When freezing left over bait it must have saltwater in the bag, it really helps the bait after thawing from being so mushy and soft. I netted a 5gl bucket of greenies at the Skyway last week and brought home 1.5gls of saltwater to help preserve my bait and it works like a champ.

That is definitely a look down ( sometimes called a moonfish which is actually very similar). Good eats but you would need a few to make a meal. Filet it from the lateral line to the shoulder. Similar to pompano.

Hey that look down would be worth some big money at the aquarium store , live .

Correct, that area closed the beginning of August. Posted with several signs and outlined with red paint. Probably the excitement / anticipation of catching fish made him gloss over the sighs. I have made that same mistake at the same spot if I am being totally honest.

I urge anyone fishing the Gulf from bridges or piers to take the free Skyway Educational course online about Pelicans. Besides the fact you need it to fish out at the Skyway Nov 15th-March 15th ,it teaches what to do and not to do when fishing around pelicans and in the event of bird hooking/entaglements . Its an all too common occurrence and worth knowing
@kenny.g7272 ай бұрын
And I believe the free Skyway educational course is a requirement to fish out at the Skyway year round. Multihook use (sabikis,etc) are banned 11-15 thru 3-15 I printed a copy to show at the entrance when I got there and the lady said she didn't need to see it but if the FWC asks for it then you have to have proof of taking and passing it 👍 They don't ask for proof to get on the pier

@captainconstitution42382 ай бұрын
@@2Cool4RyanI was fishing last night and this guy kept asking me about Snapper size limits. He caught a Mangrove Snapper (about 7-8") He asked how big they had to be. I told him 10". He says, "Oh good. He 10," and threw him in his cooler. I thought, why ask if you're not going to even measure it, and you're going to keep it despite it being too small? I bit my tongue and kept fishing. Then he pulls in a Lane Snapper. He again asks how big they need to be. I told him, "those only need to be 8 inches, but he looks about 6 inches. You should measure it." He says, "Oh no, he 8 inches all day!" Angry, I said, "you should really measure it." He ignored me, so I got up and walked away. The moral of this story is that about 45 minutes later FWC came by and searched his cooler bag. They wrote him 2 $500 tickets for both undersized Snapper, and a $1000 ticket for keeping a Porkfish. Porkfish can only be kept live for an aquarium. The officer told him he could have been arrested for the Porkfish, but instead got a hefty fine. 💰🐟💶
