Very true with black labs. I had a black lab cross german wire haired that was sweet and loyal growing up, and I'll miss her for the rest of my life. She was so good at comforting me when I was upset. I was born with Charge Syndrome, so having her helped me learn to be more social, since I was always shy and liked to be alone.

It's a shame dogs aren't automatically given body armor when they are selectively bred and trained for the police force when their lives are in just as much danger as the police officers/their handlers. If knights (according to movies/potential historical references) gave armor to their horses then there's no reason we cannot give dogs who work for the police armor as well to protect them.

There is body armor for police dogs. But those depend a lot on donations.

I totally agree! If a dog is going to be expected to risk his life for humans, the least humans can do is to protect that life at all costs. If a police department can't afford the cost of a vest to protect their police dogs, then they shouldn't have them.

Thanks God US is a country with good wellness and it’s not a problem to protect dogs. And not to take them on operations when they have a critical risk to die.

I think it's wrong to send in a dog without some armor (breast plate, flank cover). Also, put a go-pro on the dog to give cops better visual. These dogs cost around $25k to breed, select and test, foster, train, and get ready for the field. The bond they build with their officers is ride or die. For that kind of loyalty these dogs deserve protection from situations that will likely kill or disable them. Unfortunately, most police departments only get canine armor by private donation or fundraising. The average minimal armor costs about $2,500 per dog.

Have you ever looked at what huge price you can aquire a service dog?? Something like $10.000. Not kidding. Maybe there is a waiting list some place, and most people do not even know about service dogs for autism.

I suspect that the boy's reaction to Chloe was a surprise to his mother. They hadn't been looking for a dog at the time so the bond the son created with Chloe might not have happened with a "replacement" dog after she had realized the benefits of having Chloe around. Without ads, the show is only 20 minutes; there may be more to this story than we know but like you, I agree; lots of love and respect for the previous owner.

Oden was a true hero, I'm hoping his family didn't put him down at first sign of a problem or cuz a vet told them too. The stories I see about dogs who truly are happy and want to live, yet so many owners put them down cuz of one vets opinion? Most black Labradors very easy to train, due to just enjoying it. But my black lab was completely easy to control but if a child went near him, he was dangerous.

I think it was the shipping crate?! They also isolate them until the handler can take responsibility. Something to do with liability before they are trained,, can possibly attack? That's all I can gather from YT videos. Not sure tho,, anyone else know? Ya, that small wooden box doesn't look too humane, to me.

Ok so if a child is over stimulated in situations like that it's Autism or ADHS? Maybe the problem is the over stimulation today itself with phonecalls, Television, thousands of Toys and everything at the same time?! This is just not an healthy environment.. My neighbors child is also diagnosed with this. If you give him a good structure and don't let so much senseless and unnatural stimulation flood over him all the time, he's a completely normal child!
