Not even gonna lie I bought a pole before doing pole fitness idk how people can practice without it I know it’s possible but I love having a pole at home I’m on it at least once a day
@PoletatoJemPoleDancer3 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree! It’s hard to practise pole without an actual pole! After my first pole class I loved it so much that I was already thinking of buying a pole! That’s amazing! Most people I know who have a pole at home (including myself) hardly go on it. It’s the curse of having a home pole 😆 So well done for using it so often! 👏🏼👏🏼

My sliding comes from the fact that I sweat toooooo much😭I prefer conditioning on the pole but after a few minutes I'm sliding right off in a sweaty mess.
@PoletatoJemPoleDancer3 жыл бұрын
😂😂 feel your pain. This is soooo me, especially during the summer 🥵I have to use a microfiber towel to absorb my excess sweat or ask our pole teacher to turn on the AC which has helped a tonne. Lemme know if any of these work for you too! I'll be curious to know your tips and tricks 😉 Another random thing is apparently some pole types are easier to stick to when you are sweaty like brass poles are less slidy than chrome (I can definitely agree with this!). So if your studio has different options you could try brass out. What kind of pole do you have at home if you have one?

Amazing strategy right?! I was mind blown when I realised this was the missing piece to the puzzle for me to do so many moves, particularly relying on leg grip!

I just tried my first pole class and felt really defeated because from research I did, every single studio said "come at any level of fitness, no experience required" and it became pretty clear that this just isn't true. I simply don't have the strength to pull my whole weight up, so I couldn't complete a single spin. I really couldn't even try the different types of spins because the first step was to push off the ground and I can't. It was really disheartening because it looks so fun but I don't think I'll ever be able to just pull myself straight up. And the actual pole climbing? My attempt left me sprawled on the ground. 🤦♀️

Hi Melissa, Thanks for sharing and it sounded like a rough first class! I would have felt the same way! One thing I have learnt from pole is that it’s a real patience game. Pole is firstly a very hard sport! It does require a lot of strength and mobility. Even after 2 years of pole, I find beginner spins hard because I will just slide right off! And we all start from different levels of ability and so some people click with pole faster than others whether that be from being genetically blessed with natural strength or from having past sporting experience which can be transferred to pole. This can also be disheartening to see people being able to do the tricks we can’t. So it can take a while to build up to even holding ourselves up on the pole. I suggest having a go at some off the pole strengthening to get your body as prepped as you can and also reduce risk of injury. Then trying some pole moves which are not spins requiring you to hold your entire body weight during spins. If you’d like, my most recent video has some tricks which you might find more comfortable for you and help you start to warm up to the pole. I wish you luck and I know it’s super frustrating and disheartening but I hope you can stay in there and see some small successes as you slowly keep going with it 💕 Also, know that slow and steady is better than forcing fast progress leading to frustration/injury!

@@PoletatoJemPoleDancer Thank you. I signed up for an "on the ground" dance class and bought some home equipment like a kettlebell and hopefully I can find something enjoyable that doesn't end with me actually breaking a limb 😂

Hello! I just did an intro series of classes and we weren’t even allowed to try to get off the ground until class 4. They wanted to make sure we were safe and building strength over time. I hope you find a studio like that! Look for one with photos of lots of different body types! 🥰

Dry your hands (and body, if needed) if perspiration is a problem. If dryness is an issue, a warm-up is fine, but avoid shaving foam or gel that contains too much moisturizer - it will make you slide more! Good luck in finding your 'just right' combo.

My question for you gem is what if your body sweats way to much within my first 10 minutes I’m drenched and can no longer do any tricks until I completely cool down I drip so much sweat I slide down the pole
@xx.ultraviolet3 жыл бұрын
Iike I can grip fine without anything it’s just once I start sweating pole is over for me my legs slide in a sit
@PoletatoJemPoleDancer3 жыл бұрын
Hi @@xx.ultraviolet, great question! Sounds like you have great moisturised skin allowing you to stick to the pole without grip aids! (I’m jealous 😂). Me too! Im so glad you have brought this up. I sweat veryyy easily especially during hot months where the the problem becomes being too sweaty and sliding right off the pole. My absolute ‘must have’ is a micro fibre towel. It works great! It will allow you to absorb all the excess sweat instantly so you don’t need to wait to cool down. You could also use a regular towel too! Let me know how it goes :D

I keep a spray bottle with 1 part vodka, 3 parts water and a hand towel. I have to wipe down my pole after every move i try lol. I’m hoping my hands will just condition themselves to stop sweating so much 😂 but keeping the pole clean has helped a ton

Vodka is expensive I suggest just cleaning pure 90° alcohol

I bought the Xpole Xpert in Chrome a few months ago. I find it so slippery! Is there a way to make it so it's not slippery anymore? I have tried dry hands and it makes it worse. I read that the chrome has some sort of finish on it that makes it slippery. I heard dish soap helps, which it does - but it's only good for 2 or 3 spins before I start to slip again. 😭 My pole sits in my basement, and it's pretty cold down there. I even have the pole warmer, which I use for at least an hour before I use it. It helps, but still slippery. Any advice? 😅
