@Rabbi Tannenbaum are you just trolling cuz I find it impossible to believe that someone could actually possess such a dumb and uninformed opinion. Nobody cares about their home electrical when there is an armed intruder in the home. Most people would sacrifice the entire home just to ensure they and their children live through an altercation. The criminals are gonna have long rifles regardless of the law so shouldn’t citizens possess an equally capable firearm(s)?

As I’ve read, he was there sooner. An entire CBP tactical team held outside by cops who had jurisdictional authority. I am fervently opposed to increasing centralized authority - yet I am considering pushing for legal changes allowing federal officer to over-ride local authority in cases like this. Would have preferred they’d ignored the law - but they are law enforcement and it’s a bit much to ask.

My experience when I worked for a police department was that many of the officers were lazy and looking to simply avoid any problems so that they could collect a lifetime pension after 20 years. If asked to actually go on patrol, some would file discrimination complaints or otherwise avoid work as much as possible. They didn't join the force to face danger, they just want the benefits. Thats why they always show you cops helping the kitty get out of the tree, no one is shooting at them then. They are basically overpaid people that you can't rely on. Good Video

I hope every single one of these parents sues the shit out of this department. I was doing some digging, and while it's true, cops have "no duty to protect", there may be some saving grace to hold these cowards accountable. Police have no duty to protect ABSENT "a special relationship between the police and an individual". Children in public school are under government custody. I'm no lawyer, but that sure does sound like a special relationship between police and all those children. Regardless, the more that comes out about this case, the most livid I become. Not only did these pieces of shit stand around and gossip for an hour while 19 kids were slaughtered, they actively PREVENTED parents from going to save their own children. I really hope this entire town makes it their life long goal to hold ever last one of those cowards accountable.

As someone who graduated with his bachelor's in criminology you're spot on about the systemic issues with police in the United States. There are multiple psychological and sociological explanations why the U.S. Police force is composed of people who are so cowardly and also misuse their authority and victimize people more than they protect them. Don't even get me started on the racial profiling man. I'm from California and I've seen that way too much. For all of you who think California doesn't have racist fucking cops think again. Mainly it's the fact that the police aren't obligated to save anyone, and if we study their history they have always been used mainly just to protect private property of the most wealthy and the political class, keep employees from striking too violently, and mainly keeping the poor in line. Police culture is also toxic as hell, there are cases of internal issues that get revealed every day nationally. We're talking about covering up bad behaviors that includes sexual assault allegations, misuse of force that costs people lives, egregious injury, domestic abuse, etc. They view themselves as separate from a population of would be criminals, so they always end up violently hurting people in disgusting ways. Tired of the police. I'd prefer us to police ourselves. We can do it, we don't fucking need them.

I wonder if there were a well regulated institution which was meant to do this job before we handed that responsibility over to the police. Also, if you could post a couple links to the studies on departmental culture and other systemic issues with the police I'd like to read those. I have a theory that DHS involvement contributed to the cultural degradation of the police force. Shifting the focus to counter terrorism built a mindset of "us versus them" and caused officers to act like they were outside the wire in a combat zone rather than in their own community.

The schools I attended growing up all had locked doors. After morning admission all doors were locked and you had to be buzzed in through a CCTV system at the main entrance to get in. My school district also had armed school police officers on campus. And because all my schools were located in the hood, we had metal grates on all first floor windows to prevent break-ins/vandalism. So that added another layer of protection. And this was the late 90's, so this isn't anything new.

I used to live in Illinois. When I heard that they were probably going to pass a concealed carry bill, I spent 4 years preparing myself mentally every day to be a "sheepdog". My biggest concern was whether I was either brave enough or dumb enough to run towards the gunfire. My conclusion, and my commitment, was that I would be that guy to try to stop the bad guy. I've had a great life and I have no kids, so I am the logical choice to risk my life for my fellow man (or woman). I live in a less restrictive state now and have my CHL. I put my gun on everyday right after I put on my pants. I hope I never have to fire it except during practice, but if something like a school shooting goes down like in Uvalde, I hope I am nearby. Someone has to stand up to evil. You can't just talk about it. You need people that will take action, unlike the cowards that just stood by. For those officers that have given their lives in the line of duty, you have my utmost respect. May you rest in peace and always be remembered. During my 20 years as a hard-working law enforcement officer, I came to see a disturbing trend of victim blaming going on by the majority of cops. It's always easier to blame and manipulate the unsuspecting innocent victims rather than have the courage to take on a impending safety issue. And of course afterwards you stand around with your partners and pat yourselves on the back. I see that during the last two years of the pandemic and George Floyd fallout, cowards have fully infiltrated our departments. What a shame and in this case huge huge tragedy. My heart goes out to all those parents and children and staff. Welcome to a country with third world levels police services

I agree with you 100% on this. This was an extreme case of dereliction of duty, starting with the Officer in charge on scene that called for the "barricaded shooter" response. The parents should sue the pants off of all the agencies that responded to the scene and sat there while people were being killed. This dude just turned 18 and had just purchased his firearms. He had no experience shooting, and likely could've been neutralized without being able to do the amount of damage that he did.

As we saw with the riots.. police have no obligation to protect anyone and they will not protect anyone if they are even a little worried. Legally, if they are afraid for their safety they don't have to help. They're also minimally trained to get insurance by and large. Only special units get actual firearms and tactics training and funding for consistent practice.. especially enough to have confidence in a gun fight they have the option to not respond to.

Most of the classes I've been were 25-75% active duty police spending their own money to get better. I've also trained police myself to help them pass their rifle qualifications. Unless they are a specialized unit, you'd be lucky if your average cop even knows what kind of gun they carry and what caliber it is.. never mind know how to use it effectively. Yes we all know police protocol dictates that when confronting an armed assailant who is on a killing rampage, you never ever engage him. Despite tax payers money paying for level 4 body armor, armed helmets, assault rifles, and basically top of the line equipment. Still its much better to take cover and just wait for the sicko to murder everyone, its not like your job description has "to protect and serve" in the title. My friends would always get mad at me when I'd tell them cops are the biggest cowards out there who literally afraid of their own shadows. Thats why so many unarmed people get shot by them. They only act thought with law biding citizens they know have no intention of doing anything illegal, but when they come face to face with an equal adversary, you see what these "finest in the uniform" are really made out of.

The worst we got was some kid prank calling the police making a phoney bomb threat, so everyone would have to go outside while the cops searched the school. These only happened on really nice days. In the 50's schools had rifle clubs. The only intruders who went into the school were the occasional stray dogs we let in. It was always great fun watching the teachers trying to catch them.
