There seem to be a few people who think the driver alert system constantly nagging , disturbing, and distracting me is "user error" because the system can be turned of. If you cannot drive the car in a normal fashion without these system triggering alert after alert and warning after warning, and the system has to be turned off - then I'd argue that defeats the whole point of the system and in practice renders it useless. Furthermore, when this is behaviour that I do not experience in any other car I test or have tested in the past four years on the channel (100+ cars). I'd say this behaviour is neither the norm or positive, and should be highlighted for potential buyers. If your cars ESP systems is constantly interfering, disturbing and distraction you under normal driving. The problem isn't you, the problem is with the car - even if ESP can be turned off. This is not different. Defending a system that is flawed does not help anybody, except for the manufacturer save face. And the user is the one who loses.

I understand the importance of pointing out annoyances like this feature, but the tone in the first few seconds set a strong impression that felt a bit different from your usual balanced reviews. It came across as an outright recommendation not to buy the car based on this one feature, which felt heavy-handed, especially since your videos are typically more measured. This time, I almost stopped watching in the first few minutes, which I normally wouldn't with your content. Of course, it's your channel and your opinion-completely respected-but for me, this review style felt like a departure and even bordered on clickbait. Just my personal take, but I think a more balanced approach in the tone, like in the second half, would better suit the depth of your reviews. Let's see how others feel-maybe it’s just me!

It is a fucking useless system and it is only there because it is a requirement in the EU. Turn it off. What did you even expect when you are talking to a camera and looking away most of the time?

I love this Polestar 4 ! Absolutely amazing car !
@yolo6741Ай бұрын
I really enjoy your videos about EVs, especially the ones on Polestar! I had the chance to test drive this model for four days back in October with the previous software version. I found the driver alert feature could be disabled within minutes, and even with it on, it didn't remind me to focus as often-it might be more sensitive when recording from the passenger seat. To keep the tone balanced, maybe a quick edit or a note around 8:12 (or even at the beginning 0:03) could clarify this feature can be easily disabled. It's a great car, and I feel it would be a shame to base a decision on this one functionality that’s more of a minor setting tweak. Keep up the awesome content!

Telling people not to buy a car just because the safety system is very sensitive (and driver is not driving the way it was intended to be driven - recording a video and looking away from the road and hands off steering wheel continuously) makes no sense. Say it’s sensitive and a little annoying is fine - does it do the job it was intended to do - yes. Don’t buy the car because of it - that’s just stupid. Especially considering it can be switched off.
@KrisRifaАй бұрын
Sorry, but I totally disagree. What you saw here is just a few minutes driving in total out of a two hour trip where it constantly kept nagging me when I was driving normally. I was opnly looking at the camera for a total of six minutes out of two hours, and it kept at like this the whole way. At one point I even considered stopping the whole test because it was so bad. So what you call "drama" is my genuine frustration, which I think is very important to show. Yes it can be turned off, and that "solves" a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place, and I also show that. And the most important thing there is NO OTHER CAR DOES THIS. No other cars nags and frustrates the driver like these, even when filming. A safety system that has to be switched off defeats the whole point of the system. I do not understand why people insists on DEFENDING a flawed product that even the Polestar engineers admit isn't working properly.

@@KrisRifatry out the new cupra terramar released 2 weeks ago. Its the same with the driver alert system turned it of too because it got on my nerves
@petergrainger4970Ай бұрын
Why didn’t you just edit out the user error part of this video? It’s very frustrating to watch when we all know there’s a button to turn that warning off and you’re criticising the software.
@KrisRifaАй бұрын
So in your world, a function that makes the car undriveable is a user error when it is on? Talk about apologetics... Obviously we don't all know, as shown in the video. All my criticism is still 100% valid, why wouldn't it be? Good journalism shown both sides, not only the good and sensors the bad. For that there are plenty of other channels you can watch.
@petergrainger4970Ай бұрын
@ I test drove that car a while back for an hour. Turning off the fatigue warning alarm was the first thing I did before we set off. It’s hardly hidden in the menu. Like you say, you do this for a living. Turning that off should not be the topic of a review. Just my opinion, Kris.
@KrisRifaАй бұрын
@@petergrainger4970 yes I do this for a living and turning this system off in any car is a fault on the car and not the user. Blaming the user for an unfinished product is kin to victim blaming. I had a Polestar 4 for over a week, and have driven them for several hours on multiple occasions, and this issue has not been anywhere close to this annoying in any of those other cars. Why would this car then get a "free" pass? Your logic is flawed. Lastly, it is not just the fatigue warning system, but driver warning in general. As shown in the video several times, it doesn't matter where you look, at the infotainment, at my camera, out the side window or at the drivers display the cars nags and gives you a warning. There is not way that system is intended to work that way. Like with the Volvo EX30 driver alert that nags when you look to the left when entering a round about. "Turning that off should not be the topic of a review." Then go out and do your own videos, instead of telling others how they should make videos on their own channel. Just my opinion. Geez

@@KrisRifa I think what Peter is referring to is the intro-clip. I understand that it is tough to get people to watch a full video, but it is a bit cheeky to open the video with a statement that you later take back.

This video is not very professional as a car reviewer. If I wanted drama I’d watch a TV show. You normally have good content which I enjoy. Also you were constantly looking at the camera and using your hands - no wonder it was having an issue.

I think the latest software has corrected a lot of the issues I was suffering from. I've never had the driver alert bonging at me like you are getting in the previous software, or the current version. The biggest two fixes for me were for the ACC which is now as good as it was in any Mercedes, BMW, VW which has been fitted with the same tech, the other fix is features not starting up like the heads-up display, which thankfully is also now fixed. Also remembering the setting for the 360 cameras and starting with the correct driver profile also now stable. Still loving my car after 2K miles.

It is interesting when you have issues with the driver alert because I have had one case with my P4 and that was when i was scratching my forehead my hand covering my other eye. Tbh I would also be annoyed the car beeping at me all the time! The 4.1.10 doesnt have pre-conditioning atm. It was disabled by Polestar due to an unexpecred bug and will be implemented in future update. Dont know when tho which is unfortunate...

@@KrisRifa Yes it is true and it wasnt there in 4.1.9 either. Polestar informed about this at their community forum late October. The biggest question for now is when but that wasnt disclosed. Winter is close and would be more than ideal for road trips

I expected that as a car reviewer you would have familiarized yourself with the car's functions. On the steering wheel you can turn off safety functions with a press, you can even make a quick shortcut on the screen.

Seems like we have Polestar fans that are as rabid as Tesla fans. The complaint regarding the driver alert system is a fair criticism also raised in other reviews.

I'm a Polestar fan and drive a Polestar 4 for over a month now. To be fair i agree with the points of critique. The software and efficiency of the car is an issue that cannot be denied. I also understand the criticism of the driver alert system. I have no issue with deactivating it, but as a software developer i fully agree that deployed functionalities should work and not be annoying for the user.

I‘m very impressed by your videos of the Polestar 4 I‘m currently searching for a new car and thought it might be this car. I‘ve owned a EQS, a Taycan and a new Model S. I think the German cars are way too expensive and Tesla is for me a never-buy-again. The Model S was so flawed I didn‘t want to have it. But After seeing your videos of the PS 4 I wouldn‘t buy it.

Yeah I think it is insulting to Polestar's prospective customers that they release a car for sale with this shitty software in such "premium" car. I mean tbh we all know it's a cheap zeekr 001 dressed better and the software is the same chinese OS just translated to other languages. Probably the Polestar software team don't even know how to code that OS and they just refer feedback to the chinese Zeekr team and thats why the software is shit. Probably at Polestar they think "ah well yeah it's kinda shit we ain't gonna fix the software, let's hope we get some sales regardless and maybe get the OS right in the next car then".
