A moron with a GED can pass the police entrance exam and get a badge in half the time it takes to get a barbers license so the job attracts desperate idiots, military washouts and anti social thugs. It's one of the root causes of institutional police corruption.

As Ronin says, it's completely intentional. You are expecting to pass some questionable or flat out illegal laws in the future (or as they're doing now, just enforcing illegal laws), you have a segment of the police force who will refuse to comply. If you pressure them out by making their jobs unbearable and simultaniously making the public hate them, you only get the dregs remaining in the force or applying to join the force. And these dregs will do anything you say as long as they get paid and have a badge to derive authority from. Things are going to get really bad over the next couple of decades.

things the way they are? You mean accountability? 🤡 Wearing body cams at all times too much to ask for? Reap what you sow. Cops abused power, thank God they’re under the microscope. @@rainnmoon114 This was in a small town called the Eastern shore Virginia not too far from the large bridge that connects the Chesapeake Bay. They got my stepmom a while back who is a teacher at the local private school also. She was speeding a couple miles over the speed limit. When she was pulled over, rightfully so. The officer asked if she thought that the kids seat belts for the booster seat was installed correctly. My gullible stepmother mistakenly believe that the officer was just trying to make sure that she knew how to do it properly so she allowed the officer to check the car seat. When he noticed that it wasn't properly installed he wrote her another ticket on top of the speeding violation. She got a healthy dose of reality and why you don't cooperate with police LMAO.

@ They will check school records. GPA is not so important. You will have to pass written tests to be considered and be able to do college level work in the Academy or wash out. The background investigation will be thorough. Some agencies divide the work among different investigators. Others, like mine, had one investigator do a background from start to finish, in which case the investigator will know more about you than your mother.

Back in 2018 I got declined by Dallas PD despite having military experience a college degree, and a squeeky clean background record as well as zero drug history. The reason was I reported I gave away pain pills that I didn't want to take to my barracks buddy after getting my wisdom teeth pulled. It wasn't the fact I gave them away it was because I reported it was around 3 and it turned out to be around 9. Police is a high demand job. It should be advertised as that and recruitet like that too. Where i live, you need as qualification for application, service in the military(or similar for females), learned a different trade with a certified diploma, fitness test and of course a clean slate. And then you will go in training for at least 2 years and when you dont pass certain tests on the way, you go home. It limit the suply for fresh recruits and cost alot in the progress. But in the end you have somebody on duty who knows what he/she is doing.

This dude in my platoon from boot camp(Parris Island) got in on 2 plus waivers, including one for felony assault. He was just a banger from the bronx, and tried to fight the DI one day like he’s back in the hood. The Marine Corps was so desperate for bodies, that this one kid name Lucas spent roughly 30 days on light duty….and was still awarded his EGA. For instructional purposes only; boot camp was roughly 65 training days, and I spent 2 training days on light duty. This one kid was from St. Louis, on the eastern side of the Mississippi river, had been arrested for DUI and assault. I felt out of place when we got to talking one day in 2nd phase; I had never been arrested, never been in trouble, never did drugs….I was the odd man out. A week later the department got hemmed up, with officers writing fake tickets and shit. Like a dozen officers lost their peace officer licenses. I was glad, I didn’t get selected with that department lol. @@TheEvilCheesecake my dearest friend, I believe you mistaken my point. I am only saying that the police’s old practices for hiring, I don’t know their current policy, excluded people who were more exceptional than some police officers I know now. The policy practices of refusing to hire someone with say a record, even though the record was more than 7 years old, and the person legit turn their life around, are a hinderance to hiring good police officers. I’m not saying hire everyone with a criminal record. I’m saying allow the policies to be flexible when there’s an obviously good candidate to be a police officer. Again, I’m not saying take anyone with a record, there are ways to qualify individuals.

This is a 100% true story. I worked with a guy some years back during the time McDonald's was getting on the free wireless internet train. He comes into work one evening clearly agitated. I ask "What's wrong?". He responds with his own question. "What's the sign a McDonald's that says "WiFi is here." mean? (He pronouces WiFi as wiffy). I explain it all to him only to find out that he had just come from the drive thru and ordered a "wiffy with cheese". The girl refused his order because she thought it was some kind of prank. He then goes inside and tries to straighten everything out and the entire McDonald's workforce start laughing hysterically. He storms out and comes straight to work, where I let him in on the joke. The point of this story is that less than a week after this gem occurred, he was hired by our local PD.

Its the only interview where I paused to run a Triple i to see if he was wanted or what else was on his record. Add: he was in several "reformatory schools" and didn't want to tell us. As a Lt one of my secondary duties was helping Training do recruit interviews. It was actually kind of fun. Got to met and hire some great officers and watch them move up in the PD. On the flip side which is the memorable side, I got to protect the PD and citizens from some truly bizarre, weird, perverted morons. One loser thought we'd become buddies so he relaxed and I laughed along with his confessions to sexually harassing a female employee at his state agency (non LE). You can't make this stuff up!
