has only that one texture. Thus, it can't be shiny.

Resetting this game for a shiny turtwig broke my micro SD card early. 2,904 resets finally caught it, saved my game and about a month later had to replace the micro SD because installed games would crash randomly

The shiny Starly on the 12th reset is wild, and the complete opposite of my recent Terraria Rod of Discord grind; it took me 1935 Chaos Elementals killed, at which point I had a 99.21% chance of obtaining at least one Rod of Discord in that amount of time - giving me a 0.79% chance of it taking that long.

actually for the pokeradar you just need to see every pokemon, so as long as you battle every pokemon you can get the radar......which would me you'd need to beat the entire game without trading

Linkus, you did something different than all those other shiny run videos you showed, you didn’t use speed up. Everyone else always uses speed up and they make the game go 2 or 3x faster so they can do it quicked

That's what I was most worried about when I clicked. The majority of "Shiny Only" playthroughs that come out these days either use speedup or straight up mod the game to make them less rare. Shoutout to the one guy who has a disclaimer that "even though the odds are different they're still valid" at the start of all of them

I hate shiny hunting in this game specifically. From always getting screwed on the Radar chaining, to ruining my Cresselia hunt over 5000 encounters, and 60 hours, into it. To put it into perspective, I'd only do about 100 encounters a day, every day for about 2 months. Discovering I somehow messed up along the way and now the Cresselia was hard-coded to one stat build and non-shiny... broke me.

Wouldn't the chance in the starter shiny hunt be 4096 ÷ 2 since both pokemon have a chance to be shiny and you lost the coin flip? I think it's the only time you could "half" the shiny odds (I guess other than double battles?) since it's the only battle in game you have a chance to have either pokemon be shiny

P(0 after n tries) = P(not shiny)^n = (4095/4096)^n P(>=1 after n tries) = 1 - P(0 after n tries) = 1 - (4095/4096)^n So, for twelve tries, P(>=1 after 12 tries) = 1- (4095/4096)^12 = 0.2925% Same answer for small numbers as the method Linkus used, but with this formula, if you do 5000 tries, your probability of at least one shiny is about 71%, and not 122%. So Linkus had a 28% of getting a shiny Piplup by the 1360th attempt.
