And therefore people should be able to infringe upon that character? Because that is what you are arguing. There might be 1000+ pokemon, but they aren't all the same and they don't even come close to covering the spread of possible designs for the damn near infinite vast sea of potential fantasy creature designs.... If I picked a random creature, like a bat, and pulled a version of a bat from every jrpg there is, they'll all possess the qualities/form of a bat but they'll be distinct and different and will stand a part form one another. If I asked every person in the comment section to draw an _original_ dragon design, while all the designs will have the form and qualities of a dragon, and some might look similar, they'll all be distinct and different. THAT is the significance. Being DISTINCT and DIFFERENT. Not that you shouldn't be able to use the same concept of creature....And that's what seems to be lost on many folks like yourself. Anyone can use a dog for intellectual property purposes. No one owns the rights/form of a dog. But something like "Jake The Dog" is an ORIGINAL character and design and should be protected under strong copyright. No other person should be allowed to profit off another's original creation. The fact that people REFER to many of these pals as "being like x pokemon" or "looking like x pokemon" or " that's x pokemon but with x feature" tells you everything you need to know about their designs. This isn't happenstance, this was done with intention. This company's creature designs are derivative of pokemon designs. And that why this controversy is a controversy. If these Pals looked nothing like pokemon, or if people never refereed to the game as "Pokemon with Guns" , would this game be nearly as popular or successful? You bet your ass it wouldn't. That's the problem within itself. How far is too far when "being inspired" by another franchise's work? Especially when you claim their was no inspiration from the franchise that your creature designs are CLEARLY based on..... For the sake of copyright protection in the gaming world, we better hope that Palworld gets a lawsuit and shot down/ forced to change some of their designs. Otherwise, this will be bad for the industry. You'll see rampant theft of designs. Small shit companies riding the coattails of bigger ones with even worse infringing games, but on the opposite side big companies that straight up steal designs and ideas from smaller/indie developers. I don't think you guys really understand how significant this is. The whole industry is paying attention to this. If Nintendo and Gamefreak don't/can't do anything about Palworld, it bodes bad for the industry as a whole. And that's a world I don't wanna see. Some of you guys can go hoot and holler for someone sticking it to nintendo/gamefreak , but the precedent this will set will hurt the industry all over.

Plus, Palworld is very explicit and open about it being in an alpha stage, so the honesty gives it lots of leeway with optimization issues. Im actually having a blast with palworld. Had skepticism at firsts but its scratching every itch I got. Combats fun as well as the creatures. And if im tired of catching pals I can just work at my base. Its takeing the best things from different games and does something great with it. Im looking forward to what comes next from the devs

Yeah it's actually a pretty fun gameplay loop. If this is what they can develop on 5 million dollars, and 5 indie devs fresh out of college +- one art intern who may or may not have been sussy to come up with 150 designs in 1 year. (I mean.. i have 1 char and have wondered if 5+ artists /game developed copied them or took inspiration.. After meeting a nice one doing animations for fun lol. Offered my char and had fun, only to end up meeting dopplegangers in a lot of them, completely randomly!) Most people can come up with like.. 3 great designs a decade or year or at best month/week. She was a fresh out of college art intern rejected by other companies and Palworld started off like Shrek vs Prince of Egypt development. They were the company not planned to accomplish anything or be sued out of hell. Apparently nintendo fired their copyright lawyer just a year before over losing a single case to 100s won.. So he was surprised. If he was still around it'd be a easy case he said. But Nintendo kinda already fired him over being unable to copyright. "Pokemon owns the concept of walking around and owning a monster" to Temtem/Cassette beasts.

I really hope the best for PocketPair, and am going to be watching their games with curiosity if nothing else. I was working on my base with a friend last night, and instead of more resource grind (I put in about 4 hours of the day, just farming ores, and letting our base thrive), I added a new level on the roof, and made the roof into an apartment for my friend. Best part is, there's no legit way to reach the apartment outside of climbing or flying, so hopefully all the storage in there is 100% whatever they want. I absolutely adore building in 99% of the games I have played, Fallout 4, FO76 (Kind of, felt weirder than FO4's settlements), ARK, ATLAS (Basically ARK's sister game, set in ~1600's) Minecraft, Palworld, and I'm sure I am forgetting countless others I enjoyed. The thing that makes Palworld better imo for this all, is watching my pals work the various stations, food production, etc, and seeing some even help transport the goods.

Pokemon is reaching their third wave of customers. I hope they skip over some of the stranger ideas (really? Pokemon unbrellas?) but they are good for the next 10 years, as long as they stop burning bridges and shortchanging customers. The potential is there for some really fun game play. I hope they step up. I was an adult when Pokemon hit the market. I've watched the cartoon series and played the games until they got silly. I think the last game I bought was for the Wii, which tells you something about me. I still play my gameboy game, and it's still fun in an 8-bit, black-and-white, very basic graphic way. Palworld is very much like ARK (the pre-current game version), but with cartoon animals. It's fun, lighthearted, and I get to ride a dragon and flame people from the skies. I could never do that in any of the Pokemon games I've played, and very few other games allow the same sort of open-world potential for mayhem and fun. I can play my game my way. It runs smoothly on my system, really great for an early release game, and has a wide range of creative potential that I haven't really seen explored in other games. But you do you. Have fun with it. I hope you have a chance to relax from working mids. I've worked swings and mids, so I get it. Best thoughts, my dude.

What did Pal World actually add that Legenda Arceus or another game Pokemon didn't have already? Open World we got that. Crafting technically a thing in various games. Animations all in which Pokemon game you buy. Character Customization a great deal have them already. Raids yep, Working with Pokemon to accomplish small tasks, on the list.

@@AstraFulminous Legends wasn't open world it was linear progression, if it was open world like say Tears of the Kingdom, you could go anywhere any time you wanted, that's not the case. Comparing crafting in PLA to Pal World is a joke, not even on the same level Pal World is a thousand times more indepth. The only pokemon games that have animations that could even remotely compete with the smoothness of Pal Worlds animations are Colosseum, XD Gale of Darkness, and Battle Revolution, none of which were made by GameFreak. Character Customization was a thing LONG before pokemon did it, and it'd be weird to have a survival crafting game without character customization. Raids in Pal World are NOTHING like Raids in pokemon. Raids in pokemon are more like rare pokemon events you do with other people, Raids in Pal World are a literal warzone where your base gets attacked randomly and without warning. Again you can't compare the task system in Pal World to anything in pokemon, because in pokemon it's exclusively limited to battle use and "HM's" or "super specific terrain traversal" only.

The reason why people have issue with Palworld isn't because of its gameplay. People honestly just dislike that they are making creatures that are derivatives of someone's work and claiming that they are original, when that's clearly not the case. There comes a point where your art style and creature design gets to a point of being too close. I can pick any 2 similar creatures from any JRPG series and compare them and there will be numerous clear differences. They will be distinct and different. However, if you pull creatures from Palworld and asked people who never seen either before, if they were pokemon or not, you'd get a lot of the answers you wouldn't want to hear. They do look like pokemon and can easily be confused as such. If it was only 1 or 2, that would be one thing. However, most of the roster being as such is just crazy.

He even said in an interview that Pokemon is not an inspiration for Palworld creature designs at all. (And that's just simply a ridiculous statement considering. But as some people pointed out, it's better for him to say that to help avoid a lawsuit.). Not all parody falls within Fairuse, especially when monetary gain is at stake. It MUST pass the pillars of the Fair use doctrine. Whether Palworld creature designs can, is questionable at best. Something like " Pokemon Black and Blue" the game made and released by PETA is a parody because it was a satirical criticism of the objective of the franchise games (capturing creatures and forcing them to fight). And whether anyone likes it or not, it does have social commentary value. Moreover, it was not a profit seeking/ commercial game AND was clearly labeled as a parody and looked like a parody in design through and through. Palworld is not a parody in efforts at all.

Ive played a few pokemon games but digimon and palworld have captivated my heart and imagination more. Pokemon company doesnt care about their fans so much anymore. Pokemon Go is a great example of that. Palworld should exist if only to light a fire under pokemon to make them strive to do better. I don't agree with the Anubis thing. Original Anubis art looked different from what is in Pokemon or Palworld. Pokemon drew inspiration from Anubis and then Palworld copied Pokemon. Palworld actually lost out on an opportunity to make it look more like the real Anubis.

Its the same scummy practice as marvel trying to copyright Thor and Loki despite them being nordic gods. And even with copyright law, as long as you make some changes, you're not stealing their art, you're just using it as inspiration, which is legal. Well it looks like they were trying lamball to be so much like a sheep that they ended up with a wooloo💀. Just why can't someone admit it, i have no problem with anubis, grizzbolt or others but lamball literally has perfect round body like woolo face and ears just are visible outside of wool and little horns protruding, they only made lamball bipedalled and changed its horn colour. There are various ways of depicting sheep like in pokemon we also have mareep line which are also sheep but they don't look like wooloo because gamefreak knew they can design sheep in different ways but palworld just took and modified a very LITTLE.
