Police did not "clash with protesters". Protest organizers (who used students as intermediaries, but students did not organize the riot) were told their protest plans were illegal. They said they would ignore the administration and riot anyway. They were asked multiple times to disperse. Then they were arrested. Most arrests were for assaulting officers doing their job. Do your job. Don't spread misinformation.

The only actual problem was blockading and refusing to allow people to freely move as they have the right to do so. That's why all the other dozen or so protests and assemblies that have been going on for months have been fine, because it's a mutual respect and acknowledgement of the freedom of both sides, and of those who choose not to engage in it. The blockade only serves the purpose of a police presence to remove it, again by force, and the whole spectacle getting in the news. Because honestly, nobody heard about the dozens of other assemblies over the last 6 months. But it's also foolishly believing that this actually wins more people to their side than it loses. Well, and it's also illegal.

Students want to be able to go to class and study to make sure they pass classes that cost thousands of dollars. (A different problem, regarding education.) Apparently a majority of the people being arrested are not students. With over 50% of the people arrested on campus at UT Austin, not students. Unsure about the other schools. If interested please look into it. In a statement sent by UT spokesperson Brian Davis, the university said: "To date, from protesters, weapons have been confiscated in the form of guns, buckets of large rocks, bricks, steel enforced wood planks, mallets, and chains," the statement read. "Staff have been physically assaulted and threatened, and police have been headbutted and hit with horse excrement, while their police cars have had tires slashed with knives." Protesters at Columbia University took over a hall, barricading themselves in, and refused to leave. Causing property damage and interfering with learning. From the New York Times: “The people who took over the building were an offshoot of a larger group of protesters who had been camping out on campus in an unauthorized pro-Palestinian demonstration. On Tuesday night, more than 100 of them - people inside the hall along with others outside on campus and those beyond Columbia’s gates - were arrested…..
