im a 33 year old man im slim but i have injured knees and bad ankles and my elbow aint feeling to hot either ...i used to dance but i was allways embarisingly unflexible and immobile for a dancer and i was allways overly cautious with the acrobatic side of dancing due to fear of injury ironicly that didnt spare me injury im quite wrecked ..but im somehow entranced by the idea of pole dancing do you reckon its an option ?

@@ashley-fk6dp Hi Ashley :) Some of my students have some joint problems too. There are all kinds of different moves in pole which allows many people to participate. Moves you don't need to be flexible for or even take your feet of the floor (the more dancey lighter styles). You can always give it a try and see how it feels. If you do classes, an instructor should be able to modify moves if you experience difficulties. Listen to your body and if you are concerned, there are pole physios who can advise you on safety which may be a good option since you have injury.

The best tip I got from my instructor that has made me relax and enjoy pole so much more was "you don't owe anybody anything during your time here". That one statement took so much pressure off of my perfectionist shoulders and let me just have fun and enjoy moving around with a group of fun ladies

I love this, Melissa! What a great instructor 👏 Pole can be especially challenging for us perfectionists. Really proud you are finding tools that work for you to enjoy pole rather than feel stressed by it! ❤

Pole dancing hurts. Really hurts, it hurt my ankle so much when learning to climb, but the more you do it, the more you can cope and get used to it I never did gymnastics, the most I can do is a cartwheel, yet I think I’m getting used to pole dancing and doing good! Never give up ❤

I have super sweaty palms and feet (hyperhydrosis) and poor upper body strength and grip, so i am having a really hard time. I used tite grip 1 on my palms and it helps a bit. Getting Dry Hands soon to layer over. I also got a pole to install at home to practise more. Everyone in class is advancing faster, really demoralizing sometimes

Sounds tough! I know some people use grippy gloves just so they can participate, as I am not so sure the best products for hyperhydrosis. Let me know what products you liked, would be helpful to know so I can suggest some good ones to my students :D

I really genuinely appreciate you making this video. Finding your channel has been a blessing for me. I am recovering from a brain bleed stroke 16 surgeries and hemiparalysis open-heart surgery and I have a lot of medical history Mary by their medical error. I just bought a bowl and I am going to start using it to be a form of physical therapy. I have all of my body back now except for my left arm and hand. I feel like I will be able to do this though, after watching your video. It has taken me 5 1/2 years to regain this much function to relearn how to speak my few languages including of course my first language, English! To be able to write this, walk, use my hand, that unfortunately never happened. So, I’m going at this with two legs and one hand. I really really appreciate your video and kind words of wisdom. I am confident that this will be a lot of help that once my pole is set up that this video will be my biggest helper. Thank you. ❤

Apparently shaving blisters down helps. However, I’m a high intermediate pole dancer now, and I still get bloody blisters 😅
@loadingresourcesdotdot
@loadingresourcesdotdot Жыл бұрын
It’s best to just leave blisters alone and let them heal themselves. The fluid inside is to protect the skin underneath, so popping them or messing with them can expose or worsen the damage of the skin underneath and it’ll take longer to heal.

Is there anything you recommend to strengthen the upper body, I’m a bigger girl and I feel like I can’t hold myself at as (I’m also trying to lose weight to help that)
@PoletatoJemPoleDancer
@PoletatoJemPoleDancer 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Jennifer! Good on you for thinking about strengthening work (It's a great idea!). There are sooo many upper body strengthening exercises you'll find on the internet! Here's my advice based on what I've learnt from Neola Wilby's Strength and Conditioning for Pole book: 1) Off the pole training is great to get your muscles gradually prepared for on the pole work and to increase strength. 2) Strengthen by using resistance either by by doing moves which use your own body weight or using resistance bands or dumbbells (start with lighter weights first!). I suggest resistance bands before dumbbells as you can focus on engaging the correct muscles with less pressure. 3) Ideally you want to strengthen in all plains of motion (flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, internal and external rotation). These can be technical terms but if you search up "shoulder [insert motion e.g. flexion] exercises" then you'll be able to see what these movements look like. 4) For beginner moves which are using your arms upright, you are doing a vertical pull motion. So to help pull yourself up eventually on the pole, you want to do vertical pulling exercises off the pole which you can do with a resistance band tied to a fixed object e.g. a staircase post/pole. Also note that you are not just using your shoulder to hold you up but other muscles too such as your lats and pecs. So practise engaging those muscles too without resistance, then with resistance. This video explains it really well! kzbin.info/www/bejne/roWQd3eZhdaWhqM 6) Start small and go slow! Start with easier moves and gradually increase to ones that are more tricky or require more weight from your body/ dumbbells. 7) Another way you can strengthen your upper body by doing other exercises which are less strain on your body like Yoga, Pilates, basic gymnastics/acro moves. I hope I didn't overwhelm you! There's just so much I could say on this topic and plan to make a video for beginner strengthening and conditioning for pole! If you can't find videos on exercises using the muscles/movements above, let me know and I'll send some links! 💗

@@PoletatoJemPoleDancer this is the best advice I’ve gotten 🥺🫶🏻 honestly thank you so much! And don’t worry you haven’t overwhelmed me at all! I think the only thing that can get overwhelming is not being able to hold on to the pole and use it like pros (and I know they’re pros, so I can’t compare myself but I think it’s a habit for everyone 😂). But thank you once again
