Well, I tried this and the I5 as new possible company cars, and I chose this, as the backseat space is miles ahead of the I5, the Android auto is the best software next to Tesla I think, and working with the shortcuts makes it so easy to use on the fly. I was also sceptical about the rearview mirror, but also had plenty of cars with so limited visibility out the back, that this is a huge upgrade over.

My Lexus RZ450e has the electrochromatic tint but it still gets very hot inside in the summer. Once again really good detail and some fun, thank you. There is so much Polestar have got right in trying to reimagine what a car should be. The deal breakers for me, as ever, are the UI/UX plus central iPad. The even bigger deal breakers are that it looks as if the software is still flaky and that oven roof. Even in rainy grey England an oven roof does not work. By contrast the comparator Macan seems to have made better UI/UX decisions and the handling should be sharper. Price at €84k makes me wonder whether I will have more fun with an Alfa, Mini, or Smart at around half that cost.

The lack of a rear window makes no difference for me, the rear view mirror works the same way with a camera. My concern with this car is the amount of software based functions, as Volvo / Polestar softwares hasn't been the most reliable.
@godofdunАй бұрын
22:10 I think removing the back window let them move back the roof structure, allowing the increased seat recline without hitting your head and moving seat back for more legroom. All of that you are enjoying right here. It's certainly still ok to think that tradeoff isn't worth it, to each their own, but Polestar did achieve their goal here in my opinion. What I don't like is the tesla-like moving of so many things to the screen. Just let me move my own vents.
@autogefuehlАй бұрын
ye that was the point but there are plenty of cars with headroom out there which have a rear window, plus this one doesnt have much headroom...
@godofdunАй бұрын
@@autogefuehl Oh for sure an unstated reason is to make up for their poor packaging (it's a problem on the 2 and 3 as well), as well as the coupe shape. I'm a sucker for coupe shape vehicles across the board but the rear windows usually end up somewhere between hilarious and pathetic, so just ditching it seems like something not worth fighting over. I wish they'd kept the shooting brake/estate roof line of the Zeekr 001 brother, I think that's the real tragedy.
@autogefuehlАй бұрын
yeah..
@benjaminsmith2287Ай бұрын
It's too much based on the Zeekr001 IMO. I prefer a Volvo-based Polestar. Look at the seat controls. Volvo uses one rectangular button, this car doesn't. A lot of this car is Polestar design over the Zeekr001 interior. That's why it has a landscape opposed to portrait center screen. It looks nice, but like a Zeekr001. I think Polestar made it more firm and responsive and chassis stiffer so it feels like a proper Polestar. But there are aspects of it that are not Polestar. I'd test another Polestar 3 because it shouldn't be so noisy at high speeds. See how the EX90 is at high speeds. Because the Polestar 3 is strongly based on the EX90. The Polestar Precept didn't have a back window so that's a Polestar design feature. The Polestar 5 will not have one either. I think the new management should find a designer like Missonni, drop the Polestar 6 and accellerate development of the Polestar 7, the smaller, less expensive, entry-model Polestar. They don't need a nice-looking but extremely expensive halo car. They need a good seller and the Polestar 2 is getting old. And for people saying this car is Chinese or Chinese designed, you are mistaken. Polestar has plenty of info and videos out showing the teams that design and engineer Polestars and none of them are from Geely. They're Europeans based in Sweden or England. Just because a brand has a Chinese owner doesn't mean that owner has changed a Swedish or English brand into t a Chinese one. And even if some of them use a platform that is shared, the platforms are modified for the brand. Lamborghini uses a VW platform as does Bentley. Doesn't make Lambo or Bentley German.
@UKRennaАй бұрын
Exactly. When I had an issue, the engineers dealing with it were in Sweden, not China.

Thanks for your great car reviews. I made a short test drive of the Polestar 4 and found it a nice ride. My problem with the rear view "mirror" though was that as I use multifocal glasses for my nearsightedness to have a clear view at distant objects through the windscreen, my view of the rear view mirror at close range became blurred. I asked the dealer about this and they did not have an immediate solution, except for mentioning that the manufacturer was considering some programming to "soften" the image in the mirror to reduce this feeling of blurred view. I do not know how that will play out but from my personal point of view I have to consider this system unsuitable. Otherwise, I think the car is a good alternative, especially pricewise to its competitors.
@autogefuehlАй бұрын
Thanks! Interesting! Thanks for the feedback. Thats a very important point. So you are saying that the camera mirror would be near focus whereas the real mirror is long focus aight?

Thanks for the detailed review! I saw the car in the showroom recently, and the interior quality is absolutely top-notch. I compared it to the Polestar 3 and didn’t get that car at all. I mean it has 22kW AC charging, has a frunk, nice interior with good features (storing, cupholders, all seats heated, room in the back, etc.), good software, good trunk space etc. If anything, it's quirky with the missing rear window but the camera implementation seems well thought and the camera wont get dirty easily, or at least so it would seem. My only issue is the price and its place in the Polestar models range but yeah they will probably resolve that in the future

You know the new CEO being a financial guy will drive cost out of Polestar models attempting to achieve profitability, so perhaps the windowless rear of the Polestar 4 will be replaced with a conventional rear window. They have capacitive integrated to both visualise on the display what button your finger is on and for the system to be sure there is a finger on the button pressed and not the palm of your hand as an example. Swiping your hand over the buttons will flicker on the display but not do anything as you still have to physically touch them. Have this experience with my Volvo EX30. Agree though that there are still glitches in the Polestar 4 software
@autogefuehlАй бұрын
as far as I understand, there is one button per side, and where you press then changes stuff, they dont have multiple button fields per steering wheel side. So its a one-push-button with several capacitive fields on top
@eugenelawrence8517Ай бұрын
@autogefuehl exactly. So you still need to physically push it. Capacitive alone won't do anything like VW for example

The rear window situation is just stupid - just a adds more potential points of failure. I guess it's a bit cheaper to manufacture if you'd have the cameras anyway but still.. It doesn't even look good
@GlitterGuruАй бұрын
How are there additional points of failure? The window is gone, the waterproofing is gone, the wiper blade is gone... is just the camera that can fail. Besides that, removing the window allows the C/D pillar to be pushed back farther, in turn pushing the rear seats back farther, creating tons of head and leg room. Not pointless.

I saw it half year ago and sat into it. I think it DOES look amazing
@VahndammeАй бұрын
Clearly you haven't been in one, driven one or seen one in real life. Because there's less points of failure.. the benefits far outweigh the 'negative' which is just adapting to a rear view camera instead.. and honestly the camera is a positive, especially in harsh conditions haha.. I have driven my car for a week now without being able to look out my back window.. no wiper, nothing.

It is really really stupid to put glove box switch in infotainment screen. It is more stupid to initiate steering wheel setting from infotainment screen and continue from a steering wheel button. I can't believe how these were signed off. Really stupid.
@poulpedersen5363Ай бұрын
I open my glove box 1 every year, so for me it's completely irrelevant where to open it. You set the steering wheel and seat once, then they auto adjust to your user every time you get in the car, so again, completely irrelevant that you have to adjust them via the screen and steering wheel once.

I would like to correct him on the steering wheel adjustment though, there is a lever you can release beneath the wheel which allows you manually adjust it, as I've been doing for the past days

Hi there, fantastic and comprehensive review. Thank you for that. I watched many reviews of PS4 and none mentioned the constant low frequency motor / battery electric humming that is inside the cabin. I did 4 test drives and every time the sound was there. Polestar guys were mixed in their explanations, but the fact is the sound is there and it’s annoying. At least to my ears. Have you experienced it?

@@autogefuehl yes, I guess the sound is always there, but it gets obscured at higher speeds. I appreciate the regulations, but presumably it’s for the pedestrians. Why does the sound get into the cabin? PS3 and 2 does not have this sound, neither BMW i5, Porsche Taycan or Tesla. But good to know, thank you for confirming. Keep up the good job!

Given how closely you tested this after the Polestar 3, that both were Performance Pack equipped, and that you were able to test them in the same settings, what's your overall preference from a driving experience perspective? Is the air suspension and chassis tuning in the Polestar 3 enough to give it a sportier drive characteristic that's comparable to the lower Polestar 4? And given that Polestar (and Volvo) consistently underrate their 0-60 times, how different do those two feel from each other in acceleration? You also didn't mention anything about the Harman Kardon system in this. It's been getting mixed reviews from those that have taken delivery or gone on test drives. I know the one in our local showroom performs below our Polestar 2 which is also equipped with the HK sound system, even though the Polestar 4 has more power and more speakers.
@nbvolksАй бұрын
And also, I really enjoyed the interaction the two of you had on this video (and others). I agree with your comment that it's about being informative, but also you can have some fun while doing it!
@autogefuehlАй бұрын
highly appreciate that!
@autogefuehlАй бұрын
Good question. The Polestar 4 has way better efficiency at high speeds, thats what we pointed out. And it is lower in the price. 2 most important aspects. Everything else, especially the air suspension like you mentioned, speak for the Polestar 3 for me. I would always take the P3. You also feel that the P3 is a Volvo, whereas the P4 is a Geely.
@nbvolksАй бұрын
@@autogefuehl thank you. I was asking, because we had/have a reservation for a Polestar 4, but Polestar announced that all P4s coming to the US are delayed until April at the earliest, which I think we all know what that means in Polestar-speak. So we now ordered a Launch Edition P3, also with Performance Pack that we should have by next month. It's a shame, because I really liked the P4 and figured it might have more of a sporty/dynamic handling driving experience, since it is more of a saloon/sedan. But the P3 isn't really all that much taller, and it seems like the air suspension, and the rear toque vectoring, really compensates for the added weight over the P4. So maybe in the end they'd be very similar on Alpine style backroads.

@autogefuehlАй бұрын
I d rather go for the i5, easier to control, brand is stable and the 5 Series has great comfort. Get the comfort seat (comfort package) in the veganza seats, then it also has seat cooling and comfort seats are way better than the standard sports seats. Dont take M package and leave it with a more sophisticated look :) You can see the base look also in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/momboKJ5iK-Vjck

I’m worried about the future of the brand, they are trying to compete with Porsche and the brand doesn’t have the same draw, even if the product is as good as if not better in places than Porsche. I don’t know how long Geely will keep them afloat, their next car needs to be something special, more desirable. This is a wonderfully designed car, but this isn’t it.
@TomaszJakubKusienickiАй бұрын
Such a shame, I also do not expect this one to sell well. I own Polestar 2 and I really, really like it. I hoped they will iterate on those, but it seems they are getting despret. This is just Zeekr001 with a weird body. PS I have a panoramic roof and I think it is great. I park mostly in a garage, but when i park outside I just turn on the AC on the way to car so it is nice and cold when I am back. When you drive fast the air cool the roof and it does not get very hot, so only in the heavy traffic you can sometimes feel a bit the heat, but again, AC does the job.
