I'm no lawyer, but that sure does sound like a special relationship between police and all those children. Regardless, the more that comes out about this case, the most livid I become. As someone who graduated with his bachelor's in criminology you're spot on about the systemic issues with police in the United States. There are multiple psychological and sociological explanations why the U.S. Police force is composed of people who are so cowardly and also misuse their authority and victimize people more than they protect them. Don't even get me started on the racial profiling man. I'm from California and I've seen that way too much. For all of you who think California doesn't have racist fucking cops think again. Mainly it's the fact that the police aren't obligated to save anyone, and if we study their history they have always been used mainly just to protect private property of the most wealthy and the political class, keep employees from striking too violently, and mainly keeping the poor in line. Police culture is also toxic as hell, there are cases of internal issues that get revealed every day nationally. We're talking about covering up bad behaviors that includes sexual assault allegations, misuse of force that costs people lives, egregious injury, domestic abuse, etc. They view themselves as separate from a population of would be criminals, so they always end up violently hurting people in disgusting ways. Tired of the police. I'd prefer us to police ourselves. We can do it, we don't fucking need them.
@colinsanders93972 жыл бұрын
I wonder if there were a well regulated institution which was meant to do this job before we handed that responsibility over to the police. Also, if you could post a couple links to the studies on departmental culture and other systemic issues with the police I'd like to read those. I have a theory that DHS involvement contributed to the cultural degradation of the police force. Shifting the focus to counter terrorism built a mindset of "us versus them" and caused officers to act like they were outside the wire in a combat zone rather than in their own community.

I've had a great life and I have no kids, so I am the logical choice to risk my life for my fellow man (or woman). I live in a less restrictive state now and have my CHL. I put my gun on everyday right after I put on my pants. I hope I never have to fire it except during practice, but if something like a school shooting goes down like in Uvalde, I hope I am nearby. As we saw with the riots.. police have no obligation to protect anyone and they will not protect anyone if they are even a little worried. Legally, if they are afraid for their safety they don't have to help. They're also minimally trained to get insurance by and large. Only special units get actual firearms and tactics training and funding for consistent practice.. especially enough to have confidence in a gun fight they have the option to not respond to.

Most of the classes I've been were 25-75% active duty police spending their own money to get better. I've also trained police myself to help them pass their rifle qualifications. Yes we all know police protocol dictates that when confronting an armed assailant who is on a killing rampage, you never ever engage him. Despite tax payers money paying for level 4 body armor, armed helmets, assault rifles, and basically top of the line equipment. Still its much better to take cover and just wait for the sicko to murder everyone, its not like your job description has "to protect and serve" in the title. My friends would always get mad at me when I'd tell them cops are the biggest cowards out there who literally afraid of their own shadows. Thats why so many unarmed people get shot by them. They only act thought with law biding citizens they know have no intention of doing anything illegal, but when they come face to face with an equal adversary, you see what these "finest in the uniform" are really made out of.

WTF is it with this shit anyway? When I went to school which was pre Columbine there weren't any school shootings. Al the doors were unlocked and there were no problems resulting from that. The worst we got was some kid prank calling the police making a phoney bomb threat, so everyone would have to go outside while the cops searched the school. These only happened on really nice days. In the 50's schools had rifle clubs. The only intruders who went into the school were the occasional stray dogs we let in. It was always great fun watching the teachers trying to catch them.

The high school I graduated from was built in the late 70’s and every single room with an exterior wall which was 2/3 of them all had a 2x2 hatch leading outside on the lower half of the window. I always assumed this was a fire safety feature but sure seems like an easy protective feature for every classroom in America to have an alternative 2x2 exit either to an adjoining room or outside for rapid egress rather than sitting and waiting their turn to be shot or burn to death
