I like the idea of a small secondary Hull with a warp-core. Makes a lot of sense for many missions I think. It also seems like the ship if it's separated from the saucer at the bottom part of the neck, that it would be an extremely fast Warp Scout with two large engines being supported by such a small hull, at least for Limited amounts of time since it wouldn't have a lot of materials to support the engines. But I bet it would break speed records!

USS Underdog, the poor man's Constitution class. However, it has a unique ability. With the secondary hull replaced with a powerful waterjet drive pod, the ship can sail low above oceans at high speed. A spectacular sight, reminding of the Soviet Ekranoplan on Earth centuries earlier. Not relying on fancy technology, this ship is perfect to explore planets in detail without support.

The ship is odd, but presumably like the Reliant, Engineering isn't in the lower hull, but in the saucer section. It would have to be. No room for the decks or warp core in the primary star drive hull. But it's fiction, so why not?

I don't understand this argument, the warp core is down there in the motion picture, in the dish is at least five or six decks High so why would there be room for a Warp core room there with engineering for the impulse up in the saucer?

I'm trying to work around the really really small secondary hull. It squeaks around the line-of-sight rule, so I'm good with the nacelles. Having said that, it works as a light cruiser.

The pylons are too short, they are suppose to hold heat exchangers for the warp engines. This would over heat at higher warp speeds....I will grant, this Hungarian really knows his Star Fleet history.

I'll caveat this as I always do by saying David is clearly talented and I couldn't produce what he has. That out of the way, not a fan. It's horribly proportioned and just doesn't work. That said, smart idea taking it from the Frankenstein fleet. As others have said, the secondary Hull, besides being out of proportion with the rest of the ship, simply has too much going on in too small a space so unless this was designed by Gallifreyan Engineers, it's just not going to work from a practical standpoint. Also, point of note. The shuttlebay has straight doors. Where exactly do they retract to? That's why the Connie has the doors it does.

To me, this ships looks like Starfleets attempt to cut back on Constitution class. Like for example the Constitution class had to saucer separate which uses explosives bolts. So instead of making a whole new secondary hull, they have the ability to attach a Polaris Class Secondary hull to get the ship back out there where you need it quicker. Or something along those lines.. It is an interesting and unique design..

It reminds me a bit of the TOS-version of the Baton Rouge-class. 7:11 I rather like that idea. I don’t suppose that Discovery did something clever like that with explaining the time factors? I don't see much of "The Cage" back in that series. Back to the warp core. I think that such a small engine would make sense if you greatly reduced the effective range of the vessel (given that it is meant to defend Earth/Sol).

this ship is not practical. how can you have an engineering section,a deflector mechanism and a shuttle bay? in such a small space. you cant, this ship would be dangerous and unstable.not to mention its just not enough space for a proper function.

The address part of this in the episode, simply each one of those functions would be smaller, the shuttle Bay in the Enterprise is vastly oversized, and he said it was a compact powerful warp-core.

No, no, no, no, neck is too long, for it's size. Also MSD makes no sense. If you punch so many interal systems into such small space there would be no space for any quaters with windows. And there are windows in secondary hull (and one in hangar bay???). Also I dont see how one well paced shot of enemy weapon could destroy entire ship. OR WHAT WORSE. There is no space between decks for Jefferies Tubes. David is making up things on the fly during this episode... really?

Yeah, shorten the neck and make the secondary hull a little longer, or put the shuttle bay behind the bridge, and it would be a nice looking ship.
