I know the local range master at every range including the police club range. The range master there is a retired Sargeant from the county sheriff's office. He said save annual qualifying, less than 10% of the force ever shows up to use the free range. And he admits any new shooter with the 8 hour cwp class can qualify the annual qualification. It is that easy.

Dear Mr. Yank, For many reasons I won't take time to explain, I have watched your channel more than any other gun channel and I appreciate your efforts on many levels. Your technical firearms knowledge is obviously extensive and your understanding of the associated physics is highly commendable. I've seen a few of your videos about the P320 negligent discharge concerns where user error is always the cause, but I have some questions in my mind I'm hoping you might be willing to offer some further insights on as the debate seems to be far from over in the minds of many. A little backstory: In the 1980's I was a bullseye competitor and got spoiled by smooth & crisp triggers on my 1911's and other target guns. My usual carry gun back then was a cocked and locked 1911 although sometimes I carried S&W 357 Magnums. I couldn't stand Glocks when they came out because the triggers were so awful compared to what I was used to. I also wasn't comfortable with carrying sissy 9mm's but I did like the idea of double stack magazines & pondered getting a 40 S&W. I couldn't quite make up my mind and didn't elect to switch away from a 45 ACP for several years. When the 357 SIG came out in 1994 it made switching to a double stack an easy decision. (Plus, the West German P229's had nice triggers right out of the box.) When the 1994 Brady Bill came along I decided to go ahead and buy other some other pistols including 9mm's since high capacity magazines were going away. I ended up getting a few Glocks even though I didn't like them at first. (I also picked up a Beretta 92 but ended up selling it later without ever firing it because I could not bring myself to carry a 9mm because I wasn't a sissy at the time.) Eventually, I tried one of my Glock 21's in 45 ACP and decided I kind of liked having a double stack 45 ACP even though the trigger was really squishy and gross. I eventually began to value Glocks more over time especially when I factored in the high reliability aspect. A few years later I had a need for a much lighter pistol so I picked up a Baby-Glock in 357 SIG (still not a sissy) and was quite happy with it. After the Sunset of the Brady Bill in 2004, I moved on to a full sized Glock 357 SIG since I liked the extra capacity option. Several years later, I finally succumbed to secretly experimenting in the sissy life when the Glock 43's came out. Although not yet man enough to admit to myself that I was becoming a sissy, I bought one for my brother. After firing it for the first time however, I realized that I was in fact a closeted sissy and I started carrying a Glock 43 whenever I didn't feel like carrying a real gun. I didn't get the urge to go back up in size when the 43X's came out, but then the SIG 365's came along. I ended up deciding to go slightly larger when the 365XL's were introduced and carried one for a couple of years. I want to clarify that I really like SIG's and Glocks when it comes to affordable mass produced semi-auto's for everyday carry. I have also learned to accept that less than ideal triggers are okay for practical applications and are generally "good enough." However, I do feel that the factory Glock triggers are safer than SIG striker fired triggers and not just by a little bit. I was never too uncomfortable with the SIG 365XL's trigger, but I do question if having a fully cocked striker that is "ready to snap" with only a slight change of position is a really good idea? Especially when compared to a Glock's noticeably longer trigger pull that involves pulling the striker back over what is relatively a much greater distance before it builds up enough stored energy to detonate a primer when it is finally released. I almost always agree with most things you tell your viewers, even the things that aren't so popular. In some of your other videos, you've talked about how foolish appendix carry is - and I agree. I also agree that the P320's don't fire by themselves and that the BS complaints reported are due to user mistakes. I also remember when Glocks came out there were some concerns that the five pound triggers were too easy to pull (but at least the strikers didn't get fully cocked until the triggers were fully actuated). If I may ask - when it comes down to "user error" by allowing a condition where the trigger can be nudged resulting in a discharge - how would you feel about carrying a single action gun on your hip every day with it's hammer cocked but no safeties engaged? Would you be willing to carry a Smith & Wesson SA/DA revolver every day with it's hammer cocked? I know there are many more things to consider related to sidearm choices... pro's and con's on all kinds of features including manual safeties or lack thereof, magazine safeties, de-cockers, DAO's, etc. I've seen a number of KZbin channels spewing conflicting information (much of it wrong) about the issues with SIG striker fired pistols - but I haven't watched any that mention the differences between fully cocked striker pistols vs other striker fired arrangements. I'm not saying they aren't out there. I just haven't seen them. Perhaps you might know someone who has made or might make such a video explaining the differences? I'm guessing it might help people to better understand the true source of the problems if they understood the mechanics of what's actually going on. If the differences were more widely understood, it might help Law Enforcement agencies and individuals make better decisions about what they are getting into. By the way, it seems to me I remember Mr. Harrell & Mr. Hackathorn hinting at having some concerns about the ease of discharging the SIG striker fire guns in some of the videos I have watched. I don't claim to know where to draw the line on the fully cocked striker debate - but I do know I don't personally want to have to deactivate a manual safety to fire my carry gun (unless it's a 1911). I'm not opposed to carrying a SIG fully cocked striker pistol but I guess I'll just have to remember to carry a tourniquet and maybe an Israeli bandage when I do. Thanks again for all that you do to educate us on guns, 2A issues, Fudds and for helping to educate us about how to protect ourselves from Werewolves. P.S.: I'm still not ready to break the news to my parents about my 9mm issues.

Are there any statistics on Police negligent discharges with various types of guns (hammer fired vs striker fired; pistol vs revolver)?
@comfortgeezer200 Жыл бұрын
SIG vs Glock Triggers = fully vs partially cocked: I examined a couple of my Glocks the other day and found the strikers need to be pulled back an additional ~ 3mm (after hitting the "initial take up" point during the trigger squeeze) before the seer drops and releases the striker. My SIG's strikers set at fully cocked and release with little movement or increased force after the initial trigger take up point. They might both release at around the same 5 pound point - but the higher trigger pressure levels on Glocks seem to require being applied over a noticeably longer distance after initial take up. While I like both Glocks and SIGs a lot, I believe the Glock triggers are a better choice for new shooters and people who don't know what they are doing - which includes most police officers. Can anyone help me if there is something I'm missing ? I want to clarify that I'm personally comfortable with carrying either SIGs or Glocks and I appreciate their lack of "off buttons". ( Off buttons = things that can interfere with intentionally discharging a handgun when it's really needed. )

One of the main reasons I typically (pocket) carry a .357 snub is that I simply trust myself with one more than I do a pistol. I like pistols too, BUT I feel more at ease with a wheel gun. I do carry my pistols, but I notice whenever I do that I'm extra careful and I'm significantly more conscious of the fact that I'm carrying a gun. I like carrying a gun, but I don't necessarily want to be reminded (psychologically) that I'm carrying a gun every single second that I am carrying one. The other thing to take into account is most guys don't even consider carrying or even owning a revolver, like its not even an option. I can't tell you how many times at the range I've told a guy that I typically carry a .357 snub and they look at me like "HUH????" or they'll say something similar to, "Oh yeah, my grandpa has a revolver" and that's where it ends. Granted I'm not a cop, but I've never felt outgunned carrying a snub nor would I if you gave me a revolver. YM is 100% correct in saying that most cops don't go to the range regularly, they simply don't. Most cops seem to care more about being an authority figure than they do about being Doc Holiday.
