IMO they should apply the red tail size limit to barred perch as well. It’s so rare that we get big ones in the Bay Area.
@fishermanally3 жыл бұрын
They said North of San Francisco towards British Columbia are where the biggest Surfperch are. Maybe the reason DFG didn't apply the size limit on Barred is because they mature early as 1 year of age and ready to spawn, whereas Redtail mature at 2.5 years before they spawn. IMO i think us anglers must only take what we need legally and released the smaller size. Thanks for watching and i think you made a good statement.

Fine spot you have there. Roast gold sand. I find it challenging to do fishing with that wave, but awesome catch. Good were released

You're right, it is challenging when waves are within seconds apart, not to mention very dangerous. I think its always good to take a friend with you. Thanks for watching.

In LA and Orange Co, I've seen family groups keep 8in fish. Many times, makes you feel bad!
@fishermanally3 жыл бұрын
Well in my opinion, they are not breaking any rules if they are catching and keeping Barred, shiners, Calico etc... that are no size limit rules. However if they are keeping 8 inches REDTAIL surfperch, i would really feel sad because they are breaking the DFG regulations of 10 1/2 size limit for reds. Thanks for watching.

Great video, awesome day! Every time I head to that beach, all I get are smelt, smelt, smelt! I use grubs, camo sand worms and soft shells, but nothing bites but smelt! Any extra tips to lead to more perch and less smelt?
@fishermanally3 жыл бұрын
Where did you fish? what beach? When i go fishing tides are crucial factors, Incoming tides is my preferred time to go. If i go to a new beach i go on a lowest tide possible to scout the area for structures. Rod, reel, hooks, main line, leader and bait are the other to consider. For perch, i use lite rod with 20# braid line, 20# mono 4ft leader, long shank No.2 beak hook and 1 1/2 inches paddle tail grubs. Hope this help. Tight lines.

You ever use Big Hammer perch grubs there? Any luck if so?
@fishermanally3 жыл бұрын
Not in this particular beach, But in Montara beach i did. I caught some Barred perch, but the Paddle tail seems to work better IMO. But you can definitely try them, use the Motor oil Christmas grubs. Thanks for watching.

How do you keep the perch fresh? Do you bleed them or just throw them in a bag?
@fishermanally3 жыл бұрын
Most of the time before i bag them, i pinch the head hard enough to kill it instantly or bled them by pulling the gills. Thanks for watching.

So hard to tell diff between calico and red tail
@fishermanally3 жыл бұрын
The way i differentiate between the two species are their Dorsal fins. Calico dorsal fins doesn't have that pointy fin or Sailing fin i call it. Hope this help. Thanks for watching.

Always like your videos FisherManAlly, i like the way you show your entrance to the beach or parking lot etc. It helps if you're going there and have not been there before. Question: with self pay can you go in early say at 7am put your money in the box and park or was the gate closed till 8am?
@fishermanally3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad i was able to help. Unfortunately the parking gate opens at 0800 and thats the only time you can park your vehicle inside, if the parking attendant not in site, the paper envelope is what you need, Envelope is next to the booth. Bring exact change. Thanks for watching. Tight lines.

Wow! What a great time fishing. Does that egg sinker wear out your braid line?
@fishermanally3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. What i normally do is checked about 3 ft of that braid before re-inserting the egg sinker for my next trip. If the braid starting to show weakness i cut enough braid where the good line starts. Thanks for pointing that out my friend. Thank you for watching.
